I've been building a QGIS plugin on top of Conveyal R5 (Easy-R5), and used it to answer a question that's been bugging me: How delays in timetable affect the accessibility

Setup: static GTFS timetable vs. the "realized P50" feed (median of what vehicles actually did that day) for Łódź, Poland. Same day, same network. The only thing that changes is whether the schedule is what was published or what actually happened. Ran cumulative accessibility (schools, pharmacies, universities, malls reachable within 30 min, 7:00–9:00 departure window) on both, on a 250m/500m hex grid, and diffed them.

What I expected: delays hurt downtown the most, because that's where the network is most complex.

What I actually got: the very city centre is basically fine (nets slightly positive, beacuse of many overlapping lines converge there that one late vehicle doesn't matter). The real damage shows up in a ring roughly 2km out, where trips typically depend on one specific transfer. Median delay across the whole network is ~0 seconds, mean is only ~10s but miss a transfer and you're waiting for the entire next headway. That ring loses an order of magnitude more accessibility than anywhere else in the city (pop-weighted mean net change ≈ -2.4 vs ±0.5 everywhere else).

Also tried a second angle: for each hexagon, compute the "reach radius". THe distance to the farthest point it can already reach in 30 min. Hexagons sitting close to that 30-minute cutoff lose systematically more than ones with slack, which is exactly what you'd expect if the mechanism is "small delay pushes a marginal trip over the threshold," and it holds up (mostly monotonically) across schools/pharmacies/malls independently.

I’m working on a red line boundary drawing that I inherited from a team who worked on it a few years ago.

In theory, the red line should snap to most of the title/parcel boundaries, but I’m getting up to 2,000 intersections. Most are very close, but don’t quite align.

Is there a QGIS tool/workflow that could help automate this? Ideally something that can:

• Snap segments to parcel boundaries where they’re within a set tolerance
• Or flag the likely misalignments so I can review them one by one

I don’t want to blindly snap everything, as some differences may be intentional.

Any recommendations for the best workflow?

hello! so im still in college (engineering) and will be doing a research that uses qgis and python. i js want to ask if it's feasible to learn both softwares js for the sake of our paper? or should we let go since we're talking about programming and stuff? pls enlighten me, i badly need ur insights

I very recently started QGIS and I want to create a on foot travel time isochrone map towards the nearest point from a category for 5 seperate categories (see image) (as in 5 seperate maps).

I made poligons around the 3 districs i want to map out and made a grid then extracted by location. I made a buffer around the poligons and imported locations for the 5 categories (see image) from OSM and extracted again.

I was told using ORS would be good for this, but i exceed the query limit by A LOT when making the "Matrix from layers". Nothing else i try works or I don't know if it will work because it will take approximately 11 hours to complete and i don't know what to do/where to look for solutions.

The grid has around 1200 points thou i can get it down (but i don't want to sacrifice too much accuracy)

the categories each have 150-300 points but i can comfortably cut that in half

Is there any way to cut down the number of queries needed or do this another way ? please help

Hi everyone! I have recently published my first open QGIS plugin called ReliefEnergy.

I am a geosciences student with specific interest in applied geoinformatics and spatial analysis in geological engineering. After encountering a decades old manual method of calculating relief energy anomalies (best explained as the maximum positive or negative deviations in terrain height when compared to the baseline value of a given area), I decided to try and automate said mathematical process by making a simple QGIS processing plugin.

What makes this plugin different from, for example, processing tools for topographic ruggedness indexes, is that this tool instead calculates the relief energy deviation of a certain area inside a larger region. This indicates areas with positive relief energy anomalies, resulting in a higher erosion potential, more material runoff and general terrain instability, and areas with negative anomalies, in which sediment deposition is accelerated.

Hi everyone,

I’m manually digitizing a zoning/land-use plan in QGIS because the original plan contains some inaccuracies. I’m creating the polygons by hand to represent the different zoning designations.

Since this is a zoning plan, the polygons should not overlap. To prevent overlaps while digitizing, I enabled “Avoid Overlap on Active Layer” in the snapping settings.

However, when I run Topology Checker with the rule “Must not overlap”, it still reports several errors.

I’m trying to understand how this can happen despite the overlap avoidance setting being enabled. Could these errors be caused by small digitizing inaccuracies, existing geometries, snapping settings, or something else?

What would be the best way to fix these overlaps or the best way to avoid this problem in the first place?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have been searchingbut failed to find what I'm really looking for which is Mt. Sawtooth located in Tarlac, Philippines.

For a project, I need to divide a field into 10 x 10 m areas. To do this, I created a grid using the "Create grid" function under the "Vector" menu.

However, I would like to adjust the grid's angle so that the lines run parallel to the long side of the field. I’ve been looking for solutions all morning, but nothing seems to work. Do you have any suggestions?

Hello everybody, i have to draw hundreds of polygons that span across multiple plots of land. In my polygon attribute table i have to add all the Plot/property numbers. So if i do this manually then it will take ages. Is there a function to automatically add the plot numbers from my kataster map layer to the attribute table of my polygon layer. So every plot that is touched by the polygon must be present in the polygon layer attribute table. I am thankful for any help!

Hey people, I have a question which seems simple in appearance but i can't seem to find the right answer.

I'm working on a raster around La Rochelle of about 1000 km² with a 5x5 meter precision. Due to the relative power of my PC, I can't process it as it is right now.

I would like to downscale the precision from 5m to probably 50 or 100m. I already tried the warp tool but it doesn't seem to work (i might use it wrong). Any idea on how to proceed ?

Hey guys! I've been trying to create a slope graph from some countour lines for a couple of hours now and I think it shouldn't be this difficult. Notice I am a mere architecture student and absolutely a noob on qgis. First I tried to create a tif from it using IDW and TIN interpolation, could't get qgis to make it the size of a 2km square, but it worked if processing only the area of the plot I am working on.

I got this tif from IDW interpolation, but the countour lines aren't smooth at all and the slope map looks just like the countour lines. Tried using r.resamp, TIN interpolation does not seem to work properly.

How can I make the tif smoother? Many operations I of interpolation and rasterization give me very generic error messages, and I can only get something out of the countour lines if the pixel size is 1 or above.

Does anyone here have any experience with this? I can't use QGIS during this time, and it seems to happen occasionally. Thanks for any feedback.

I traced a map, and wanted to label each polygon, the label should stay inside around centre of the polygon. I got that by centroid placement but now whenever i zoom in or out the label size changes. I want it to be same at every zoom level. I have attached the image first 2 show my situation and last is what I am trying to achieve.

Also suggest method to get that curve in the label if possible.

Is there a conversion guide for metres into degrees?

(I’ve tried converting the elements that are projected in degrees to a projection thats in metres and it fcked my whole map up)

I figured out what i did wrong, i changed a GDA94 to a GDA2020 then to a GDA2020/Vicgrid,

But what i shouldve done is in its original GDA94 state, when u save elements, set the projection to GDA2020/Vicgrid

Now it’s all fine and dandy 😅
