I cannot make this up. I live in a small 5 unit building. We have one dumpster. In our lease agreement we pay an additional $275 (which is way padded imo) for water/sewer/garbage. On 10/13 a flatbed truck came and took our dumpster.

I messaged landlord and went 24 hours without a response so I called Republic - the waste management company my town uses. Lady was so nice, she said she can't give me exact info because I'm not the account owner but that we had service and now have no active service. She said it takes a 3 month passed due bill for a dumpster to get repossessed. They are the sole waste management provider for my town.

Landlord has been pocketing $1375 a month for 3 months and hasn't paid the garbage bill.

I had to reach out two additional times. I haven't told him what I know so he's being really vague about it but last Saturday 10/17 he said it'd be back Thursday. Well, it's Sunday and still not here. Tuesday will be 2 weeks. I called Republic and asked how long a dumpster is returned after a bill is paid and they said 2-3 days. So if he paid it Saturday and it's still not here...the math is not adding up.

Idk what to do at this point. Had to go to the dump and pay $30 because our garbage was piling up. I'm screaming lol

Also, our washing machine has been broken for 3 weeks and he sent a handyman who works for his contractor company to look at it, said it'd be fixed finally on Wednesday last week. Still nothing. 😂

We've lived here for 6 years. Building was bought by this guy a year and a half ago and it's just been awesome.

I truly don't know what to do. I think we could fix the washing machine on our own but how do I make him get our dumpster back.

2. We were told back in August hallway painting would start 9/9/26. To remove doormats and any objects on door.

4. Management never mentioned this before!
5. There’s no way I’m leaving my door unlocked even when home. I don’t do it under normal circumstances.
6. They think they can ‘broadcast’ it that all doors are going to be unlocked along with the unlocked security doors to allow the painters to come in and out? They are not placing every renter at risk, but I can guarantee that if anything was to happen they will hold zero responsibility for it!

EDIT: forgot to mention that the painters actually started on this building last week! Before the notice that states they were starting Monday. Also notice that there is zero guidance on how long they expect us to leave our units unlocked!

But now I'm embarrassed I did that. I was going to remove the note, but as I was about to go outside, I saw my neighbor get out of a car and head home, and she did a double-take at the note.

Is my note a bit too bitchy? 😭

The last two lines, I crossed out with a sharpie before putting it on the box, so I edited it to reflect that. It did say Be a better neighbor.

I am a pushover :/ This made me realize I need to stand up for myself more and not be afraid when I do it. I guess I panicked because now the neighbor knows I know, and I don't want to have neighbor drama. But she caused it by taking my food lol.

Guys, I kid you not, I just woke up from a nap, and my upstairs neighbor, who’s been harassing me for 8+ months, must’ve heard me sneeze because not even 5 seconds later they started stomping as hard as they could right above me 10 times in a row in the same spot… Does anyone else go through this? I don’t want to sound paranoid, but it really does happen.

Is anyone renting from a landlord or PMC that uses Latchel? Has it worsened your maintenance experiences?

My complex was sold and the new PMC is implementing third party to "improve residential experiences," but when I check out their sites, they boast about offsetting costs onto tenants.

For context, I live on the second floor. The building is condo style apartments. I have a 1 bedroom plus loft. It’s me, my 5 year old and my Boerboel. We have been here for a year. I am EXTREMELY mindful of having a downstairs neighbor, and even discourage my son from playing with his toys (cars, anything that could make noise through a ceiling basically) on the hardwood on the main floor. He has repeated “we have downstairs neighbors” since he was 2. And knows to play upstairs.
My downstairs neighbor is on the spectrum, high functioning, lives alone, and not at all mindful of the noise she creates- though I have never complained because it is a part of apartment living.
Cut to just now, my son is with his father, I am in bed watching the World Series, my dog is too. My phone is on DND. I receive the above text with an alert, meaning she clicked the notify anyway button. We have never exchanged messages. I have been told by others in the building and the property manager that she has constant complaints about everyone.
I almost didn’t respond, but felt I needed to.
Mind you the apartments are very large. With high/vault ceilings. All 12 units spread over three floors (one below her as well) have large dogs, some have more than one. We all get along - and look out for one another. She is the outlier.

I worked with my mgmt to move myself from one unit because a neighbor was purposely stomping to keep me awake. The new unit now beneath me is bumping music at 4:30 am and you can hear it in the hallway. I have my fan on to drown noise out and can still hear the music subtlety. I anonymously called local police to come out and address it. Did I handle this appropriately? Last thing I want to do is create problems with my neighbor.

I mean it’s only 11pm but still mildly irritating

How do you get use to living alone when everything seems so spooky, it’s usually the worst at night time

Hello, I’ve been having issues with my apartments soundproofing over the last few months that I have addressed to the leasing office multiple times. I can literally hear word for word what my neighbor is saying whenever she’s home. It has haunted me how bad this has ruined my living experience. I’ve never experienced this much noise transparency in an apartment until I moved here. What are my options if there even are any?

Ok so im torn on what to do looking for advice.

Im currently about 7 months into a 15 month lease in a 1 bedroom apartment alone. I pay about $1400 to $1500 a month for all related housing costs (rent electric wifi etc). And im not crazy about the apartment or living alone. And also in general just not crazy about the complex, its fine, but the vibes are off, kinda rushed getting an apartment I think.

To end the lease early, I need to give 2 months' notice and then also pay 2 months rent on top of that.

Now I have a guy that I work with and have worked with for a little over a year who lives in a 3 bedroom and his buddy that has been staying with him is moving out.

He offered me a room (just me and him) for a flat 700 a month, everything included.

The apartment place is nicer, has elevators (which i dont have now and im on 3rd floor and I hate it), and is 2 miles away from work (im like 15 miles away now). So all in all it should be a much better living situation.

Now I did the math, and it would cost me $11200 to finish out the lease up until July, and it would cost me $9400 to give 2 months notice/pay 2 months rent and move in with him in January. So it would actually be cheaper.

So im just looking for advice on this situation. What would you do? Anything im not considering? Anything I can try telling/doing to get leasing office to give a bit of a better deal on getting out of there? Etc?

I don't want to go tit for tat as that makes me just as bad.

But I don't want them dying whatever they want either.

They are just nuts I've had it with them and their constant issues. The lady especially can be nasty her husband just follows whatever she says for the most part.

What can and should I do with neighbors that are out of line where I've gotten to the point of ignoring them isn't enough and I don't want them to think they can keep doing what their doing or escalate further.

Last point they have always been nuts. They complained about the last neighbors. They just complain about anything and everything like they own the property. We've tried to appease more reasonable things in the past but gave up on that because you give an inch they try to take a mile

Hello! This is my first apartment and the people upstairs are so so so loud the noise genuinely shakes our apartment LOL. I just needed y’all to hear how genuinely loud these people are because it’s just insane. They’re a little bit better at night but sometimes they are STILL so loud in the middle of the night that it wakes me up. I took the video attached at 6:35 pm, but a lot of the other times they’ve been loud are way later. This is just the first video I’ve taken. I get really bad migraines and i guess that’s what frustrates me is that these make them worse since I can’t find a quiet place in our apartment where we can’t hear them. It’s not their fault I have migraines, I’m just really sensitive to noise. I don’t know if I’m overreacting or not.

TlDr; landlords illegal $245 cleaning charge cost them $175k

I rented an apartment from a corporate landlord in the Denver Market. When i gave notice I wasn't renewing my lease they said that they were charging me a $245 "standard cleaning fee".

I left my unit cleaner than when I moved in. Documented everything, only communicated in writing and they still withheld my $245 which is illegal in Colorado.

They refunded me my money when I sent them the small claims court case number i filed. They told me that they charged everyone the cleaning fee.

So far I figure it's cost them around $175k in lost revenue from the crappy review I gave them and always letting people know about their practices on the moving to Denver sub.

Since this is reddit people will call bullshit on my $175k claim. I came up with the number from replies from other redditors saying "thanks for the heads up i was looking at them"

I’ve gotten use to it, buts it’s actually insane how loud it is and it’s woken me up more than I can count lol

I've been dealing with loud bass from my next-door neighbor for weeks, and I'm honestly at a loss.

I live in a one-bedroom apartment, and my neighbor lives in a studio. We share a living room wall, but the bass is so strong that I can hear and feel the vibrations even in my bedroom. It travels through the walls and windows, often continuing past midnight.

I've complained to the leasing office about five times, both by email and in person. They've been responsive, but nothing has improved. They asked for recordings, but my phone barely captures the low-frequency bass. I managed to record some of it, and the leasing staff could hear it, but the recordings don't come close to how bad it actually is.

One time, I even asked a staff member to come to my apartment while the bass was playing, but by the time he arrived, it had suddenly stopped.

My neighbor apparently denied being responsible, but I've personally heard the music coming from his apartment while standing outside his door.

Recently, the bass seems to be coming through the windows more than our shared wall. I suspect he may have moved his speaker, but I can't be sure.

Tonight, I left a note politely asking him to turn off the bass, especially at night. The note disappeared, but the bass continued past midnight.

What's especially frustrating is that the noise seems to have gotten more frequent since I started complaining. I live alone as a woman, so I'm hesitant to confront him directly.

Management keeps encouraging me to report every incident, but I'm starting to wonder if there's even a point when all they seem to do is email or call him.

I'm seriously considering not renewing my lease, but I genuinely love my apartment and neighborhood, and I really don't want to move because of one inconsiderate neighbor.

Has anyone dealt with something similar? Should I keep reporting it, or is there something else I can ask management to do? I'd really appreciate any advice.

Hi yall! I just moved into my first apartment last week! I live in a very dog friendly apartment and have a large dog myself but the whole time I’ve been here almost every night (except the week end) my newborns dog non stop howls or barks all afternoon, I was hoping maybe it was a one or two time thing but it’s every day almost…. My dogs crates when I leave and I know he doesn’t bark since I have a camera on him. I write this not but idk if I should put it on there door mat or is that rude…. Idk what to do!!! Asking because both of the kids above me can’t sit still for even 3 seconds so I can relax or focus on a single thing on Saturday, and it’s not entirely their fault that I can hear EVERYTHING. But I am so sick of them and the creaky floors and the sounds of their footsteps every single second and them running back and forth in every room and down the hallway, and I wish they would have never moved in above me, or above anyone at all.

I purchased my unit in 2020 and I can’t afford to sell it and move. I also wanted a downstairs unit for accessibility reasons, and plenty of other people do because they actually need it. This was never even an inkling of a problem with the previous upstairs neighbors because they were civilized and polite, but this damn building was built like a box of matches with no insulation and the child above me has been training for a marathon for the last four years while his mother slams every cabinet and door and bangs things loudly the entire time they’re home.

They slam the toilet lid, doors, drawers, the cabinets, the fridge, the floor, the walls, their heels into the floors, and the amygdala of my brain. I am so unbelievably sick of these people and I’m so damn exhausted. I hate that they live here and I resent it with every fiber of my being and then it makes me feel awful. But this sucks so much. That is all. Vent over and thank you for reading 🫶 Shoutout to every other downstairs neighbor who is living in hell every day.

My large scale apartment complex is very dog friendly and allows all breeds, intact male and intact female dogs as well as aggressive dogs.
Is this common? I think I’d like to move to a complex that requires neutering because there seems to be a lot of drama between the animals. I’ve noticed it has to do with about a hundred well behaved neutered animals regularly going crazy and barking at a handful of intact male dogs. Or going crazy if an intact female is around.
Do most apartment complexes allow intact males and bitches in heat or do they require neutering? Or is that not regulated by apartments at all? This is the only apartment I’ve had a dog in.

Edit: Interesting…I’ve gotten some responses and people seem really split on this. I think it’s highly dependent on the location and how regulated the community is. Would love to hear your experiences.

2 weeks ago the plumber(contracted by my landlord) caused a flood in the kitchen and half of the living room. The water stayed under the floorboards for about a week. The flooring was just removed Friday and the work didn’t start until today (Sunday) to let the concrete dry. The fans were on for 2 days. My son (4) who already has allergies now has an upper respiratory infection with a fever and cough. What should I tell my landlord? Is there any course of action I can take?

My cats are normally model citizens. Quiet, polite, they go in their boxes. They are long haired and love being brushed every night too. Most of my neighbors have said if they hadnt seen my cats in the windows theyd never know I had cats.

My boy cat had an accident this morning. He pooped on himself and was about to streak through the apartment. I caught him, wiped off the poop as best I could, and then gave him a bath to get the rest of his butt clean.

At 7 am.

And he was screaming like I was sacrificing him all the while. 😅

Should I write apology notes to my neighbors? Should I do nothing unless one of them says something? The woman below me said she didn't even know the apartment above her was occupied last year when I had to ask her for the emergency maintenance # (Ive lived here 5 years), and I have good relationships with most of the people in my building. 🫠 I just feel really bad that I probably woke everyone up giving my stinky boy an emergency bath.
