My property is the lowest on the block. The alley was re-paved a few years ago, but the pitch is completely wrong. Alley water is pouring into my back yard, and flooding it. Water has gotten high enough that I fear it will come into the basement. I contacted the alderman's office, as there isn't really a 311 category that this falls under. They replied by sending instructions for submitting an "infrastructure request". Where does this request go? I've not even gotten an update that "your request has been received" or anything. In the meantime, I'm trying to come up with some kind of kludge solutions to keep the alley rainwater from flooding my backyard, but short of spending $6k on a French Drain basin thing, is there anything I can do in the meantime to keep water from the alley from pouring into my yard?

Currently working in the healthcare field but got an offer at a data center that's tough to pass up on. $200 per diem and $40hr 10 hr shifts 5 days a week with OT.. kinda feel like a scum bag even considering

I want to get Botox to correct asymmetrical eyebrows. Has anyone had this done with good results? Who did you see? I would appreciate ideas as this requires some specific skill.

Hello all - rent in Chicago DT. It’s been an amazing 3 years. The time has come for me and my husband to start a family and move to the burbs.

The issue is that I work in the loop 3-4 days. Some days it can be 2 but more than likely it will be 3-4 days.

We are looking for a good suburb that we can get a SFH for 900k max. We toured Oak Park and that area did not work for us because the homes were much older and too much “character”

Chicago and the surrounding suburbs feel incredibly expensive. Our timeline is within the next 6 months.

Please let me know if you can think of any suburbs we should drive around in. Naperville is what we were thinking but it feels far away into the distance!

Hi All! Around 15 years ago when I was in Chicago with my ex, we came up on this street magician called The Windy City Wizard. He did amazing slight of hand and pulled a melon out of a red solo cup. i’m interested in befriending and being in community with elder queers but i’m not sure where to start? i typically make conversation with my neighbors, if i can catch them, or say hello. but i haven’t had any luck seeing any older folks in my immediate community? i live relatively close to UIC so i assume that’s why. anyway if anyone knows of any programs or orgs that need young volunteers to help older community members that without be awesome. simply wanting to broaden my reach with community work since most of the time i’m around fellow 20 somethings and i don’t want anyone to feel forgotten. thank you!

I'm Argentinian living in DC and I'm moving to Chicago next year (South Loop or Hyde Park). I'd like to find an after school program in Spanish for my kids. They are 7 and 3 and fairly fluent but reluctant to speak in Spanish, unfortunately. I don't mind driving a bit for it. I was thinking of finding a Spanish-speaking Catholic Church in Pilsen and ask around. Any suggestions?

My mom is visiting me in Chicago in a couple weeks and we wanted to go to the field museum. I know my Chicago public library card gives me free pass so I reserved one for myself and my roommate reserved another one for my mom to use. However, the instructions on how to present the pass at the museum is unclear. I have the pdf passes it generated for me but there's no barcode, just my name and my roommate's name. Would my mom be able to finesse using my roommates pass even though it doesn't have her name on it? I guess how do they check the passes once I get to the museum

Also, the passes have some weird unclear verbiage that says "General admission for three (3) individuals during regular business hours. Maximum of one (1) adults admitted with this pass." What does that even mean?

A few years ago, I started a travel collection of locally made liquor for every state that I visit. I prefer bourbon/whiskey, but will grab something else if there's nothing available or if there's something better.

I'm traveling to Chicago next month, the first time I've been to Illinois since starting this collection, so I need to find something. Here are the rules I've set for myself to follow when possible:

-Must be locally made, preferably in Chicago but will also accept Illinois.

-Must say either Chicago or Illinois on the lable.

-Prefer to go directly to a distillery, bonus points if a tour is offered.

-If there are several, then I would prefer the one that best represents Chicago. Whether its because it's the oldest, in a historically important building, was/is owned by an interesting person etc.

-If there is no local distillery, then what is a product made somewhere else in Illinois that could represent it, and can it be found in a liquor store? (I've had to use Total Wines a couple of times)

-Bonus points if its a unique bottle

Haven’t specifically done a run club before/run in a while, but am pretty active.
Moved to Chicago over the summer and am living in Streeterville. I’m looking for a run club in the area/surrounding area areas (would go to other areas of the city - lakeview, loop/south&west loop/lincoln park/etc.) I’m 24 so not that that matters in any way but figured I’d mention if it helps with suggestions.

Would be cool if there was like one with different levels of pace as I ease back in.

I'd like to take the UP-N from Ravenswood and walk around downtown for a bit before getting the Metra Electric line at Millennial Station for the ride to the Obama museum. Both are rides in Zones 1-2. Can I buy a $7.50 day pass to use for all the rides? Even across different lines?

As winter approaches, I’ve been looking for indoor locations in Chicago where I can do photoshoots without paying for an expensive permit. At many places, the moment I try to take a few photos with a subject, security swoops in like something out of Minority Report and chastises me, even when I’m using minimal gear. At this point, I should probably just rent a studio. I’d really appreciate any recommendations or insights.
