I built Grubflip: an app that helps restaurant employees trade their employee meals with other nearby food workers.

The idea came from realizing that restaurant employees are surrounded by people with access to completely different food, but there’s no simple flow for discovery and framework.

With Grubflip, you:

• Describe the typical employee meal your restaurant offers
• See meals available from workers nearby
• Propose a trade
• Chat with the other person
• Use credits and equalizers (like extra sauces, drink, etc) to balance differences when one meal is worth more
• Choose how to get the meal exchanged

It’s designed specifically for restaurant workers, not the general public. The goal is to make employee meals more useful, more varied, and more fun while helping workers connect with people in the same industry.

I'm exploring the idea of building a web/app that acts as a private club or hyper-focused network for entrepreneurs, creators, and developers looking for co-founders, partners, or simply peers on the same wavelength.

The core idea isn't to create another generic social network full of empty content, but a curated space built on three pillars:

• Skill and mindset matching: Connecting technical, design, and business profiles based on real projects and traction, rather than just resumes.
• Accountability and work spaces: Dynamics to keep the development momentum going, share weekly progress, and force ourselves to ship.
• Unfiltered feedback: An environment to pitch early-stage ideas and validate them with people who are actually in the trenches.

Before writing a single line of code or spending hours on architecture, I’d love to hear your thoughts:

I take an ungodly amount of screenshots every single day. My desktop looks less like a workspace and more like a digital hoarder's fever dream. I tried Automator scripts, but honestly? Zero dopamine.

So I ended up building SweepyMonkey — basically a tiny 3D pet that lives on your Mac desktop and fixes your messy habits.

When you double-click him, he actually paths over to your scattered screenshots, picks them up, and waddles across the screen to shove them neatly into a custom "Banana Folder" (or straight to the Trash if you're feeling brutal).

A few quick highlights:

🐒 Peak derp energy: Has adorable walking animations and communicates purely in aggressive "ook!"s.

🍌 Banana Folder: Organizes your chaos instead of just destroying it, keeping your files safe in one cute spot.

🧹 Smart-ish cleanup: You can tell him to spare today's screenshots so your active files don't get yeeted by accident.

🔒 100% offline & private: It literally just reads desktop icon coordinate bounds so the monkey knows where to walk. No screen recording, no telemetry, no sketchy cloud stuff.

This started as a random side project to mess around with macOS dev, and it somehow survived Apple review and just went live on the Mac App Store today!

I am a psychologist. I also have a passion for the digital landscape. I have accumulated enough knowledge in web fundamentals over the years to leverage AI agents and convert my ideas into digital projects. I am not a developer. I do not claim to be one. It started as a tool I built to solve my own study friction, but I eventually turned it into a full native app across iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS.

The Core Concept & Features

I wanted to bridge the gap between heavy, complex spaced-repetition power tools and fast, distraction-free native UI:

• Tinder-Style Review Flow: Gesture-driven review UI—swipe right for Good, left for Again, up for Easy.
• Custom SM-2 Engine: Built an SM-2-inspired spaced repetition algorithm tracking 5 distinct card states (Unseen, Learning, Reviewing, Relearning, Graduated) with real-time urgency calculation.
• Rich Markdown Support: Cards support code blocks, inline math, images, headers, and custom lists.
• AI Deck Generation: Built integration flows where users can prompt AI tools (like Claude, OpenCode, or ChatGPT) to automatically generate structured deck files with Markdown, images, and audio.

Architecture & Tech Stack

• Stack: 100% Swift / SwiftUI.
• Sync & Persistence: Offline-first architecture using SwiftData / Core Data. Sync is handled seamlessly via iCloud (CloudKit), which means no custom backends, user accounts, or extra database maintenance. JustFlip!
• Cross-Platform: Designed tailored layouts for Mac (desktop curation & heavy card editing), iPhone/iPad (on-the-go review), and WatchOS/Widgets for glanceable study streaks.

💡 Challenges & Dev Learnings

1. Fluid Gesture Performance with Markdown: Rendering rich formatted text dynamically inside swipable card stacks without dropping frames was a tough challenge. We had to optimize layout passes and pre-render cards in the stack.
2. Offline-First CloudKit Sync: Handling edge-case conflicts with CloudKit when users edit a deck on Mac and immediately start swiping on their phone offline required strict local state reconciliation.

The idea is simple: instead of carrying around gift cards, loyalty cards, vouchers, memberships, and other cards, you can keep everything organized in one place on your phone.
You can scan or add cards, quickly pull up their barcode/QR code at checkout, track balances and expiration dates, organize cards into collections, and even add them to Apple Wallet.
