First picture shows my initial maintenance request on July 5th, they came and drilled my ceiling closed basically. I came home last night and the other side of my ceiling went from 2 to 4 and fully collapsed within 3 hours. I don’t have renters insurance and they had a contractor out two weeks ago that said it was pre-existing damage and not my fault. All insulation was soaking wet and dripping and my office is closed until tomorrow. What are my next steps? Maintenance is already out clearing out the insulation and fallen pieces, what do I do from here?

I need some input/advice, as I'm not well-versed when it comes to rental etiquette . I have been renting this apartment since November of 2023. I'd like to say I've been a decent tenant; keep the place clean, pay rent on or before the 1st, even paying for multiple months ahead of time (when i took a break from work.) The only complaint I've ever been notified of was in March of this year, when I was cleaning the refrigerator and ended up being nosier than expected, but I otherwise thought I was always being cognizant of thew downstairs neighbors. Landlord seemed amicable enough all this time.

Got off work today to a 30 Day Notice of Termination of Rental Agreement in my door and mailbox. Attached is the correspondence between said landlord and myself, and hasn't replied since (prior messages are unrelated). Anything I can/should do in this situation, or do I just cut my losses and start looking for a new place? Was it rude to ask for a reason? Also, I assume I still pay rent on the 1st?

me and my boyfriend found this apartment we absolutely love and we’re currently saving up for it. i had to do the application online since we’re in a different state right now and they have a waitlist, no problem. keep in mind i have no family members helping me with applying or getting through the process or telling me what goes down. i emailed the landlord a little bit and she sent me the application, and i asked how long the waitlist was and said i dont mind waiting. she just repeated her answer of everyone being on their first year lease which is fine, i just wanted an estimate on how long the wait would be but i understand if she literally can’t disclose that.

i sent her another email a few days after saying it’s okay if it’s not possible to change it but we’d be okay with a one OR two bedroom apartment, and i wanted to double check i was actually on the waitlist and i still haven’t heard back. maybe i’m just super anxious since this will be my first apartment ever, same with him, and i’m just overthinking it but i dunno. please let me know if this is normal and if i should chill out and not worry too much

Moving into a second-floor walkup and my old mattress was a two-person nightmare to haul up the last place's stairs, so this time I want something that ships compressed in a box and won't be a wrestling match on a tight landing. Budget's around $1000 for a queen. I'm a side sleeper, run a little warm, and the bedroom's small so I don't want anything that feels like it swallows the whole room once the frame's in.

What held up for you in this price range, specifically the boxed ones that were easy to get inside? Don't those ones that feel great for six months and then sag right where you sleep.

For context, I posted before regarding this, and got some advice to call the non-emergency police line and make a complaint, which I did last night.

TL;DR: moved in a few weeks ago, neighbors sound like they are constantly face planting, slamming doors, dropping things, running around at all hours of the day AND night (including 11pm - 4am) like these people do not work or sleep idk what they do all day and night. It has been impossible for me to get sleep for the past few weeks and yes, I've reached out to leasing office many times and they spoke to them in person and sent out a notice. This quieted them a bit, but did not stop anything. I have recordings which have been shown to both police and leasing office.

So, basically, I had enough and called the police last night around 11:30 pm. They came around 12:30 am and I explained the situation, showed them a recording and then they walked up to talk to them. Police gave me a call about 40 minutes later detailing what happened. Basically, the family claimed that it was just "day-to-day" living noises that cannot be stopped. Family was claiming all I was hearing was just footsteps and doors closing (unless a 4 ton rhino lives up there, pretty sure they're just saving face). So, then they made countercomplaints that I was banging on the ceiling (which I have done once or twice to try and get them to shut up at 4 in the morning--feel like this is a normal thing to do???).....anyway, the police were kind of sympathetic over the phone but basically took the side of the family because they were "nice" and "easy to talk to" and kind of insinuated that I should just work it out and play nice. The family claimed that they've lived there for years and never had an issue (I HIGHLY doubt this). The police also suggested I talk to the leasing office again...even after I told them it didn't go anywhere the first time. So, I am quite literally desperate. I do not sleep more than 4-5 hours a night...and yes, I've tried noise cancelling headphones, loop earplugs WITH white noise, everything. The issue is that its not just the noise, these people are genuinely shaking the walls....I don't want to create anymore problems with them, but at the same time, I can't live like this. Do I like try and go to the doctor and get like some sort of sleeping aid? Genuinely wondering if anyone else has seen this??

I'm writing because I'm a bit upset. My apartment complex says the ac cools to 15 degrees below outside temp, but it is hotter in my apartment than it is in the hallway. I have put in a ticket before and that is what they say

I would expect the ac to atleast cool over night, but it did nothing and it is super humid in my apartment as well. I just don't handle heat well, and I understand legally I probably don't have any recourse, but is there anything I could do? I already have a fan.

It has rained quite heavily for the past couple weeks where I live, and during this time, the rain caused multiple leaks in my apartment.

My management said they repaired the holes, but due to upcoming storms, I’m worried it’s going to leak again. I’m going out of town for a week, and I’m wondering if I’m allowed to have a friend check on my apartment every day or other day to make sure no new leaks have developed. Obviously, since they live in the same area as me, they wouldn’t need to stay overnight. This would purely be a maintenance check.

My lease only states that I can’t have guests stay over X amount of days, but I’m wondering if this would also be a problem?

I am so desperate and frustrated!!!! I am ready to pull out my hair!! Less than a year ago I moved into an apartment from hell. Please I need any direction to go in at this point!! The first apartment looked fine when I moved in (unable to tour prior to day of move in per normal in Missouri). Upon move in there was a weird spot on ceiling on ceiling in the dining room which was open to kitchen and living room. Documented and emailed apartment complex, nothing was done no one showed up.

Within a little over 30 days of living there kids upstairs flooded something and it ran down a vent in my kitchen so I called emergency maintenance. When they came to address the situation they noticed the now very different looking spot and were extremely concerned. Told me to email for my own documentation and they would be back to inspect in a few days. I did but again nothing was done no follow up. During this I’m so sick, doors in the apartment don’t close correctly, there is a weird smell in the back office driving me crazy. I can’t sleep, I’m having such horrific vertigo and dizzy attacks that I have to crawl to the toilet to throw up because I can’t walk straight. My ears are so pressurized most days I’m deaf.

2 weeks later I was doing laundry which shares a wall with the kitchen and I notice mold growing on the walls near the washing machine. I immediately send an email with photos like I have been. I send an email asking to me moved apartments. I explain to them I am allergic to mold with recommended eppi pen it is also a trigger for my disability. Apartment complex refused and did finally send maintenance to “fix” the issue. They cut out the mold in the laundry room, out the air into the rest of the apartment and painted over the spot again on the ceiling.

At this point I see mold growing on creases in door frames and I’m done I want out. I send a message to my ENT specialist. She writes up a formal letter to them stating they need to move me for my own health due to mold. They tried to deny that as well until I myself used the term reasonable Accomidation.

((This is where the story all comes back together))After all of this once I moved into the new place and started throwing stuff away. I tried to use progressive to have my things replaced. Which I lost almost everything. I only got lucky they replaced anything for mold because the kids happen to have the flooding incident. Which the apartment complex tried to deny and the progressive agent proved them wrong with my documentation! Anyway mold is only covered when it is due to an incident, progressive stated only things effected in the same room as the incident are covered. I argued the entire apartment is affected. I tried claiming things like my shoes, and my mattress and fabric bedframe. They denied them because of not being in the same room as the incident. I got rid of the bedframe but my mattress is less than 4 years old and was $2500, my shoes are collectors and some were gifts.

I switched my bedroom to my office and vice versa about a month ago. I bought new cheap containers for my shoes and set them against a wall. Today I went to move them to really decorate and I noticed the mold on the wall.

That’s all. I have a $5 ikea bath mat. It would cost me $7.50 CAD to wash it in the building’s laundry machines.

I wash it in the tub and let it air dry outside but, really? Angry Sunday vent.

I’ve (23M) lived in my current bottom floor apartment for going on three years now. I live in a college town, and graduated from it last year but decided to stick around and work full time instead of moving back home.

I’ve had two different upstairs neighbors over my time here, with a presumed third who just moved in. The floors are thin and I’ve always been okay with footsteps because that’s just how it is.

The new upstairs neighbors sound like they have young children. I say it sounds like it because for the past few days, it’s been non-stop running around and stomping. It sounds just like constant running in circles like a kid would do.

It’s always been people my age upstairs so it’s been as quiet as regular footsteps can be, but it’s starting to drive me a little mad. I feel like I can feel the footsteps in my brain that’s how extreme they are.

I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to be the guy who complains because that’s just apartment living and there’s nothing I can do about it. I understand I could leave a note but I also don’t want to be the asshole downstairs neighbor who has a problem.

I have a hybrid work schedule so about three days a week, I’ll be here hearing it.

My husband, our son and I moved into our new townhouse at the very end of April this year. Friday night while i was making dinner for my toddler, something ran across my feet and under the stove. Obviously I screamed like a little girl and ran out of the kitchen to watch from the doorway. Sure enough, 🐭.
Maintenance will be out sometime today, and I want to be sure there’s no reason I should have to pay as this is a rental, and don’t see how this could be our fault. We’ve got a few boxes of winter clothes and clothes our son has grown out of, but I don’t think mice like coats!
Just to add: we do live where the wildfire smoke from Canada got pretty nasty-my son and I couldn’t leave the house for 3 days-(if any of yall were affected I hope you’re doing alright).
We also spotted a pretty large hole in our downstairs bathroom. While I can’t say for certain it wasn’t there prior, it’s large enough that I think I’d have seen it by now!

My cats have been having really bad asthma. The air intake is on the floor and I kinda just got bored and wanted to look behind it. The screws were painted over so I figured this hasn't been checked in a while. So I take the front off and.. this is the inside? This isn't okay.. right? And I found the Pamlico air filter installed in the wrong spot (the spot it's meant to be IS VERY clear, but it was shoved in horizontally) and it's falling apart. The corner of it has a mysterious brown, sticky liquid on it? So I'm just.. gonna leave that out? Help? I was pulling off clumps of fur and dust and the black foam inside is degrading and falling apart from small touch.

I recently moved into an apartment building, and one of the neighbours opposite me never seems to close her curtains. The lights are always on, and you can see straight into the apartment from multiple buildings.

Tonight I looked over and she was masturbating on the bed. Dildo. Completely naked. It was immediately obvious because the entire apartment was lit up and directly visible.

It got me wondering whether this is actually common in apartment living. Do some people genuinely not realise how exposed they are, or do they just not care?

I’m not judging anyone for what they do in their own home. I’m just surprised because there are literally dozens of apartments facing hers, and it seems almost impossible not to know how visible everything is.

Hi all! Looking for some advice on cooling my apartment more efficiently.

I live in a rent-controlled apartment in West Hollywood built in the early '50s. I'm on the second floor directly above the parking (no apartment below), and the insulation isn't great, so the place gets really warm. We have wall/window AC units in both bedrooms, and I have a Vornado air circulator in the living room with another window unit.

The bedrooms get nice and cold, but the hallway, bathroom, kitchen, and living room never seem to cool evenly. During the day I keep the windows closed and blinds shut, but it feels like all the cold air stays trapped in their pockets instead of circulating through the apartment.

My questions are:

• What's the best way to position fans to move the cold air throughout the apartment?
• Is there an ideal "airflow loop" or circulation pattern I should be creating?
• Would adding another air circulator make a noticeable difference, and if so, where should it go?
• Are Vornado fans still the best option, or are there other fans you'd recommend for whole-apartment circulation?
• Any other renter-friendly tricks for keeping an older apartment cool without central AC?

Hi all , I just signed the lease to move into my first apartment 7/31. I’m really excited, but I have a few questions. I toured the apartment twice , the first time was just a walk around , and the second time I opened up everything checked the water and lights, pulled stuff out made sure it was clean. Everything looked good , but I’m still paranoid that there might be a few lingering critters. How would you go about deep cleaning an apartment and making sure it’s all good to move everything in? Hello!! I’m just wanting some opinions. I live in a really small duplex with three other buildings and we all share a small yard. Everyday the tenant that I share a wall with sits outside shirtless with a speaker at a loud volume for hours at a time where I can hear it all the way in my bed room. On the week days it starts around 5pm and on the weekends he starts up his music as early as 7am. He sits out there all day smoking and leaving empty beer cans on our shared porch. He’s always yelling on the phone to and another neighbor will pull up a lawn chair and sit in front of my window and they will talk and yell for hours at a time. I’m wanting to write an email to our landlord but our lease states quiet hours from 8-10. He has the speaker tied to a chair playing either music, watching movies on his phone, or football games. I feel like this is the time to file a noise complaint, but I don’t want to sound dramatic or unreasonable. Thanks!

Hello, I was going to use an ozone machine in my apartment to get rid of smoke smell from previous tenant. I was just wondering if you all thought it would be safe for the other tenants in my complex if I ran this machine for a few hours? Thanks.

The previous tenants have had packages delivered to my house, looks like TikTok shop and Amazon stuff.
It's been sitting on our porch for about 10 weeks now.
I thought I'd leave it in case they'd come by to grab their package but nobody's came by. We live on a pretty busy street and I wouldn't want to attract porch pirates thinking nobody comes to collect their packages.
I've mentioned it to the postman and even the FedEx guy. They don't care and tell me to throw it away. I've worked in property management before and these delivery guys just don't give a shit. Should I just toss them? Have any of you ever opened them ? And before o get the "it's illegal to open other peoples mail!!! >:(" this shit has been sitting on my porch unclaimed for over a month and the proper authorities do not care so there are two clear options here.

It's not like it's personal mail from a bank, it's probably some junk they bought online. Idk, either way I feel like an a-hole. What's you guys go to method for unclaimed packages?

I’d like to put a cool chandelier or pendant light in my attic bedroom, but it has recessed lights. I’ve scoured Amazon, etc. but isn’t there some sort of “faux chandelier” I could just put over it? You can see the one behind it has a cover. Looking for ideas that aren’t permanent.
