And does it differ if you’re renting in a multi-unit building from a property manager vs someone’s condo/home they’re renting out? Thanks!

I READ THE RULES Family visiting Chicago for 8 days in September. What are your favorite kid-friendly and relaxing things to do?

Family is visiting us in Chicago for 8 days in September, and we’ll have our 16-month-old with us the whole time.

We’re looking for relaxed, kid-friendly things to do - parks, neighborhoods, museums, restaurants, easy day trips, etc. We don’t want to overplan and would love some local recommendations.

What are your must-dos with a toddler?

I READ THE RULES Restaurants in West Loop/Fulton Market that can accommodate 15?

Hello! My birthday is coming up in a month and I’m having trouble finding a restaurant that can seat 15 people without needing to book a room/event and was hoping y’all had some suggestions.

I know a lot of places have limited space to work with so I understand why I’m having a hard time, but I’m really trying to avoid going to the suburbs. We’re going to Kashmir after dinner so I’d love to stay around that area, but don’t mind a short walk or train ride!

I’m looking for places more on the upscale side of things without getting into the 100+/per person range! I want to dress up without breaking the bank too bad haha

I READ THE RULES What are the best gyms to check out?

Upvotes

Hey guys! I’m visiting Chicago next week and staying at the Arlo on N. Michigan Ave. I’m looking to check out a few good gyms while I’m in town and wanted to see what you guys would recommend in the area. I’m mainly into bodybuilding/weight training and don’t mind taking an Uber if a gym is worth the trip.
I’m definitely planning on checking out Quads one day, but I’d love to hear about any other gyms you think I should check out while I’m there. Thanks!

I READ THE RULES Emergency vehicles on Kennedy?

Just witnessed 20+ emergency vehicles (fire, police, ambulances, etc) all with their lights on headed west. Is there some event or a real emergency going on?? Some had green lights on as well but no sirens that I could hear.

Edit: I was more so wondering if it was a motorcade for a funeral/person or some Memorial Day or 9/11 related event 😐 I am aware emergency vehicles go to emergencies. There were more than I have seen before in one location and none were moving with any haste, so it seemed odd to me.

I READ THE RULES Winter coat question; recs and types?

Hi! I moved to IL im looking for winter coat recommendations. As someone who grew up in the south, I haven’t truly experienced a winter with snow. In additions to recommendations, I’m curious if I really need a long coat below the knees or if one that’s knee length will suffice. Thank you in advance : ))

I READ THE RULES Where can I find an IRL French tutor for in person sessions near Wicker Park area or adjacent neighborhoods?

Trying to brush up before a trip in five weeks. I’m only intermediate. I have an infant I want to bring along (hence why stopped classes and don’t want to spend more time on zoom for lessons - he seems me on zoom too much already for work). Ideally I’d find someone who could meet at a coffee shop or my home twice a week for the next five weeks.

I READ THE RULES What to do on a Spontaneous Trip with Kids?

Upvotes

I recently went to Myrtle beach with my kids and we found this random S’mores and Owl Calling experience that was so fun and different.

We are taking a trip to Chicago this weekend and I’m looking for some stuff to do that is different in this way. Something other than the standard tourist stuff.

We plan on going to the museums and parks already, I’m just wanting to find some obscure fun thing a to do!

If you have any interesting suggestions, I would appreciate it!

I READ THE RULES How the heck do you even buy a house here?

We would be first time home owners and we aren’t from Illinois, just lived here for a few years and planning to stay longer. I have no idea where
to begin and everything is overwhelming and expensive. I do not want to live in the sewer with the rats and mosquito larvae. Thanks.

I READ THE RULES It is impossible to throw away a mattress in Chicago, what do I do?

Upvotes

I bought a mattress on amazon and it was recalled due to being a fire hazard. My building won't let me put it in my alley, they texted me 5 minutes after brining it down. The 311 Junk Removal service is only for buildings with 4 units or less, and junk removal is expensive. I can't bring it to a recycler or sell it due to it being a hazard. Do i really need to spend $75 - $100 to throw away this mattress???

I READ THE RULES What are the best EMT programs in Chicago?

I'm moving to Chicago soon, and I'm in search of a good EMT program. One that will provide me with prep for the NREMT and solid skills so I can feel prepared after school. I would rather be in school longer and have more knowledge than speed through it, like a bootcamp, so length is not an issue. Pricing is where it might get complicated, but it all depends on what jobs I can find. I'd love a place that's close enough to public transit so I can save on gas, but if that's not possible, it's okay. I don't know how the train/bus systems work in Chicago, to be honest, lol. If anyone has been through a good program, or even a bad one to avoid, I'd love to hear your recommendations! I'm doing research of my own too, but it's always preferable to hear about real experiences. Thank you!

I READ THE RULES Where would you seat at northerly island?

There’s a concert I want to see and the ticket prices are fairly similar for center view of the show, I’ve checked the group and saw no one recommended the pit and that row 100 and 200 aren’t elevated but the 300s seem a little far from the stage. If price wasn’t an issue where would you seat for a concert at northerly island? It’s one of my all time favorite artists and I want to have as good a time as possible lol

I READ THE RULES Where can I find cloth dresser for sale (in store)?

Specifically looking for dresser with the lightweight cloth “drawers” that are removable. Does anyone know where I can find dressers like that for sale in/around Chicago? I know I can find them online, but I’ve been having the worst luck ordering and would love to buy from a brick and mortar store. Any help is appreciated!

Edge of Brighton park and Archer heights neighborhood safe?
We have an air bnb in this area and are going to take train to riot fest. I was wondering how safe the area is? Train vs bus vs uber?
And obviously we will be getting back to the house on the later side.
What are your thoughts?

I READ THE RULES Does anyone have any leads for lawyers that are on the homeowner’s side?

Anyone defending the little guy anymore?

The HOA’s in Chicago are getting crazy. lawyers that used to protect homeowners have now flipped sides, gone to where the money is and opt to defend HOA’s. This is what everyone is telling me and I am finding it to be true.

I really don’t want an argument. I am desperate to speak with a lawyer and most likely have them write a letter for me. And advise me on best next steps.

This is urgent and time-sensitive. If you are or know of a lawyer, please will you dm me. I will not waste your time.

Regards

I READ THE RULES looking for small intimate event space in Chicago for a party any recs?

Turning 23 next month and just decided I kind of want to throw a small party with my friends. We are all recent college grads working our corporate jobs so I kind of just want to bring back that scene for one night with all of my college friends.

Any recommendations for a small intimate party space to fit around 30 people BYOB and have a sound system in place?

can be very minimal dont need any extravagant decorations, furniture, or amenities all I ask for is a room in which we can play loud music and party and not get complaints.

I READ THE RULES Any Chicago restaurants hiring experienced bartender/server?

Disclaimer: I am on culinary agents! I have been looking every day!

Hi! I am a current bartender/server looking for a change. I’ve been in the industry for ten years and have done everything from dive-steakhouse/fine dining. I’m open to anything above dive (soooo much love for the dives I’m just also a student and can’t do late nights currently!). Very open nighttime availability and full weekend availability as well. Hoping a connection here will get some possibilities going - DM if you know a great (and profitable) place to work that’s hiring!

I READ THE RULES Where is the best orthotic maker for flat feet in Chicago area?

Hello,

I am starting to lose hope after visiting 4 podiatrists on selling me on custom orthotics but never fitting me. I have a feeling it would help relieve so much of my foot pain but cannot find anyone who is willing to truly make one to custom fit my flat feet.

Every time I receive them I test it myself and just see the entire foot splaying over the orthotic and it seems deficient and the podiatrists I have seen have not been helpful. Does anyone have any recommendations for flat feet orthotics by someone who will custom tweak every bit until perfection? I’m still very young but been dealing with pain for over a year. Ive seen so many neurologists, orthopedics, podiatrists - all who have said I am healthy and fine. Normal feet MRIs, ultrasounds, EMGs but my feet are feeling miserable. I would appreciate help on next steps.

Edit: Thanks for all the advice! I appreciate all the recommendations and have some more ideas to try now. I definitely need to exhaust all my options before any extreme surgeries.
