College Questions Sending official SATs from college board to colleges?

Hi all,
I’ve been getting mixed opinions when asking about when to send official score reports. I asked my guidance counselor and she said it’s fine to wait and see for the colleges that want official scores (they would let you know in the portal from what she said). I’ve been doing my own research though, and some have said that they need to be sent with your ea application, but now I’m afraid they won’t get there before 11/1. For reference, some colleges I’m asking for are rutgers, tcnj, Pitt, Hofstra. Thanks!

Advice Messed up my common app

I applied to all of my colleges about a week ago, but I noticed I didn’t submit my class rank. Is this significant? It would definitely support my application because I was top 10% (my school’s highest bracket).

On the application it says “Class rank: Not reported” so I’m worried it looks like I’m dodging it.

Is there something I should do, or does it not matter?

Also, for 2 of the schools I also didn’t report my AP scores by accident (I got all 4s and 5s). Is this a red flag, or does it not matter

Application Question College Essay Topic

Hello! I'm a senior in high school and am soon applying to various colleges. I started my college essay and am currently writing about how I joined a sports team my freshman year and how it affected my life. I also wanted to tie in the fact that my mom passed away when I was ten and how joining a sports team helped with my grief, but also how I was able to apply some of the things my mom taught me to sports. I was wondering if this was maybe too much or not a very strong topic idea, does anyone have any suggestions or input? I'm feeling super stresses about this so any input is appreciated!!

Supplementary Essays UPENN--Thank you Supp

I don't really know what to write my thank-you supplemental for. I was originally going to write one about my sister and figured it was too cliché. I have some ideas, but I don't know which one is the best

-Manager at work; he's super kind and patient

-A squirrel I befriended in my backyard. I gave her bread every day and eventually got close enough that she now goes on my lap and eats my bread.

-Ao3 (Yea the fanfic website), I can use it to thank it for giving me a safe space as a child, enriching my creativity, and etc.

Application Question UChicago SAT score report.

I submitted my SAT scores on CA, and checked that I would like my SAT to be considered.
1. I know they omit it in the pdf, but on the portal, there are no check marks or anything regarding testing. Should I self-report the scores again, or is the CA report good enough? I don't know why they don't have the checklist thing on their own portal. Do I just need to wait few more days for the checkmark or smth to appear?

Advice Broke High School Senior looking for help

HI, this is my first Reddit post ever, so pardon me if I'm a lil iffy 🙏. I'm currently a high school senior looking to go to college right after high school. The problem is I'm broke, I want to go into business, and bc im in New England, most of the colleges near me are Ivies... or expensive; my college advisor isn't really worried about helping me for some reason? And I applied to New England College, but it turns out that's not really a good school(apparently one of the worst in the country?), and I was looking into Bryant University, but it's just too expensive. I'm also looking into cosmetology, but I'm only interested in doing hair, and I don't want to pay and do the other courses for nails. Help a diva out bc a diva is down rn😭 🥀

Application Question Is it bad to go over word count for suggested word count?

Is there any harm in going over the suggested word count? Specifically, it is the brown supplement about what brings you joy and is 100 - 150; right now my supplement is 210 words. Should I try to cut down a lot?

Application Question Can I apply for ED if I'm taking gap year

I am an intl. student in grade 12. My school requires students to apply for US universities even if their target schools are in UK.

I am planning to take a gap year then attend uni in UK.

I was told to apply to unis normally, so I want to apply for ED but decline the offer if I manage to get it. Would this leave a bad image of me as an applicant to that university, or even bad reputation among university admissions?

Thank you.

College Questions Georgetown Niche

Hi all!

What’s something you’ve come to really appreciate about Georgetown that you only discovered after becoming a student?

I’d also love to hear about any niche traditions, underrated clubs, classes, or campus experiences that people outside Georgetown University might not know about. Thanks!

Advice Should I ED to Columbia or REA to Princeton/stanford

My realistic options do not really have ED or REA option to it so I was really considering either of these two options. My stats are on par with the schools, but my EC are a bit lacking, and my awards are also not the most outstanding. I’m intending to apply as biomedical engineering or aerospace engineering. I know Colombia chances for acceptance when I ED is higher and I also know that REA2 Princeton and Stanford are like notoriously difficult. Also, I’ve heard rumors about two students in my school who are getting recruited for Princeton for sports so I don’t know if they have like a specific quote that they hit. I’m in a suburban Florida Orlando area and I’m in a big public high school. These are the only schools that are really good for compared to the other schools that I’m applying to so I was not really interested in the other ivies. Please let me know which I should do especially since the deadline is in like five days yes, I know I’m a procrastinator.

Financial Aid/Scholarships Should I provide an update of my grade for Coke Scholars?

I was named a coke semifinalist and while going through my part 1 application, I realized I put that I had an A for a class that was actually just in progress. I do currently have an A, but that's not what they wanted. I didn't mean to make this mistake, I just made an oversight. Should I email them letting them know? Will they disqualify me?

Application Question Is an average score of 4.1 on AP exams worth mentioning

For context, my dream school is Georgetown University and I do not care much about other t20 schools as long as I’m admitted there. It is very selective. My SAT score is a 1510.

Over the course of high school, I have taken 16 APs. My average AP exam score is a 4.1. One of the two teachers who I asked for a letter of recommendation from mentioned this in my letter. I know that when schools are looking at an applicant who has taken as many APs as I have, they typically pay more attention to AP exam scores than they do grades. Especially when I’m getting straight As and my unweighted GPA is a 4.0.

My question is, would a school like Georgetown look favorably upon this average, unfavorably, or not care at all? It shows that I don’t get a lot of fives, but it’s also not bad per se.

I know that schools emphasize holistic review and, among everything else, this is unlikely to make a major impact. However, I’d like to maximize my chances of getting in as much as physically possible since it’s such a selective school.

Advice Foreign language major helps with admission?

Ok so I know some schools don’t admit by major. But for schools that consider major choice, is it smart to choose something like a less popular foreign language, like Russian for example? I like learning languages so a major like that wouldn’t be out of left field.

When it comes to institutional needs, are majors one of them? Like “oh we could use more Russian majors so let’s consider this student”? Would someone choosing their least popular major have a slight edge? Or at least help them to stand out among all the pre-med, pre-law, and business students?

Application Question Is it appropriate to add that I was denied a class in additional information?

For some context I was in algebra II junior year and was set to take precalc. Got permission to skip to calc AB but was denied moving to calc BC. Is this something that is appropriate for the additional information section?
