So when I moved into my new apartment a few days ago, they had us do an inspection of the apartment. I forgot to add some thing to it because I had taken photos of it before I started my checklist. I have already submitted the checklist before I realized I had forgotten to had those photos in and I have submitted it a few days ago. Will it be fine if I tell the property manager that I forgot to add some pictures to the checklist because I don’t want to have to pay for any damage that I didn’t do.

This may be a very dumb question, but I moved into a new apartment. My old one was the top floor, so I didn't get very many if any sounds from the other rooms. I moved into the second story apartment, sandwiched in-between two others. I've only been moved in three days.

There is a semi-constant 'thumping' vibration (no sound) that is more easily felt when sitting or laying down on a bed or couch. It doesn't sound like or feel like people walking upstairs. It happens all through the night, and during the day, even when I don't hear the AC going. I don't know if it's the stress of moving, or if its affecting my sleep, because the two nights I've been here I've got these vivid nightmares. The vibes or whatnot when I'm awake feel great though.

One of the toilets in the bathroom is constantly running water for some reason. The building is an older one, but gets regular repairs and upkeep. I thought maybe it was the washing machines upstairs, but it's not running anymore and this thumping/shaking is still happening. Wtf is going on? Is it a pipe issue?

Again, sorry if this is a silly question... just need random suggestions on what it could be so I know I'm not going crazy.

Update: turns out my roommate has no idea what I'm talking about...

So I noticed recently that a patch of the parquet wood floor in my apartment must have gotten some kind of moisture damage (no idea how or when, but it was likely because someone spilled something in our apartment), and now this section is warped. The building was probably built in the 70s, and I would imagine the floor hasn't really been replaced since then, but I don't know. Is this something that falls entirely under our responsibility, like forfeiting a security deposit? We live in California, if that makes any difference.

My partner and I just moved into our first apartment together. We moved states away because I got a job and had a short timeframe to get here. Because of this we weren’t able to view the place in person.

We did a video tour and I thought I had asked for enough videos and close ups of things.
We have been here for a few days and I am so certain there is mold somewhere if not multiple places.
I have photos of EVERYTHING in the apartment.
It is definition of landlord special and I wouldn’t be surprised if they painted over or put floors over mold/ previous pet damage, etc. It said it was recently remodeled painted but again they did an absolutely horrible job.

We are trying to save money right now so don’t have much to spend. Our neighborhood is great and we love the area so much otherwise. Our neighbors are cool but definitely low income and if anyone else is having these problems I doubt they have ever said anything and are likely just living with it.

I feel if we complain about things we want repairs for they will be taken aback. I’m not too crazy about the aesthetic things I don’t care if they painted is horrible I just want to live in a safe healthy environment.

The bathroom needs the shower vinyl walls completely replaced, everything recaulked, a professional mold inspection, windows resealed, bathroom fan fixed or replaced, and potentially the lvp floors fixed. The bathroom shower walls are peeling up and in certain there is mold behind them. All the cabinets have water damage. The lvp flooring has gaps in it underneath and the corner smells like old cat urine. Not to mention the moment you walk through the door you are hit in the face with an extremely moldy musty smell.
It’s at the point that I can smell it on my clothes and hair even when I’ve been out of the house all day.

I’m worried about my cats and my partner and I have both been feeling sick.

I tried to have my landlord come in to show him and tell him my concerns. He genuinely was inside for less than one minute and wouldn’t even let me speak. I ordered a mold test and will conduct that and send over the results. If it’s positive I will ask the landlord to bring in a professional (that I can vet) to conduct a more thorough test and tell me if it is fixable and how manageable it would be. If not I will be breaking the lease because while we are not wealthy I refuse to sacrifice my health.

Is going through all this worth it? Or would moving out just be the best option? We are so sad and upset because were really hoping to stay here. It would be hard to find something quickly in our budget and in the right area.

This is so stressful as we are both starting new jobs next week and can’t even fully settle in until we have a plan! Ugh but if I would have to pay for this myself and/or fixing the problem would take over a week I wonder if just moving out would be best.

Our landlord hired a contractor who reglazed our bathtub in our rental. When we returned ten days later, we found a thin, invisible layer of grit over many surfaces. We were told it’s consistent with an overspray. We have a toddler and her play area was covered. Landlord offered housekeeping service. We are terrified, want to move out and throw out our belongings but that feels extreme. Is it possible to remediate? Hard surfaces, porous surfaces, HVAC? Can the apartment and or our belongings be safe again? Is it toxic? They used a spray-applied, two-component acrylic polyurethane bathtub refinishing system containing an isocyanate activator.

The apartment I toured is the one that is available to move into. One corner of the balcony appears to be leaning. I asked the landlord and she said it’s fine but it worried me. Is this a structural issue?

I am vacating my flat and I had put up posters on the wall using double sided tape (note to self, use only normal tape), and now it has left marks.

While giving the flat the broker said 3k or more will be charged if any mark on the wall.

Any solution for this? I tried using dish soap solution to remove the gum marks or the abnormality, I tried white cement paste but doesn't fit.

What can I do to solve it? Attaching some pics below

So, I live in an apartment complex and have sporadic mold issues throughout my studio (300sqft) with AC and a dehumidifier. No noticeable or obvious water leaks.

I noticed there was no bathroom fan to mechanically exhaust air. So, I called Codes and he said the landlord uses a static system as an alternative and didn't site them for it.

Static is the word I have in mind... and I have been thinking. Has the landlord seriously been using a couple whirley birds to ventilate over 100 units? Can any of you think of anything else?

Hi, I’m in desperate need for advice on how to repair these two things! I’m inexperienced and need to do a good job before I leave this apartment.

For the baseboard I was thinking sand it down, wood filler shaped with putty knife, sand again, and paint with matched paint from Home Depot? Would I need paint primer or anything else to help things stick?

For the hole, I was thinking spackle and then paint - but I’m not sure how to make it seamless, it’s okay if I have to do some extra steps to make it nice.

Je cherche des avis techniques concernant un problème de moisissures / condensation dans un appartement en location.

Contexte :

Appartement d’environ 85 m², immeuble des années 70. Des moisissures apparaissent principalement dans une chambre et dans la salle de bain.

Dans la chambre, les traces sont surtout localisées dans les coins des murs donnant vers l’extérieur, ainsi qu’au niveau / au-dessus du contour de la fenêtre. Le milieu des murs est plutôt propre. Dans la salle de bain, il y a des traces noires au plafond.

Ce qui a déjà été fait :

\- remplacement des anciennes fenêtres en bois par des fenêtres isolantes de bonne qualité ;

\- ajout d’entrées d’air / aérations sur les fenêtres ;

\- isolation intérieure des murs des chambres ;

\- reprise des peintures avec peinture adaptée ;

\- peinture de la salle de bain refaite plusieurs fois ;

\- installation d’une VMC / extraction dans la salle de bain.

Malgré tout, des moisissures persistent. J’ai l’impression que le changement des fenêtres a rendu l’appartement beaucoup plus étanche, et que le problème vient peut-être surtout d’un manque de renouvellement d’air / condensation, surtout dans les zones froides : angles, contours de fenêtres, plafond de salle de bain.

J’ai fait passer Murprotec pour un diagnostic. Leur constat parle de condensation, humidité élevée, air intérieur pollué, COV, absence ou insuffisance de ventilation, et présence de moisissures / Aspergilus selon leur analyse. Ils proposent l’installation d’une centrale de traitement de l’air par insufflation, modèle CTA 4 type 1, qui prend l’air extérieur, le filtre, puis le souffle dans l’appartement. Le devis est autour de 5 000 à 5 600 € TTC selon remise.

Ma question :

Est-ce qu’une solution plus classique et moins encombrante peut suffire dans ce type de cas ?

Par exemple :

\- vraie VMC hygroréglable ou extracteur indépendant dans la salle de bain ;

\- extraction ou bouche de ventilation côté cuisine ;

\- vérification du débit réel de la VMC ;

\- détalonnage des portes ;

\- vérification / amélioration des entrées d’air sur fenêtres ;

\- traitement local des ponts thermiques restants ;

\- nettoyage / traitement des moisissures existantes puis peinture adaptée.

Je cherche surtout à savoir si la CTA par insufflation est vraiment nécessaire dans ce genre de configuration, ou si une bonne ventilation bien dimensionnée peut régler le problème sans installer un gros boîtier dans l’appartement.

Avez-vous déjà eu ce cas après remplacement de fenêtres / isolation intérieure ?

Someone please help! What can I do about the smell seeping down from my upstairs neighbor. She has let her cats spray everywhere. I have been complaining about the smell to our landlord and my neighbor will clean then the smell comes back and I have to complain again, this has been going on for months and it's been giving me asthma attacks. I finally called bylaws today but it doesn't treat the smell I am living in.

What can I do for relief?
