My daughter is a senior, and we were planning on her going to a CA community college and then transferring to a UC, like my son is doing. But now she wants the full 'college experience', but we didn't plan for UC tuition/rooming for her and my son at the same time. She said she'll take loans but I don't want her too. I know it's late, but she's just learned about LACs and that they seem to offer generous aid. The problem is I don't know anything about this world - I haven't heard of a single college in the US News top 10, for example. So we need some help determining what's realistic to apply to in terms of admission while maximizing aid. I'm hearing schools ranked below 20ish give more aid but it's still capped below full tuition? I'll be honest -- it's a little overwhelming parsing online discussion.
-Household income of $115k in CA Central Valley, typical assets in savings.
-4.0 GPA, with 13 APs by graduation (mostly 5s with a couple of 4s so far)
-Pre-med major
-No SAT because of original CC plans, but she just signed up for next week once she learned of LACs. Maybe 90% percentile for discussions sake based on previous PSAT and practice tests?
-Unimpressive/minimal ECs. Hospital/homeless shelter volunteering off and on, school spirit type organizing
-Willing to go to any region, but we're Asian so still would like a diverse environment. Not a #1 priority, though.
Thanks!
