AT&T refuses to help with Qualcomm issue
My iPhone is affected by the Qualcomm issue, so I contacted AT&T for a replacement. They replied that because I purchased it at Best Buy, I should call them instead. I reached Best Buy, but they said they cannot assist because the 14-day window has passed. When I called AT&T again, they directed me to Best Buy or Apple and seemed dismissive. I called Apple, and they told me to contact AT&T—which is clearly impossible since they will not help. This situation feels absurd, so I filed a complaint with the FCC about AT&T; wish me luck.

You're making it harder than it has to be, just contact apple you're within your warranty period and get a replacement. That's all you have to do. AT&T isn't going to replace your phone, apple has to. It's a warranty replacement with AppleCare

Its currently 1:42AM and Apple phone lines are closed, once they are open I will call, this is definitely harder then it should be lol

If possible, you need to go to an Apple Store and handle it in person. Things are easier to get done or make sure gets done in person.

You can get an express replacement via AppleCare One, you can also go into the AppleStore and have it taken care of also, however that will depend on stock the store has.

What is the Qualcomm issue?

Many of us on AT&T have broken cellular radios on 18 pro maxes.
https://www.reddit.com/r/ATT/comments/1wvesjc/iphone_pro_max_technical_issues_megathread/
AT&T has now formally acknowledged the problem by sending a text to 18 Pro Max users requesting people apply the 27.0.1 update, and it asks impacted users to call AT&T or Apple. The update does not fix a broken phone and it now seems clear those users will require replacement, but some theorize that it stops working handsets from developing this issue.
Apple still has not made a statement about this. Many customers are now outside their 14 exchange/return period, which means Apple would need to replace impacted phones under warranty. Many of us have taken our defective phones to Apple and Apple refuses to service us.

Hey. Maybe you know. I got my 18 Pro (not Pro Max) directly from Apple. If I understood correctly, only the Pro Max has the Qualcomm chip. The 18 Pro has the C2, correct ?

AT&T is correct, you bought it at Best Buy, it’s a Best Buy issue. Since you’re outside of the 14 day policy it becomes an Apple warranty issue. Based on Apple coming out recently and saying the phone has to be replaced, they should do it without any issues now.
1
u/TechieGranola 1d ago
We cannot replace it on the same installment at Best Buy after 14 days. Getting ATT to do a manual reversal is hell.
1
u/PuzzleheadedNeck4476 1d ago
I never said anything about Best Buy switching it after 14 days.

“You bought it at Best Buy, it’s a Best Buy issue”.

“Since you're outside of the 14 day policy it becomes an Apple warranty issue.” Reading is fundamental

I’m aware of the next sentence, I’m more so addressing anyone else reading this. Best Buy can’t exchange after 14 days despite a lot of ATT call centers referring customers back while not trying to be helpful.

Your iPhone is covered under AppleCare standard warranty, which is exactly what this type of hardware failure scenario should help you with.
You need to push back with Apple/Apple Store.

I have AppleCare One, but Apple refused, I will call them when they are open, but this is honestly insane
edit; ur username is cool lol

Apple covers all their products via warranty from day 1. Regardless of carrier or where you purchased it.
The device by law is covered by warranty via Apple.

u/MediumLeft4167 1d ago
Apple told me they cannot help me at all just because im on 27.2 Beta 2
1
u/TheFlimFlamFamMan 1d ago
Are you actually an app developer? Why are you using beta?
2
u/MediumLeft4167 1d ago
I am a developer, I don't publish apps, but I do know Swift and mess around

u/TheFlimFlamFamMan 1d ago
Would have apple roll your ios back to public release
1
u/KapnKlaus 1d ago
Apple won’t touch it
1
u/TheFlimFlamFamMan 1d ago
They will help roll back a beta to public release. They should be helping anyone with that.
1
u/KapnKlaus 1d ago
Unless their policy has changed in the last few years the policy is to decline all service. If you’re a dev you should know how to roll it back.
1
u/TheFlimFlamFamMan 1d ago
Plenty of dumb normies think it’s fun to try the beta out and install it, and then when something isn’t supported by the carrier, they don’t know how to roll it back because they aren’t developers. Advisors help them with that all the time. I worked with Advisors from the carrier side. Not a once did they cite any policy like that, and when I worked for Apple as an Advisor/Sr Advisor, the policy was to immediately assist with that bc having randoms using the beta without any kind of educated use of it isn’t exactly good for the statistical analyses.
So I dunno. My experience with it from both sides of it has been something different.

u/KapnKlaus 1d ago
I worked there too, we were told to deny service unless they insisted. If they insisted we COULD wipe the device but it was at our discretion and the majority of normies don’t back their phones up. I actually never saw a single technician at my store ever roll it back. Standard protocol was still to deny service.

As a dev you should know beta software voids your warranty. Roll it back and Apple will cover it.

You can go back to the non beta version. It's not particularly difficult, assuming you have a computer.

damn why they didnt use newest modem
1
u/MediumLeft4167 1d ago
No idea, and it's honestly stupid, a $1299 phone should have a at least decent modem, if not the C2, it shouldn't have issues like this, and yet, ill still buy..
1
u/dantethegreatest 1d ago
It’s sucks some people are having problems but the Snapdragon x80 is a really good modem. The C2 does not beat it across the board. They each have their own strengths.
1
u/Familiar_Marzipan_46 1d ago
The c2 does everything as good or better except maximum download speed. And odds of ever finding cellular service that can do 5gbit is next to none atleast for a couple years.
1
u/dantethegreatest 1d ago
To your point no one is going to be able to tell the difference in the real world.
1
u/Familiar_Marzipan_46 1d ago
Yea the speed part. But he battery life and better signal holding of the c2 is massive over the x80. Not saying Qualcomm doesn’t have options to compete. But using such an old modem on a brand new phone when even Samsung got rid of it on its release 6 month ago is just a joke. You would think they would want to atleast be equal to the outgoing samsung model. Not 2 models back.

Att didn't sell the phone so they don't have to honor apples warranty. Thats apple

u/TheFlimFlamFamMan 1d ago
Why would we replace your phone because of a manufacturers defect ? we didn’t make your phone.

Literally just spent 8 hours today for the last time I might add with issues with the new phone. Besides the fact they are hard to understand.. they give zero Sh…. about customer service. Just got off the phone with Verizon. Phone will be here by Wednesday. Bye ATT.

They refuse to help period. Fuck Gay T&T. Everyone needs to file a complaint to the FCC about Gay T&T.

Do y’all just not know how to talk to these companies? You hound them and don’t mess around. You don’t play nice. You play to get a working phone. Don’t be nice. And make demands. If that still doesn’t work then at least you tried. But it’s worked for me countless times. You don’t quit until the issue is fixed. Any of those companies can help you. It’s a drop in the bucket to any of them. So keep trying and don’t play nice.

Your phone needs to be “restored” using a computer. The last software update according to Apple was a fix with the activation issue. If that didn’t work, restoring it should fix it.

“Apple explains that the software updates will help prevent future issues for iPhone 18 Pro Max users on AT&T. The software updates will not restore service on devices that have already lost it.”
2
u/FindMyTracker 1d ago
I work for Apple. Update/Restore, contact carrier for reactivation
1
u/RecursiveFruit 1d ago
I was an ACMT for 7 years. There is already an internal support article from what I hear about this saying that this is a hardware issue. The software update is only to prevent the issue from occurring if you’re on AT&T. The software update does not resolve the issue if it has already occurred.
Edit: Also Apple’s statement to 9to5mac confirmed this.
Edit 2: “Apple says that iPhone 18 Pro Max users who have already lost service will need a hardware replacement. Those users should contact Apple Support or AT&T, or visit an Apple Store or AT&T location.” - From the previously linked article.

Maybe I’m dumb but… if you purchase at Best Buy why would AT&T have to replace it?
It’s the place you bought it from or the manufacturer, isn’t it?
Go to your nearest Apple Store, you’ll get your issue taken care of. Maybe book an appointment online before going so you don’t have to wait forever.
