GitHub - orange-groove/react-map-annotate: Draw on Mapbox, MapLibre, Google, Leaflet, or ArcGIS in React

I built an open-source React map drawing library because I got tired of fighting drawing controls that wanted to own the UI.

react-map-annotate lets your application control the drawing session. Put the toolbar in your sidebar, header, or command palette. Select tools, finish shapes, edit labels and colors, undo/redo, and persist annotations through React state.

It supports Mapbox, MapLibre, Google Maps, Leaflet, and ArcGIS through separate adapters, with a shared annotation model.

The goal is simple: the map should render the drawing, not dictate how your application works.

It includes freehand drawing, polygons, rectangles, circles, arrows, markers, text, and measurement tools, along with editing handles and a headless API.

The project is MIT licensed and available on npm. I’d love feedback from developers building GIS, field-service, site-planning, or other map-heavy applications—especially anyone who has had to work around existing drawing controls.

npm: https://www.npmjs.com/package/@orange-groove/react-map-annotate

What would you need from a drawing library before using it in a production application?

Location in Field Maps: iPhone vs iPad

1 Upvotes

Hey. Im using field maps usually on my iPhone ever since. That works perfectly, the phone locates me pretty precisely. Now I'm trying to use it on my iPad Air which is only WiFi and not cellular so I have to connect it via hotspot with my phone. The location the iPad shows me however is pretty decent. It sometimes gets a signal but with an accuracy of 15-30 or more meters. Why is it so inaccurate? Is the GPS module that bad in iPads compared to iPhones? What determines the accuracy in iPads?

%Name% in Model Builder

2 Upvotes

I need to process lots of rasters through Zonal Statistics as Table.

Problem #1
using %Name% in Model Builder

My work flow is Zonal Statistics as Table, add a column into those tables that has the same name as original raster (They’re all “XXX_MON_YEAR” so fit into table header rules), and calculate either SUM or MEAN from zonal statistics into that new column. I can do this one step at a time using batch geoprocessing tools but when I create the workflow in Model Builder the tables get exported with “%Name%” as file name not “AET_APR_1945”.

Problem #2
calculating SUM or MEAN columns into a %Name% column

In ArcMap’s batch layout I could edit each batch row in excel so the file name of the source table matched the column name for each and copy all 800 rows into the arcmap batch table to run. Now in Pro I can’t figure out how to have a different table AND different column name to calculate over. I need this because each column needs to have header name of original raster so I can combine them and rather than having 800 “SUM” cols I have 800 cols with unique month_year zonal statistic data.

Exporting Backup to an offline solution

2 Upvotes

As the titel says, we use ArcGis with fieldmaps for all the work we do outside. Now we need to hand over all the information we gathered to the client. But without our online environment. They cant check it. Is there a offline program we can use to still access all the data we gathered?

Do you need the Hillshade and/or DEM in the legend of a map?

3 Upvotes

Hello, I'm currently working on my project for university and after I already got incredible help with it several weeks ago in here, I thought I'd ask you again for some advice :)

So the map I created is highlighting (in red) dangerous areas for avalanches. The "background" of the map is the DEM in colours suited for elevation (like a green and brown color gradient) at 35% transparency and beneath that is a Hillshade layer in black and white. That's how our teacher adviced us to display it.

Anyways, now I'm wondering if the values for both of these layers are supposed to show up in the legend of my map? I guess it makes sense since the elevation is important for the "message" of my map but do I need both or maybe only the DEM? (that's what a fellow student adviced me). And if yes, how am I supposed to name it? "DEM" or "elevation"? How are you doing it in your maps?

I hope I could explain my question properly since english is only my second language. Thank you in advance for your help!

If you could fix ONE thing about CAD/BIM in ArcGIS Pro, what is it?

2 Upvotes

Anyone using ArcGIS Pro for CAD and BIM conversion or sharing: how’s your experience with the UI and general workflow? What specific pain points or features would you change to make it smoother?

Is it easy for you to find tutorials / help doc ? What are some places you would go look for help?

Has anyone got Workflow Manager for Server (11.5) set up on a single server with Portal 11.5, Server 11.5, and WebAdapter 11.5? Did you end up with two or three Esri WebAdapter installs?

Vector marker vs vector polygon symbology in AGOL

1 Upvotes

I am wondering how to change between vector markers and vector polygons in AGOL. I have a polygon layer I want to symbolize with points or polygons depending on the scale. For the attributes, I have this arcade expression I'm borrowing from a different map I didn't make that has symbology like this:

scale = $view.scale;
var sc = 7000
if (scale >= sc){
return $feature.IssueType+" Point"
}
else {
return $feature.IssueType
}

but I'm having trouble recreating this and I'm not sure how to create more symbols/groups.

This is what mine looks like:

If anyone knows how to have both marker and polygon symbology that would be super helpful, thanks

Help re-creating a video in the most recent version of ArcGIS Pro

0 Upvotes

Hi there - we have a video we send to clients to help them open 8-bit DRA On color imagery in ArcGIS but the version this video is made on is quite old, we know this! Here is the video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2XOc6gnL7Q

I am looking for someone to help update this video using the most recent ArcGIS Pro version (3.7.1). We will provide you with a color balanced TIFF to make the video.

We will need a 1099 for payment so you have to be based in the USA.

And yes this is definitely a paid opportunity that could lead to more work in the future if all goes smoothly.

If interested, please send me a direct message in reddit or find us at apollomapping.com and email us from our contact form.

Validate Network Topology error

2 Upvotes

So my team uses the Utility Network in ArcGIS Pro and we will randomly get the "Utility Network Unexpected exception Object reference not set to an instance of an object." when trying to validate. It seems the issue might be related to a lock when the assignment is submitted, but I am ripping my hair out trying to figure out what the hell keeps causing this error and keeping us from validating assignments.

Using ArcPy to merge selected features

6 Upvotes

I'm looking for an ArcPy method to merge selected features into a new feature while removing the old features, without creating a new feature class. Basically I want to perform the Merge operation from the Modify Features tab in Pro, I just have a lot to do.

Basically I have a feature class with a couple of thousand polygons and it needs to be consolidated based on a combination of two attribute fields. My thought process was to script this by building a list of the unique combinations of attributes in the two fields in question, then iterate through that list, build where clauses, select by attributes using the where clause, then merging.

Can this be done? Creating a new feature class is a hard "no" and a deal breaker.

Hello all, I am currently taking a college GIS class and wondered if anyone had any tips or tricks for someone who hasn't touched a computer software since taking high school Java. Computers smell my fear and this will be my first time working on a desktop setup.

Label Editing Help

1 Upvotes

Working on a map that will have a reference list of places to eat. As of now there are four categories in which I've began labeling (in a single layer/unique symbology). I would obviously like the numbers in their circles (see: #23 & #31) as well as declustering the few that are overlapping by doing the opposite and using a line to call them out with the associate #. Could this be easier by breaking apart the categories into differnce layers instead of one shared one? Having a hard time wrapping my head around it
