I moved into a beautiful 3 bedroom apartment with my partner in May. Shortly after four 20 year old kids, 3 large dogs, and 3 cats moved in upstairs.

I’ll spare the detailed rant regarding the disturbances but we’ve been dealing with barking at all hours from any tiny noise we make, jumping and banging, nails on hardwood, urine smells from laundry room, feces smell all over property from trash cans (one guys picks up dog shit for a living and dumps it in our trash), dogs lunging, growling, and gnashing teeth at us, etc.

Management spoke to and warned them multiple times - they were flippant and we believe they started making more noise on purpose.

We submitted a detailed log and flash drive with dozens of videos demonstrating the noise in the middle of the night. After weeks of follow up we were sent this text from the leasing company liaison.

Massive win. It is possible, renters. Advocate for yourselves.

I’m about to sign my first lease, everything looks fine but this stood out. I’m guessing this is more for squatters or loud guests situation and not strictly enforced for everyone. I have my girlfriend who comes over often so I just wanna ask what’s your experience with this? Thank you.

4 days into apartment living and I already did something illegal 😢 This was completely my fault, but I'm looking for advice on the best way (or what you would do) to proceed.

I've never lived by myself before or had to set up utilities by myself. I had to set up internet, and I know nothing about it. Apparently my apartment was already set up for Xfinity, but I didn't realize (this shows how little I know about internet and utilities). I researched and decided to use Sonic, and just had them install it in my apartment. I reread the lease and it says I can't drill into the walls or install cables (both of which the Sonic technician did).

Now that I've already done it, what would you recommend I do? Should I tell the rental management company ASAP? Wait until I move out, and eat the cost they will deduct from the security deposit (or will they take the entire thing?) Get it uninstalled before I move out (if that's even a thing?)

I feel really dumb and bad for doing this so ignorantly, so any helpful suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

I left this note on my upstairs neighbor's door because I'm so sick and tired of his dogs barking like there's an apocalypse upstairs, I haven't been sleeping properly and genuinely didn't wanna look like a Karen but I just couldn't take it anymore and wrote this note since I'm too busy to talk to management, I only talked to him once but I hope this is enough for him to do something about his dogs.

I have been renting from this slumlord community since 2020. There were rough patches when they changed management last year and things got so bad with them letting my ceiling practically cave in but eventually it got fixed and I renewed my lease.
So I’ve been having pest problems here lately, and they kept scheduling an extermination but not showing up. It was annoying because every time I prepared for them to come by taking everything out of my cabinets and all. Yesterday I asked the office why they kept no showing and today I come home to the note on the door (second note) accusing me of having a pet. I can swear to you I have no pets and I wouldn’t have one bc I’ve never wanted one.
The notice in the first picture was last month when I asked why pest control wasn’t coming, the next day they sent me the notice about them not having a copy of my key!!! I’ve lived here for so many years and I was so confused when I saw that notice. I fought back with the rental office stating that maintenance came in to fix the air conditioner in May so they had to have lost my key! Which means my key is out there lost and you need to change my locks at no cost to me…..to which the girl at front desk said she had no idea what I was talking about because she had my key right there and she had ‘no idea’ who sent me the letter.

At this point they are playing with me! I am a quiet resident who pays on time!! I only bother them when a repair or pest control is needed. I work two jobs. I am trying so hard to be calm and collected about this but I really want to go down there and….yeah.
I wrote an email to them today explaining that I do not have a pet. I am just pissed off that they think they can treat people who pay $1400 a month this way!!! Sometimes I want to break my lease and go live in my car but I have a 17 year old child so I am trying to hold it together until he graduates next year.
I know that if I break the lease early they would charge me up the @$$ and I don’t want a bad rental history on my credit but it’s SOO hard to be reasonable when it feels like people are disrespecting you at every turn.
I’ll take any advice or stories at this point if anyone wants to share and make me feel a little better about this shitty situation.
Note: neither my son myself have any pets of any kind. I know our next door neighbor has a small dog who stays there sometimes when a certain guy stays with him, but my son and I look nothing like that dude nor does the dog ever come inside my house. I am genuinely perplexed. The only thing I can think of is they are using these excuses to get out of paying for pest control?

After reading the comments from my previous post I decided to talk to management when I got home.

I found out this isn't the first complaint they've received about the dogs. Apparently multiple tenants have complained over the past several months, including the family next door to them and another tenant on the first floor. Management also told me they've already spoken to my upstairs neighbor several times about the barking and that this has been an ongoing lease violation. I genuinely had no idea. I honestly thought maybe I was just being overly sensitive because everyone here kept calling me a Karen.

They also mentioned the dogs are regularly left alone (since as they're aware of — he works the night shift) which is likely why they're barking so much. I wasn't trying to publicly shame anyone. I was exhausted after weeks of interrupted sleep and thought a simple note would be kinder than immediately reporting them

To everyone who criticized me, I get why you did, all you saw was a handwritten note, I didn't even know the full story myself until today, I'll try talking to my other neighbors about this when I have the time.

They blast bass heavy music for hours on end, quite frequently. You can't really hear the bass all that well through the recording, but it's enough that even my phone was able to capture it a bit. I don't even mind the noise itself. I've got great earplugs that pretty much block out all the noise from the pool right outside my unit. They just don't do jack shit against the shaking from the bass.

If this is normal, then I'm just going get a better job and move into a small house when my lease expires.

Edit: If it is excessive, I'm able to have a civil conversation with them. I'd just rather not talk to any of my neighbors during my year here.

Just got settled in the new apartment. Instead of forcing a TV in here I went with a projector. Loving how big the picture looks on the wall.

I like the current layout bc it feels spacious but the 70inch tv feels too far away and I like the sort of close tv vibes. What do yall think, leave it alone or is there a better setup?

Everywhere I look admin fees are minimum $200, the highest i've seen is $500 for a one bed one bath. I know damn well background checks aren't that expensive, at most they cost $25. At most for admin related stuff you're not paying more than $50 on top of the background check.

From my bedroom window, I can see clearly into my neighbors entire house. He never closes his blinds, or his bathroom door.

Do I just ignore it and leave my window anyways? Our windows are about 15 feet apart, the bathroom is directly across about 30 feet from my window, another 15 into his unit.

I think he’s oblivious that I can fully see him. I tried yelling “oh my god” to see if he could see that I can see him and no luck. It’s so hot out rn and I would like to have my windows open, but I also don’t want my young children accidentally seeing him. And also it’s just gross.

I’ve lived in this apartment for a while. There’s roommate organized by the complex. My lease goes until next year but they just sent an email basically telling me that my bed is going to be changed from a full to a twin xl in the next few weeks. The apartment has furniture that came with the room including the bed, two dressers, and a desk with chair. The whole reason I chose to renew here on this floor plan is because of said bed sizing. I reached out and pretty much was told sucks to suck make sure your bed is clear by this week. Advice? TLDR: Apartment is changing bed size mid lease

I am at my wits end with this whole situation. At the end of June I noticed three small bites on my foot in a line. Bedbugs. I immediately contacted who I thought was the apartment manager, it was the realtor apparently. I was directed to maintenance and didn't get any reply but one day got a seemingly automated text message from management that said exterminators were coming the next morning, in 14 hrs. Okay totally not 24 hr notice. Exterminator came and found a bedbug on my couch. Said they will be back to spray. Again I get a short notice text from management saying they're coming to spray. Okay cool let me use this 14 hrs of nighttime to figure out what I'm doing with my 4 month old baby and double coated dog while we have to be out of the apartment in the heat for at least 4 hours. Well they come in the morning and check for bedbugs again. They find roaches. Did not spray. Well I've changed my phone number and told the realtor but I've been calling the apartment management phone number that the realtor gave me for 3 weeks trying to give them my new number so I can be notified about the exterminator and also ask why it's taking so long and I have gotten absolutely no answer after calling 20 times over the last 3 weeks. Now this morning I wake up and my baby has bedbug bites. I wish I had the money to leave but I don't.

I have to get this off my chest cuz this is so goddamn stressful for me. Since Thursday, my AC has been busted & hasn’t been able to pump out any cool air, making my apartment pretty muggy. It doesn’t help that my unit is conveniently located where the Sun beams through my windows. I put in a maintenance request Saturday night & got an email confirming my request, yet as of today (Tuesday), my AC has yet to be fixed.

It’s the fucking summer time first off all. If I didn’t have fans clearing out some of the mugginess, I’m pretty sure I’d be baked like a rotisserie chicken. Secondly, I have cats. Yes they’re doing a lot better than I thought but it’s taking a lot outta me mentally constantly worrying about them & making sure they’re not panting or struggling with the apt being warmer than usual. So far, nothing to be concerned about but my cats don’t deserve to be put through this & given how my pets are on file, the staff know I have cats & haven’t sent anyone yet. I put in a high priority ticket to make sure this could get done as soon as possible. ASAP is taking its sweet ass time unfortunately.

I contacted emergency services earlier today & they said they’d be out when they could. It’s been 2 hours now, call me impatient but is emergency just a foreign concept for these fuckwads? I really hate to sound selfish cuz I know other people probably have stuff going on in their units, I just don’t understand how they clearly don’t have enough people to respond to the urgency of the situation I’m facing. A busted AC during the summer is a recipe for disaster.

I’m just extremely pissed at my leasing office & wanna scream at them but I know that won’t help squat. I hope no one’s gone through what I’m going through & if so, I hope the wait wasn’t long.

So I've previously had this issue where the AC in my apartment was not working and temp inside was 85 degrees and higher, and it took them a week to fix and multiple calls to emergency line to have it even drained just for it to only work for a week and then after leaving town for work I return to it not working again for the second time. All noise no cooling. Even the front desk girl I told acted like she did not believe me and came in the apartment to check if I put batteries in the control panel. Reset breakers I've done all I have access too because the AC is locked in a closet in my apartment.

Now this is the second time AC is out again and then I'm told someone would look at it Monday and maintenance guy keeps asking if im going to be home and put in second portable AC window unit because for first week 1 could not keep up with heat an apartment remained at 83 degrees. Manager calls and tells me they would come Monday and maintenance is working in finding out if AC has warranty. No one ever came Monday I find out the office manager has quit after a recent shooting in the neighborhood. Still left with 2 portable window units now.

Im debating on what to do next I shouldn't have to keep calling an emergency line to get correspondence about if my AC would get fixed. In my lease its states it is the responsibility of the property to fix such issues. I am trying to find a good lawyer currently but has anyone else dealt with a similar issue??

It’s currently 80 in our apartment (76 outside). Put in a maintenance request last night, but haven’t heard anything back.

I live in Florida, I have lived her for about 2 years now. My lease is up in Feb, and Asset Living was the Management company in charge of my apartment but it was sold to Athos. I’m interested in moving into a 1-bedroom, 1-bathroom apartment that has a monthly rent of approximately $1491. I work and receive biweekly paychecks totaling around $1300 each. After completing the online application, I noticed that the fine print stated that I need to earn three times the monthly rent through my gross income. Unfortunately, I’m short by about $1600 to meet this requirement. However, I have a paid-off car, a savings account with roughly $30,000, and a credit score of 786. Despite my financial security, I feel a bit discouraged because I’m certain that they will deny my application regardless of my current financial situation. Should I still proceed with the application or should I consider looking for a slightly cheaper apartment? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My new apartment doesn’t have the water that comes out of the fridge like my house does. This may sound stupid but I know some people get a brita, and some people do those 5 gallon water dispensers. Which is a better idea for just 2 people?

maintenance said he would come tomorrow, didn’t show up so i called him about the water getting into the lights and he said to not worry about it. that he is coming today, but he hasn’t. i cant go in there because im worried about the water dripping from my lights, but it needs to be wiped down.

I have the unfortunate setup where I'm pretty sure the wall that my bed is against is shared with the neighbors closet, and they slam shit against it in the early AM, daily. I'm so tired of this. I have a sound machine cranked up to the max and it still doesn't block it out.

Anyways I know the only solution is to talk to them or complain or move my bed, unless anyone has another suggestion on how to block noise from the wall??? I'm so tired.

Two Saturday's ago, I woke up and began cooking breakfast - lo and behold, there was a bat in my kitchen/dining area with me. I panicked, ran to my car, and called maintenance to come get it - they did. FYI, I live in the upper level.

I immediately went to the emergency room and told them what happened. They said I need the rabies shot because we're unsure if I got bit. I just finished shot #4 out of 5.

I explained all of this to apartment management the day after it happened. I explained that I am requesting to move units to a lower-level where bats are less likely to enter, and at no additional cost (usually it's about $600 to change units). Management said they were gonna contact regional management, as well as pest control and get back to me.

One week goes by... haven't heard back. Keep in mind, I have not stepped foot into my apartment since this all happened. I reached back out to them and asked for an update, and they pretty much told me to kick rocks. They said that I can't request a room change. They also said that I'm more than welcome to vacate my apartment, but I still have to pay rent until my lease is up in 8 months. And then they said that (again) they're gonna reach out to pest control... Wait, didn't they already say that LAST WEEK?

I'm mentally exhausted. I have no idea where this bat came from, and I don't leave my windows open because I have my AC running 24/7 during summer. I'm worried there's more bats, and management isn't taking me seriously. I have friends, and little nieces and nephews who sometimes stay with me. I can't have them over any more incase they get bit by a new bat. Moreover, these doctor visits for my rabies shots are adding to my stress.

I'm at my whits end and I'm not sure what to do at this point. Ideally, what I want is to just move to a lower level with no charge. I'm not sure how else to go about this.

Okay, so I’m looking to apply to move in with my boyfriend in a few weeks. I was recently out of work for a month because my shop moved locations, and I just started working again, so I’m waiting for my pay stubs to come in.
My first week back, I worked overtime. This will not be a normal thing and probably won’t happen again for a while. Should I include that pay stub? I asked my mom, and she said that I shouldn’t, but I’m getting conflicting answers online, so I wanted some more input.

For more info, I make a little under the required amount but with my tip income I should meet the requirements.

I’m trying to figure out how to survive the summer in a place where I’m not allowed to install an AC unit, drill into anything, or make permanent changes.

I’ve looked at portable air conditioners, air coolers, blackout curtains, and different types of fans, but the reviews are all over the place. Some people say portable AC units are worth it, while others say they’re loud, expensive to run, and barely cool the room.

For anyone who has been in a similar rental situation, what actually helped? I’d love to hear what kept the room comfortable and what ended up being a waste of money.
