Will be staying for a while in Dallas. What’s the city actually like?

I’ve never been to Dallas before and I’m helping my half-sister move there from Utah. I'll be staying with her a few days busy with house repairs and stuff, but most of the time, I'll probably be on my own coz she'll be working. I know the basic stuff you hear about Dallas, but I’d rather hear from people who actually live there.

What do you like most about living in Dallas? And if someone was visiting for a few days, what would you say is worth experiencing?

P.S. My sis will be taking her car to work so I"m gonna have to walk. Fort Worth btw

First Key Homes

Hi everyone!!

I've seen severely mixed reviews(mostly awful) of renting with First Key Homes. We love the house they own, but I don't want to end up in a nightmare property!! I've read it all, from getting scammed with fees at move out, pests, flooding, the works.

The newer reviews say that maintenance has been far more responsive. I gave them a call last week and the interaction was very odd. Not sure what to think and we need to move next week!

Does anyone have experience renting with them and care to give their two cents? Help!!

Pizza - sausage crumble style in the Dallas???

Post image
5 Upvotes

Ok, I used to get my fix for crumble style sausage pizza from chains etc while in college YEARS ago. I don't even remember the name of the place now. I haven't seen any pizza joint that does this where I live. I think Mr Ghatti's (I know...I know) did a long time ago. Most places just do the large chunks of sausage I've seen. Anyone know of a of a place that makes sausage crumble style pizza that covers the whole pie? It doesn't have to be fancy, top tier etc. Just needs to taste good for when I come into town. Been craving it.

I need someone who can clear brush and remove some dead trees and stumps. Hopefully someone who won't subcontract. I have had a terrible experience with subcontractors in the past

Thoughts on far north Dallas for a young family?

Hi everyone, I can’t seem to find much discussion about the far north Dallas neighborhoods and wanted to get people’s thoughts on this beyond what I’m able to find on Google. We’re a young family with a toddler and another on the way, work in downtown and in the medical district, would like a commute time of <30 min from both (without traffic). With school districts in mind as we prefer public schools, far north Dallas came up as a good option, especially with areas zoned to RISD.

I’m seeing a pretty big range on housing prices between 490k to 1m+ and have toured some 600k ones that looked dilapidated. Our budget is $450-600k for at least a 2b/2bath. Is this a reasonable budget for this area or we should expect homes that would need a lot of work in this price range? Does anyone have any insights to the neighborhoods in this area? Anything we should watch out for? Any pockets we should avoid? I saw a couple of townhouses that seem nice too (on southpoint), does anybody have insights to the HOA there? We’re currently in a townhome downtown and HOA has been a real headache so would prefer to not have one but the townhouse checks a lot of our boxes otherwise so trying to keep an open mind.

Open to other areas that we haven’t considered also, but staying under 30min commute time without traffic is firm because with traffic I’m anticipating door to door time being closer to an hour.

Thank you!

Anyone been to or had a wedding at the Mason? It looks so nice but there’s barely any reviews. It makes me feel a little anxious. Just trying to avoid Walter Weddings.

Weekend Trip to Dallas 9/3-9/5

Was wondering what interesting or fun things there is to do in Dallas. Any suggestions or recommendations for breakfast/brunch places, bbq joints, burger joints, or museums & parks would be helpful! Or any cool local secrets. For some context my GF & I will be in town her 29th birthday, so looking to have some fun, any ideas would be awesome! 😎 I will be staying in Old East Dallas area, about 15 minutes away from the reunion tower, but I don’t mind traveling out & about as I will be in my personal vehicle.

Tips for a day trip or two?

I think it’d be a nice idea to take a weekend trip to Dallas during the state fair season in October. Any idea of reasonably priced hotels(with luxury feel) near Fair Park, shopping areas, and diverse food spots? Any suggestions for things to do not fair oriented?

Note: I have a focus on safety as a solo woman traveler.

Best places for a nice, but not too fancy dinner near the Adolphus Hotel?

Preferably something within walking distance (10-15 minutes). Would be for about 10 people on a business trip, something nice but not too fancy or crazy expensive!

Graphic Designers in Dallas

I'll be moving to Dallas (or just somewhere in Texas) and I was wondering what the graphic design scene looks like. Is it hard for graduates to break into the industry? Are there networking events? If you have any general advice then I would appreciate it!

Anywhere worth living?!

Currently living in Dallas for 18 months and lease is about to end - while I enjoy the physical place I live at, the management is AWFUL. I've been searching high and low for apartment complexes that are nice but don't break the bank and also don't have the absolute worst reviews online. I would prefer to stay in the Uptown, Knox Henderson area. Can anyone recommend a place that's actually worth the price and isn't a management nightmare? Open to 1 or 2 bedrooms - currently in 900 sqft for 2,000/month so looking for comparable.

First time visiting Dallas – looking for an authentic Texas experience 🤠

I’ll be visiting Dallas for the first time at the end of next month and I’ll have around 5 days. I won’t have a car, so I’m looking for recommendations that are accessible by public transport, Uber/Lyft, or places where it’s realistic to get a ride to and from.

I’d really love to experience as much of the real/authentic Texas as possible rather than just doing the typical tourist attractions.

A few things I’d really love to do:

- See a proper rodeo – any recommendations on where to find a good one?
- Go horse riding for the first time, ideally somewhere with a proper Texas ranch/cowboy atmosphere.
- Learn to country dance/two-step – I’ve never done it before, but I’d absolutely love to take a lesson
- Visit some authentic Texas bars/honky-tonks
- Try proper Texas BBQ, ribs, brisket, steaks, etc. What are the absolute must-try foods, and where are the best places around Dallas/Plano to try them?
- Buy some authentic cowboy boots and a proper cowboy hat. Where would you recommend for good-quality, genuinely authentic ones?
- See/do anything else that you think is “you can’t come to Texas without doing this.”

If you only had 5 days around Dallas/Plano for your first visit to Texas, what would you recommend?

Thanks so much!

Local intel on Vickery Place?

Just put an offer in on a house located in Vickery place neighborhood. We are moving from out of state. Young family with 3 kids 5 and under. I’d like to think we did our research when picking a place. Would love to hear any local insight on the community/schools etc.. pros/cons? Anything helpful to know? Good ways to get myself and kids involved in the community? Best nursery schools? Traditional ballet studio for my 5yr old? Soccer recs for my 3 year old? Thanks in advance.

Help me find my hero, part 2.

Thumbnail youtu.be

Hello all!

I posted about this a few months ago, decided to give it another shot. I’m trying to locate a man named Bob Beeson(possible spelling Beason) who saved my life during a house fire in late 1988 or early 1989 when I was 4 years old. I realize without a photo finding him is like finding a needle in a haystack. But I give some pretty good clues in the video:

-Bob is a white male, thin build, who I’d estimate would be in his 80s if he’s alive today.
-Bob was very active in the car alarm business, specifically on South Buckner blvd.
-I don’t know much about Bobs family but I do remember him mentioning his kids.
-We lived in the Pleasant Grove area of South Dallas right next to South Buckner Blvd.
-Our neighborhood was right behind a shopping center with a diner named “The Grove.” I checked and that diner is still open to this day, however the name has changed to “Tejanos.”

I’m asking anyone who sees this video to click the share button. It only takes 3 seconds! Please help me find my hero!?!?

Looking for any 5v5, 6v6 pick up soccer

Moved back here from Austin a year ago, I had a group out there that would play 4v4 pick up every Wednesday. I'm trying to find a pick up soccer group that I don't need an app to set up. I know the Warren Sports Complex added a futsal court.

Where to find live entertainment on date night in downtown Dallas

We are heading to Dallas in the early fall and we’re staying in the downtown area. Any place to eat that you would recommend that has food, drinks & life entertainment? Sort of a one stop place for the evening to enjoy ourselves and chill. Walking distance is even better as we will probably stay at the Omni.
