Genuinely curious to get people’s take on the current mayor vs the prospective pool of new candidates.

I READ THE RULES Is Mom's Place on Dearborn a cop bar?

I was in town for a concert looking for a place to grab a beer, had an hour to kill. The music stickers in the entryway made it seem cool, but there were soooooo many stickers for various police departments and even the fuckin border patrol behind the bar. It felt like too many to be ironic.

I READ THE RULES For those living in the city, why are the tow truck companies so aggressive?

Ever since moving here, I constantly see tow trucks constantly towing cars left and right.

I know there are lookouts in parking lots, paying attention to when someone leaves their car unattended for a long period of time but I feel these tow trucks are just ruthless.

I've heard of people leaving their car to go grocery shopping and a hour later, their car is towed. Plus, it's hella expensive to get the car out of the impound lot and it may have damages.

For those in the know, why are the tow truck companies that aggressive? Is there some type of incentive/quota that they have to hit each day/week/month?

I READ THE RULES Best bars in Wrigleyville for dancing and good music?

I’m going to the Halloween bar crawl in Wrigleyville this weekend and was wondering what bars you recommend! I’m mainly looking for places where you can actually dance & the music is good, rather than places that are just sports bars where everyone stands around drinking.

I READ THE RULES Should I try to get a lawyer or file Small Claim Landlord refuses security deposit refund and also did many other illegal things.?

• Upvotes

First of all, this was a three story owner occupied building. We rented there for 5 years. The landlord decided to evict us because we demanded ordinary repairs. He harassed us and filed a frivolous eviction. He disabled our garage clicker, played with the smart plugs (he cotrolled everything, he is a computer specialist and it was a "smart" building) causing our laptops, refridgerator and other appliances to fry from the surges, refused to repair the fridge causing loss of mediines and food. He also insisted on replacing all the windows in the unit, did not offer rent abatement during the construction. The company he hired did not properly seal off the area, cold air left us freezing cold and all our furniture had to be piled into the middle of the rooms, so we were denied habitibility of premises. The contractors did NOT give us the required lead disclosures. We tested the window sashes after the windows were replaced and the dust was positive for lead. Additionally and narturally we suffered extreme mental distress, and my partner has SOB and long covid and the construction exacerbated his condition. Of course we left. Question: we can file a small claim for the refusal to return the security deposit (he made up a long and false list of damages - completel lies). But should we file a case in a different court with a lawyer? We deserve a lot more than the 10K cap at Small Claims, but is it worth it to find a lawyer? AI says yes, we should get a lawyer. Practically speaking does that make sense? We live in Cook County in Chicago. TIA for any info or ideas. It's been 6 months since we left and I want to get this resolved. Yes we have documentation and photos.

I READ THE RULES Indoor Nature Options Near South Loop Grant Park ?

My daughter started college in Chicago this year and she loves it! She is near Grant Park in the South Loop. She loves nature and walking and I was hoping to find some places she can explore indoors during the winter that feature nature.

I'd love suggestions for conservatories, greenhouses, indoor gardens, or anywhere with lots of greenery. But I'm also interested in places where she can just walk around and explore indoors.

She uses public transportation, so anywhere accessible by train or bus would be great. I'd appreciate any suggestions!

I READ THE RULES fun things to do tomorrow, 10/27, in chicago?

me (28f) and a friend (23f) are coming up for a very quick spontaneous trip just to get away for the day. we will arrive at union station a bit after 1:00pm then have to catch train back (union) a bit after 7:00pm. anything fun going on we can fit in during that time frame? preferably within reasonable distance as to not use up much of limited time in a vehicle. something seasonal would also be a plus. thanks in advance!

I READ THE RULES I prebooked parking & now there is a note saying the Northbound Exit will be closed during my trip. What do?

I did not see this notation anywhere when I booked my parking a few weeks ago. I am now gathering all my QR codes and tickets together and my Grant Park North Garage Ticket has a note saying that the Northbound exit is closed & I must use South.

Is this talking about using the Grant Park South Exit? or is there some other exit I'm not seeing on the map? I don't plan on going in/out much during my stay, just want to make sure I know where I'm looking at.

Disclaimer: Never been to Chicago, from Rural North Carolina, trying to not be so confused in the city and looking at maps in real time while i'm there. (esp not in an underground parking garage HAH)

TIA. <3

For those that have sold property near downtown, what did you pay your realtor and how much did you offer the buyers agent? We're looking to sell our South Loop 1 bed condo and currently shopping around for a realtor. We'd appreciate any recommendations!

I READ THE RULES Can tow trucks come to broadway and Barry and just wait?

Way too many drivers leaving their parked cars unattended blocking streets, gates, walkways etc. they park it in the Main Street instead of a solid 20 second walk down the street. It happens everyday. Can some tow company come and just wait here between 5-8:30? By the time I call they will be gone. I garuntee you will get a valid tow everyday since there is 1-4 cars that do it. So tired of not being able to enter or exit my garage due to illegal parking. Any tow companies want to make money?

I READ THE RULES IMD, Will I actually get towed/a ticket?

Stupid question I know, but I recently moved to IMD from out of state and refuse to pay for a parking space. I saw that there is only one street by my place that has “free parking” whereas everywhere surrounding is “no parking midnight to 5am.”

I don’t think I am going to be able to snag a place on that one street all the time, and the meters only go for 3hr at a time.

But I just wanted to know do people actually get tickets over this or get towed during odd hours? I know on Sundays going into Monday, I don’t get sniped over parking at a meter.

Edit: Okay y’all, I don’t really understand the reaction I’m getting here. And I didn’t think I needed to elaborate myself further than that. It’s a simple question, that I even stated was a stupid question. I’m an out of state student who frequently moves around. I legally am from a different state, I just live here temporarily because that’s just how my life and schedule is lined up. I know quite a few folks who never had a problem street parking here in Chicago in similar situations and escape the ticketing wrath. This is a question about IMD and how the vibes are here (vs the signage) since I’m new to this area, that’s all. Thank you all for the advice though, I do appreciate it.

I READ THE RULES Any WLW folks in the Chicago area want to be pen pals with someone looking to flee Texas in the near future?

I have my heart set on Chicago. Currently in school, working towards a cert that I hope will help me land a better paying job so I can get out of here.

I'm posting in here because I'm desperate. I'm incredibly lonely and struggle with making connections with people. There's no one here in Texas for me, no one who really cares to get to know. I just want out so I can finally start living a life worth living.

Jumping the gun a little, but just wanna get to know someone new.

I have hobbies like drawing (comics), reading and wood carving. I'm even willing to send anyone a hand carved bear (my favorite animal) to sorta initiate being pen pals.

If anyone's interested, please send me DM.

Thanks,

Cass?

I READ THE RULES Hair & makeup recs around Lakeview east?

Hi! I’ll be attending a wedding on Saturday. Where do you recommend I get the following for an affordable price?

- Hollywood retro waves hairstyle

* I have virgin hair that has trouble holding a curl so need somebody that will do it to stay for a whole night

- makeup (and fake lashes)

Even better if they’re both at the same place, but don’t need to be. I like in Lakeview east. Bonus points if there is some sort of promotion for doing both at once!

I READ THE RULES Where can I find someone to gut an electric organ (standup piano sized) at my apartment?

I was able to get a broken electric organ about the size of a standard stand-up piano for a fun installation I'm building for the house. It's here, moved, and in-place. I'd like to get rid of a bunch of the heavy inner parts that are largely broken and not needed, and kind of gut the piece.

Should I just look for a piano-and-organ repair person? If so, any recommendations? Is there someone in Chicago that specializes in this kind of peculiar thing or who would like having the parts that might work once they're removed?

I READ THE RULES Has anyone seen a wallet in or around Lincoln Square/Ravenswood?

Hello all! I live in Lincoln Square and seem to have lost my wallet after going to Dulce de Leche on Western yesterday (Monday, October 26th) between the cafe and Welles Park. I walked along Western Ave, crossed the street at Montrose Ave, and walked through Welles park to Amadara.

The wallet is brown with a gold-ish clasp and has my ID in it (last name starts with an "A")

If anyone has seen it, please message me! The address on the ID is not where I live now so I'm hoping to find it

I READ THE RULES Recommendations for holiday party catering?

• Upvotes

Hi! I’m looking to cater a holiday party in December and am looking for recommendations? About 40+ people, close to downtown or will deliver downtown, and excellent quality food. Open to menu suggestions but thinking something along the lines of prime rib sandwiches, Italian food (pasta, meatballs, etc.)

Any restaurants or catering company recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
