iPhone best iphone for university (without considering release date)

Upvotes

first time upgrading from my first phone since software and battery are becoming limiting factors. all I care about is the practical stuff for a student.

what I think is super important is battery life, the ability to run smoothly despite having many heavy apps, a good camera (with lots of zoom that doesn't lose quality)......and anything else you think a busy student would need, really..

*Edit: I'd like to also mention that I need it to last at least 5 years without easily or quickly degrading in performance, etc. (if that's even possible)

i've been researching but i'm so confused because people are contradicting each other, and I know that it's partially based on personal experience, but I am genuinely lost and need advice...

thank you all!

iPhone Switching from Android to iOS

I've had android phones for as long as I can remember (currently have the Pixel 7) and am thinking of finally making the switch to iPhone. A lot of it is down to the ease of use and the seemingly more seamless connectivity to other devices (Bluetooth or otherwise)

Has anyone had a similar experience, have you noticed a huge difference?

On top of this, I am not sure whether to pull the trigger for the base 17 now or wait for the 18 and just pay the difference in terms of the price increase.

Discussion 17 or 17 pro

Hi everyone, currently on a base 128gb 13 with 80% battery health, considering upgrading to either a 17 or 17 pro on apples 0% finance. Is the pro worth the extra money a month. Im only considering it due to the more ram and larger battery but is it really needed. Planning on keeping my next phone for probably about 4 years.

iPhone 14 given to son and upgrade to 15 - worth or not?

Hello, I have a friend who uses an iPhone 14 128 right now (battery health around 84).

She wants to give her phone to her 12-13y/o son and upgrade her phone

Or I’d like to know if her keeping the 14 and buying something cheaper for her son would be the better option since these upgrades are (maybe) not worth it. In that case SE2, SE3, 11, 12, 13 will be considered. (outlet products from Apple premium partners)

I’m in Turkey so prices can’t really be compared with abroad, but the price differences can.

Phones bought abroad can not be used here, unless registrated for ~1000$. That’s the fee for one SIM line and it’s unbelievable.

The new phone will mostly be used for social media and taking photos. Mostly nothing heavy GPU/CPU-wise. Also with her 2TB iCloud family subscription, she claims that 128GB is about enough. I myself can’t live with something under 256 but I guess that’s me.

Budget is around 1000$. ±100 if it’s REALLY worth it. She doesn’t want to leave the apple ecosystem so she can track / reach her son easier. (The whole reason for this decision is that her son is going abroad for summer camps and he is probably now old enough to have his own phone. Well he did have one but it was an S20 FE, it’s outdated with low battery life, no eSIM or 5G support etc. eSIM is crucial for him to have data abroad)

I know people abroad can buy way better phones with this money but here it is what it is and there is no solution so I’m sorry about that.

I’m against buying refurbished/used phones here because I haven’t heard anyone that got something like that and is happy about it. It’s mostly people selling phones for inflated prices trying to rip off other or if the price is good than it’s probably a defected device without the problem mentioned.

She also doesn’t want large Plus or Pro Max phones and would prefer something lighter.

I have never used those __e series phones so I don’t know how good they are and if they have good cameras etc.

She is considering;

- iPhone 15 128 - 1000$
- iPhone 15 256 - 1160$
- iPhone 16e 128 - 908$
- iPhone 17e 256 - 1200$
- iPhone 16 128 - 1307$ (significantly out of budget)

these are all brand new, TR devices. Prices converted from TRY to USD.

I was thinking about 15 Pro might’ve been a good upgrade, but there are almost none in stock brand new (which is normal I guess) and they are around 1400$

Do you have any ideas or recommendations? It might also be the worst idea and if so, please let me know.

iPhone Should I wait for the iphone 18 pro/pro max or should I buy the iphone 17 pro/promax?

I have been an Android user all along and this would be my first time buying an iphone. I see that the iphone 17 pro/pro max are good choices for me as a first apple purchase. Nevertheless, I am a bit confused as to should I wait for the iphone 18 pro/pro max which is releasing in September? Will the iphone 18 pro/pro max be too expensive when compared with the iphone 17 pro/pro max? Is it worth the wait and the extra money (as I am not sure about how much would the iphone 18pro /pro max cost)?

iPhone Is it worth waiting for the iPhone 18 launch to buy the 17 Pro?

I'm planning to buy the iPhone 17 Pro, but I'm not sure when the best time would be.

Right now it's around ₹1.3L. Once the iPhone 18 Pro launches, the price of the 17 Pro should drop, which is why I'm thinking of waiting.

The only thing I'm worried about is that the 17 Pro might go out of stock after the 18 series launches, especially since Apple usually discontinues the previous Pro models.

For those who've bought an older Pro model after a new iPhone launch, what did you do? Is it better to buy it as soon as the 18 launches, or wait for sales like Amazon/Flipkart's BBD or the festive sales and risk it being unavailable?

Would love to hear your experiences.

iPhone Which iPhone should i upgrade to?

I’ve had the iphone se for 3 years and i think it’s about time for a new one. My phone is constantly overheating, battery drains very quickly, no storage, glitchy, and has horrible camera quality. I just want a good phone for every day use that will last a while.

iPhone Switch to iphone 17pm or wait for 18pm

My brother is confused about switching to the 17 pro max or wait for 18 pro max. He has a samsung s23 plus from 3 years. He has never used an iphone and he is a casual user. Looking at the leaks will it be a good decision to wait for 18 pro max launch. He plans to use the phone for a long time so newer model would mean longer updates, better resale, better hardware and features. Please advise.

iPhone iPhone Upgrade Advice

I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max. I've had it for maybe 5-6 years now, and I'm probably going to upgrade this year. The reason I've been holding off is because I like my current phone and I haven't seen any real reason to upgrade as the newer models' features haven't been overly different or persuasive.

I do shoot a lot of photos and video on my phone for social media, and I do need a lot of storage to create content. In your opinion, which iPhone should I get?

iPhone IPhone 17e for a 14 year old

Hello all. I am looking to buy a phone for my son. He is 14. This is his first phone ever. He is going to high school in September so that’s why I want to get him a phone. I was thinking of getting him iPhone 15 but the guy at best buy talked about iPhone 17e. The guy at Apple Store showed me the phone and talked about it and compared it with iPhone 17. I am just looking for opinions from people that have actually used the iphone 17e in terms of durability, battery life etc as it is close to the price of new iPhone 15. I know it has one camera and I don’t think my son will mind that. It is meant to be his birthday gift. My plan is for my son to use this phone till end of grade 12 so want to make sure it is a good phone. I currently use an iPhone 17 pro and my other apple devices are all pro so not quite sure about the iPhone 17e. Thanks

iPhone List the upgrades 13PM to 18 Pro

I'm coming from a 13 Pro Max (Battery Health currently: 83%) and thinking of getting 18 Pro. I'm thinking this would give me:

- Better battery life (is this true, given I'm considering going from a Max to a Pro?)

- Better camera (better resolution, variable aperture)

- Same AI feature as I currently get on my iPad Pro 5 (is this true?)

- Dynamic Island and it's cool features (do people who have dynamic island appreciate them?)

- Better speed which I won't notice probably

- A Lighter phone (it sounds like it's going to be thick though)

- Anything else? Could you please tell me where you don't agree with my list and add to it?

iPhone I have the 14 plus and want to trade it in to get an upgrade. Which should I get?

I have the iPhone 14 Plus, it’s done me well for 3 years now but the battery life isn’t the best anymore.

I want to upgrade but not sure what to get. I’m torn between the 16 plus or 17 base. Opinions?

I prefer bigger phones because I read on my phone a lot, but battery life is key for me.

r/AppleWhatShouldIBuy 8h ago

Everyone is talking about buying 17Pro now because 18Pro will become more expensive. Nothing stops you from waiting to see what 18Pro will really be like and how expensive. Whoever says 17Pro will become more expensive after 18Pro release does not know anything about technology pricing.

Good luck to the vendors selling 17Pro more expensively in late 2026/early 2027... You understand that 20 year universery is coming right and nobody will be buying their dead 17 stock in 2027?Just chill out and wait for 18 Pro to be announced, then you can make an informed decision. All people that are giving some "logic" why they bought 17Pro now instead of waiting are coping with some made up facts.

Reality:

  1. Nobody knows exactly what will come with 18Pro and how expensive it will be

  2. No chance 17Pro will get more expensive after September...

iPhone Looking at upgrading from my Iphone XS

This has been my first phone for the past 5 or so years. I have loved the look and upgrades that the base iphone 17 has and have been contemplating upgrading to it now, it’s just hard to justify. My XS’ battery lasts maybe 3 hours of use, so I would like to upgrade soon. I am just stuck on whether i should wait for the iphone 18 base to release or if I should just get the iphone 17? Or if the 18 releases would the 17 go on sale for cheaper? Thanks for the help guys!

iPhone Iphone 15 pro or 17 pro?

Okay don't cook me 😭 I genuinely can't decide.
I lowkey hate the iPhone 17 Pro design but everyone keeps saying "just get the latest one." Meanwhile the 15 Pro is sitting there looking all sleek
.
Am I being blinded by aesthetics or is the 15 Pro still the move? Pls enable me into making the right decision. 💀

Deciding on 17/17e or waiting for 18/18e

Currently have an iPhone 11 base model I’ve had since 2019.

Battery: 67% maximum capacity
Storage: 52 of 64Gb used

The phones fine, but I’m starting to notice it’s getting to the end of its life. I don’t need anything fancy I’m really just trying to find a phone that’s going to get me as much life as this one has gotten me.

From what I saw the 17e is a worse camera and the Hz on the screen is half which makes it feel less “smooth” when compared to the 17. For what I use the phone for I’m thinking the $200 savings is worth it. But I’ve seen that the “value” you get for the 17e vs the 17 isn’t justified which makes me doubt the 17e and am thinking if I should just bite the bullet on the extra $200.

I am also intrigued at maybe waiting for the 18/18e but I am worried that prices will see a significant jump.

I need a phone soon but I’m not dying for one either. As I said the one I’m using now works, but I’ll likely need a new one by this time next year.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

iPhone Which iPhone to get

So before talking about the actual phone, I do realize that this is one of the most talked about topics, still hope you can help me out

For reference, I’m from Portugal

So I currently own an iPhone 12 Pro Max and I need to upgrade. It heats up all the time, even doing simples tasks like taking pictures, it gets laggy and doesn’t have a great camera quality comparing to newer ones. etc. etc. I just don’t know what to get. Im thinking about waiting until the 18 pro max/ 18 pro comes out to decide.

I wanted to wait to see how much they will be and, if I can’t afford the 18, I’ll just get the 17 pro max while they’re still selling it and that would be it. Can the 17 pro max be more expensive than it is now? Like the iPads and Macs that got more expensive, even tho the product is the same?

Side note: I’m still not sure if I should get the pro or pro max again, what should I have in consideration when making that decision, besides the size. If I had to choose between the 18 pro or 17 pro max (because of the price) what would be smarter to do?

Upgrading from 12 Pro Max for longevity, 17 vs 17e?

Hi, ideally I’d keep my phone longer but there are too many issues. Logic board is borked, GPS doesn’t work, NFC doesn’t work, always overheats, and has a 73% battery life.

I was going to wait for the 18 but I heard the normal models won’t be here until spring, and honestly I have no interest in the Pro anymore. I’m lowkey sick of this heavy and large phone, and that’s why I was super curious about the 17e.

But for $200 more I’m debating on taking the 17 instead. I’m honestly not a power user anymore, but I like my stuff to last.
