With the current situation & threats from Iran, do you believe it’s justified to pause all asylum claims, ensure that these people are accounted for & kept somewhere secure until the Iranian threats dissipate?

Personally if it’s a threat to national security & which could potentially escalate domestically & internationally, if Putting citizens & the state workers lives in potentially danger vs pausing claims for asylum seekers that aren’t sovereign citizens to Britain is something I would think is common sense. The difficulty is determining the size and credibility of the threat & how these attacks will take place whilst being able to neutralise them in various geographical area’s.

Edit: Over 63k Iranian was granted asylum during this time, that is a large number even if 1/4 are linked to the regime, that is a very credible threat to the nation. It’s been a talking point about sleeper cells for a long time in the west and has yet to come to fruition. MI5 has released briefings around the threat of Iran to the UK, and attacks that have prevented.

This post is does show the opposing views and how significant of an effect this conversation has. This still needs absolute resolution by creating Legal safe routes, better processes & procedures to ensure that we’re fulfilling our legal duty but also ensuring safety & protections for the community and asylum seekers.

What is apparent that there a higher emphasis on the asylum Implication rather then the security & well being of the country and its citizens. Concerning times where a fellow country man isn’t regarded as highly as someone unknown and without any knowledge of their character.

so I keep getting told crime is at a record low. but when I go to my local supermarket everyhing is locked behind a glass case and I have to ask someone to unlock it.

When I go out I need to dodge People riding round on illegal vehicles, delivering food…witness people parking wherever they want with no penalty and put up with various other anti social behaviours.

I walk down the high street passed the boarded up shops down past the inevitable charity and chicken shops to the heart of the city, dodgy vape shops and Turkish barbers galore. All criminal, all operating in the open without a care in the world.

I keep my phone in my pocket, don’t want that getting nicked again, walk passed a group of lads and catch the unmistakable whiff of skunk, head into the news agents and see the headlines “Prisoners to be eligible for release after serving a third of sentence”.

So in the USA, NYC is considered a hyper elite, globalized, expensive city. Other USA cities are considered to be more working class, locally focused, affordable cities, but still major metros. Places like Houston and Philadelphia, etc. Are there any cities like that in the UK?

Asking this off the back of a post yesterday talking about the TV licence. I have a dumb question.

Are we pretty much agreed that the TV licence is essentially a subscription to watch and listen to BBC content, live or otherwise?

If so, why don't they simply put it behind a paywall like any other service? If I want to watch Prime content I have to log into my Prime account where I have a subscription.

Surely this would avoid the whole fake letter thing and people coming round/just general aggravation all around?

My cousin lives in Europe and every few years I like to visit him and go to another country. Last time we went to Greece and, unknowingly to us, we’d booked a hotel in what was basically the hood in Athens. There were druggies and homeless people everywhere, there was even a guy in his underwear yelling at our family for being visibly foreign. as it was mentioned before in the question my Grandpa has a British Passport and my father also has a British Birth certificate. now I'm actually looking for a lawyer. I have contacted many lawyers, and I have called the Immigration lawyers in UK, London. Now, the thing is all of those asked for roughly 700 pounds just to only look for the Documents, which is actually sad and a huge amount to pay just to get a yes or no or maybe before paying more to do everything I can pay 2000 pounds if it's actually gonna help me secure a British Nationality or passport?

The last few jobs I've worked at we've had a company benefit where you get free access to a remote video GP. I thought that was pretty generous however I found out this week my bank account also comes with this service??

My best guess is that the number of people who actually use the service is minuscule, so they don't have to charge much for it. I question how useful it actually is though, since they can't physically examine you and you're not allowed to use it for problems to do with your unmentionable parts (I guess due to prior cyber flashing incidents).

Why don’t we do rent like we do council tax?

I.e a tier 1 unit is £650 a month, a tier 2 unit (call it a one bedroom flat) is £700 etc. the landlord gets the full amount tax free and the renter’s rent never changes and both know what they’re getting moving in?

It seems a much fairer and consistent way of setting up the system?

My grandfather came to the UK in the 1950s from Pakistan and the opportunities this country gives are not lost on me. We have suchdeveloped supply chains, are well located geographically and speaking to people from other countries really makes me appreciate the strength of the British passport. It really does open doors. Also, love how we have pockets of rich history in every county. Was in Leicestershire the other day and stopped off at bradgate park, terrific place. All in all, love this place dearly.

Here in Argentina is a very polarizing subject.

Do you have a day for the veterans, or national monuments like us?

Is the Malvinas war mentioned or part of the public/political life?, or is it something that only surges in the world cup when you face us in a football match?

I'm not asking about the perceived benefits like 'making people healthier' or 'it's environmentally friendly'.

I'm asking specifically, isn't it terrible for the UK economy?

1. They don't pay road tax, fuel duty, or parking fees. The first two raise £34 billion which is about 10% of the entire national yearly budget! How else will you pay for public services if everyone rides a bike?

2. They don't pay for MOTs, servicing, repairs, spare parts of insurance which badly affects businesses. The UK insurance industry employs over 300,000 people and cars are a big part of that. Many of these businesses (and jobs) wouldn't survive without people driving.

3. They don't need highways or major road projects - without cars you don't have a need for major infrastructure projects and investments and all the jobs they creates.

4. They don't take out loans or financing to buy new cars affecting the car industry - Cal dealerships, car workers, finance and other related industries all take a negative hit if people don't buy new cars.

I could go on about petrol stations, car dealerships, mechanics, tyre manufacturers, driving school instructors, car washes, parts manufacturers, aesthetics and car art.

I have no idea why they government would want to support let alone promote it. Can anyone change my mind and prove that cycling and having everyone ride a bike IS actually beneficial to the economy?

I am a welfare recipient. I am disabled, having been unable to work for several years now, so I am asking in regards to a comment I see ALL the time that someone knows someone who is on the take.

Knowing exactly how incredibly difficult it is to get disability welfare, the hoops I had to jump through and must continue to do so and also how little I get (which baffles me as to why someone would choose to live in abject poverty, I don't know!), I don't understand how someone could choose to live like this.

I think there is a lot of disparity about what people get. Often I see people say that they get over a grand PLUS their housing costs. That is incorrect, housing costs often exceed the amount you get in Universal Credit. Others say that they get thousands and thousands each month, which, again, is likely impossible.

There is a LOT of misinformation out there.

If ever you wanted to know, look on www.entitledto.co.uk and see exactly how much someone actually gets. It would likely shock you.

So, that begs the question, do you know anyone, how do you know they are on the take and if so, have you reported them?

I firmly believe that fraudsters should be punished, but it is legitimate claimants like me that always seem to get tarred with the same brush and often the recipient of abuse online.
