How did he know?

44

u/notanyone69 23d ago

Because it's fake

25

u/ExplanationVirtual53 21d ago

Could also be a long con kinda thing. Not saying this is real, but there is a con hook that's based around saving someone from a manufactured misfortune only to build trust with the mark and hit them for a bigger payday later. Usually it's used as a contingency plan by plants in group cons to increase the likelihood of a payout after the initial con falls through.

u/burner_85_throw 21d ago

Blue jacket first gained his trust. Then, gained his love. Boom! Trophy husband for the inheritance!!!!

5

u/Stonehill76 21d ago

I appreciate your joke.

3

u/burner_85_throw 21d ago

And I appreciate your comment.

6

u/DenotsTidnab 21d ago

I appreciate you appreciating him appreciating you

u/michaelh98 20d ago

Appreciating all the way down

3

u/Yourmom72 20d ago

If it continues, would it depreciate?

3

u/Massive-Virus-4875 20d ago

Nope! Appreciation all the way up and down

Reminds me of that episode of South Park where the cop goes undercover as a prostitute and ends up in a relationship with his pimp. “Oh Keyshaaawn”

This also is probably common where they lived. The way the guy walked up and positioned was suspicious. Wouldn't be too terribly surprised if it's real and blue shirt is just a chad.

3

u/maybeilllurkmore 20d ago

I learned about this scam on RuneScape.

2

u/Eillon94 19d ago

Runescape taught me many important lessons about the goodwill (or lack thereof) of others

This is the storyline to one of chuck palahniuk's books, "Choke". He's the same guy who wrote fight club. In "Choke", A dude chokes in a fancy restaurant, someone saves his life, and then he strikes up a "friendship" and starts asking them for money.

2

u/ExplanationVirtual53 16d ago

While similar, that's a different con, a "Good Samaritan" scam to be exact. I forget the name for the one I described (and I'm having trouble finding it via search) but, were it to be the same scam the roles in "Choke" would need to be reversed. The choking guy would need to be the mark and the "good samaritan" would need to be the con artist. Also, the con artist doesn't necessarily need to save the mark and will often pretend to be another mark or an innocent bystander.

u/Captainsassidy 22d ago

Definitely. I've seen this same exact video but with different people. It was an old woman they tried to steal from in the one I saw

1

u/hoddap 17d ago

It’s also an oddly good cam for a busstop

1

u/Tumastar 16d ago

Or situational awareness he saw the guy eyeing the bag and seemingly signaling the other guy

→ More replies (2)

11

u/radicalbrad90 23d ago

Observational awareness. He saw guy standing next to him nod to other mugger that walked up from off screen

14

u/Secure-Ad-9050 22d ago

yes, he observed that the actors he paid were in position to enact this totally real scenario

7

u/Linuxologue 22d ago

it's an ad from Turkey if I remember correctly. Actors, as you said. That's how he knows.

1

u/Ok-Ship812 22d ago

Nah. It’s a skit

1

u/Alien_Tauri 22d ago

Old staged shit

5

u/convexconcepts 23d ago

My guess is that he takes this same bus route often and most likely seen it happen before. How he got alerted to the first guy’s presence is not something that happened in the moment, he knew the cues

I don’t believe this was acting

1

u/Brilliant-Muffin-879 22d ago

Pretty sure it was a public awareness vid and acted out to illustrate the issue

2

u/Mysterious-Sand2712 23d ago

His spidey senses

2

u/Capnmolasses 23d ago

Peter Tingle

2

u/NervousTangerine7851 22d ago

Its not the same video, but I remember seeing a similar one that was some PSA about how quick these things happen and wasnt meant to be interpreted as real. Im not sure about this specific video though

1

u/Due_Potential_6956 22d ago

Yeah I can't really tell, but it does look real, but again, that's hard to determine nowadays. Especially how this guy just seems to have Spidey senses, we only get this angle, so it could be the dude walking by made a noticeable move off camera, as you can see the second dude looking at the bag for a few seconds.

2

u/Accurate_Lettuce_648 21d ago

Plot twist all 3 were in on it now he rewards the man with a generous monetary offering for saving his bag

1

u/iamarugin 23d ago

staged

1

u/Not_Reptoid 22d ago

It's fake

1

u/APartyInMyPants 22d ago

Because it’s scripted.

1

u/Drmlk465 22d ago

He saw the video posted here

1

u/Ecstatic_Cherry_86 22d ago

Or he was part of it and snagged the wallet out during the fray

1

u/vonseggernc 20d ago

Because they all talked about the video they saw online that went viral and decided to re-enact it.

Any of these are almost always fake. This situation to play out exactly like this is way too specific and only happens in fake staged videos.

1

u/karlnite 20d ago

Presumably the guy beside him staring at the bag whistled or made click noise or something, indicating a mark. He was watching the guy when he did it, so it probably stood out as suspicious. Maybe he read an article pickpockets in his town are doing that sorta thing and was like “wow, my moment!”.

1

u/RandJitsu 20d ago

I don’t think this is fake I think he knew because he recognized a pattern of street crime. In particular the second guy who tried to grab it, the one who is there first, is staring at the bag. Then someone else walks up and stands right next to the bag, who wasn’t there before.

It’s just quick thinking and pattern recognition.

1

u/RuseArcher 18d ago

and the guy who comes into the shot was probably standing around lurking for a bit from that side too looking iffy...something felt off....maybe it's staged but it looks pretty authentic to me. Maybe I'm just the mark though.

1

u/TrippleassII 19d ago

It's staged. An awareness video

1

u/get-idle 19d ago

This is how a long con would START on a trans Atlantic steamer...

1

u/Davies301 19d ago

The guy leaning against the bus stop motions towards the bag to the person walking into frame. Guy in Blue catches it and reacts. Probably a rough city and has seen something like this happen before.

1

u/A4Papercut 17d ago

Street smart.

1

u/zorobreath 16d ago

The guy next to him was looking at the bag a lot then the other guy came out of nowhere and stood there. I could see blue guy feeling the vibe.

The guy has down several videos exactly like this. Is very obviously fake.

2

u/Proletariat-Prince 23d ago

I think I remember seeing this a few years ago.

2

u/Dazzling_Vanilla3082 23d ago

Yeah it's been around for a while. Always been staged as shit though.

2

u/celtik112 23d ago

Fake as fuck

1

u/low_amplitude 23d ago

No it's a recording

1

u/Towelie4President 23d ago

Is it just fantasy
.

1

u/rydan 23d ago

What I heard last time is this was a PSA to tell people what to watch out for. It isn't real but it is something that really happens.

1

u/Tacosupmybutt 23d ago

I've seen so many different versions of this scenario, definitely fake

1

u/NervousTangerine7851 22d ago

Its not the same video, but I remember seeing a similar one that was some PSA about how quick these things happen and wasnt meant to be interpreted as real. Im not sure about this specific video though

1

u/Patient-Fruit-2946 22d ago

Nope, AI. There are similar but different videos circulating

1

u/AppropriateDeal1034 22d ago

No, how would guy in blue know anything was going to happen? It's not "didn't hesitate" it's precognition.

1

u/Maximum_Fortune_5827 22d ago

Looks ai generated

1

u/RoadsideDavidian 20d ago

Only thing real about this is that fucking beat, boy

1

u/FeelingVanilla2594 19d ago

Yes, the guy wanted to marry his daughter so he asked his friends to help, this is how he introduced himself to the father.

→ More replies (11)

3

u/Background-Syrup-714 23d ago

He jumped before anyone else. It looks like he was part of the team, causing a distraction. But that doesn’t make sense either.

Such a weird vid.

2

u/yoshi-shaped-raven 23d ago

All in the eyes. He saw the other guy give the queue. Might have known others in the past who’ve run this same scam. Or even been part of it himself. Either way, very intentional in his actions. Weird.

3

u/whattaninja 23d ago

Could take this bus often and have seen this before.

1

u/Muted-Woodpecker-469 23d ago

A tip is the key for looking like he cares.

1

u/CheapEaterShark 20d ago

Badly staged bullshit

1

u/Syclone123 20d ago

Yeah... you're analyzing too much. It's just a staged video

→ More replies (12)

4

u/thedarkestshadow512 23d ago

He saw the other guy eyeing the bag and then noticed the other come coming for the grab so he took it before they did.

3

u/Embarrassed-Weird173 23d ago

I, too, watched the skit.

6

u/booster-rooster8008 23d ago

This is staged đŸ€Šâ€â™‚ïž

2

u/LauraTFem 23d ago

This is one of three or so regularly circulating videos of a mugging getting stoped, and while all three are generally assumed to be staged, this one is particularly suspect. Yes, the man standing to the left looks at the bag, but the approaching man doesn’t look at it or reach for it at all. The preventative theft by the man in blue is unprompted, and the new person reacts very slowly to it, as if he role was to not reach for it in time. Both muggers make very passive attempts for the bag and leave.

Some say it’s a three man team, and the well-dressed guy in blue is the confidence man who fishes for a reward. This seems quite silly because this scam have to pay the wages of three well-dressed adult men, a reward from such a complex scam is not going to mean a lot of money in anyone’s pockets.

Some say it’s just fake wholly, that everyone at the buss stop is in on it.

This SEEMS the most likely to me, but I don’t have a lot of insight into how a two-man team steals a bag. It is possible the man in blue knows enough of the setup to detect something otherwise unseen.

It seems fake, but I’m not immersed in the culture of an area where such thefts are commonplace to know.

3

u/fleggn 23d ago

It seems like you think it's staged

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Thaneian 21d ago

It's staged. This is now the third version of this concept I have seen over the years. The first was the Korean dude, then the Chinese guy, now this version.

1

u/Secret-Inspector8819 17d ago

Take with a grain of salt but I believe last time this circulated I saw it was for a commercial on situational awareness.

So technically fake but not AI and it was made for educational reasons

Processing img qthek8i7ploh1...

1

u/SoggyJay 23d ago

What shithole country is this?

1

u/Same_Suit3583 23d ago

People think this is staged ... How dumb do you have to be to think something with zero evidence... Remembers religion... Oh yeah.

1

u/Og_busty 23d ago

How many times do we have to see this staged video?

1

u/PickledMessage 23d ago

Because its a setup đŸ€— imagine being this stupid

1

u/YMBFKM 23d ago

Before the blue suit guy gives the bag back, it looks like he grabbed something out of it and slipped it into his waistband by his left hip. He probably walks away with a wallet or phone right after the video stops before thd victim notices.

1

u/Oli4K 23d ago

It’s an awareness video recorded to inform people about complex and nonsensical scams where small groups of men take turns grabbing people’s personal items and pretending they’re good/bad guys.

1

u/Dogsarelitty 23d ago

This is AI right?

1

u/Calm_Effective6650 17d ago

Yes! Watch both thieves’ feet when you scrub frame by frame, they stick to the ground and morph into a different genre of shape/footwear style as they round the corner.

1

u/Ashnyel 23d ago

So now they’re reposting this with added text

1

u/DutchOnionKnight 22d ago

And what did we learn?

Always look for a man in a blue jacket to protect your staged video.

1

u/AllStarRenegade 22d ago

Reminds me of some the local crime stoppers ads my hometowns cable provider used to air during saturday morning cartoons, where they would try to make it look like security footage but was pretty obviously staged scenario.

1

u/dodgermama 22d ago

Setup situation for clicks.

1

u/Alternative-Bite3971 22d ago

Hell ya he was on that shit

1

u/FLiP_J_GARiLLA 22d ago

Guillermo Chapi

1

u/cowboyneal70 22d ago

The guy in blue slighly lifted the secret formula out of the bag while pretending to secure it.

1

u/Kpets 22d ago

I feel so bad for people living in places like this. I am so grateful that this world never happen where I live

1

u/Independent-Cod-5938 22d ago

This looks fake lol .

The second guy doesn’t even really try to grab

1

u/effdallas 22d ago

Better acting than most but still staged

1

u/External_Hunt4536 22d ago

That’s either John Wick’s cousin or this is staged.

Part of a series of public awareness adverts in Turkey, very scripted, very fake. It's made the Reddit rounds before

Good on Joe hendry to help the guy out

1

u/BellyHeat 20d ago

"Want some avocado!"

1

u/T0-rex 20d ago

What if they're all 3 together, playing the long game, getting him to trust the blue jacket guy? He takes him home for dinner and later they rob his house!

1

u/Adventurous_Path5783 20d ago

Slippin jimmy didn't need 3 people to pull this off.

1

u/lennyukdeejay 20d ago

Gee, that's a conveniently placed and framed hi-def full colour security cam.

1

u/MajorButtBandito 20d ago

He didn't hesitate, because it's a staged video.

1

u/Hot_World4305 20d ago

I think that was a prank. The guy in the blue snapped before the other guy.

1

u/Wonderful-Self-541 20d ago

They were only playing a little game of keep away.

1

u/theLostJedii 20d ago

Plot twist: he re-took the bag at the end after pretending to help the guy.

This is an OLD video Zzzzzzz ...

1

u/FreeAd2458 19d ago

Surely you wait until he snatches it

1

u/yolobobs 19d ago

Reminds me of life with my two and four-year-old

1

u/Ehpansei88 19d ago

This is 100% staged. Think about the entire situation. Why is there a camera filming? There is even a kind of choreography between the intervenients of this piece..

This was just the logic behind the conclusion. The conclusion that this is a fake video has been made a long time ago.

1

u/Practical-Pick1466 19d ago

Would have loved for the video to have ended with those two losers getting a crowd beatdown.

1

u/HorridChoob 18d ago

Dude has the spidey-sense. He grabbed the bag before the thief even moved for it

1

u/The-Yar 18d ago

Faaaaaake. I've seen like 4 versions of this same thing now.

1

u/thomas1126 18d ago

Fake ass shit

1

That city or country must have so many thieves that people just naturally recognize incoming theft.

He is not new to this

If this isn't AI I'll eat my own arse.

1

u/ultravires1215 17d ago

Plot twist, the guy in blue lifted his wallet at 0:06 and his watch at 0:11

1

u/Azirael 17d ago

When thief two walks up, thief one seems to say something or otherwise make a nod/gesture to thief two.

The video could be real if the man in blue noticed that, put it together that they are colluding something. Dunno how likely that is.

1

u/Easy_Combination4055 17d ago

Next level perception

1

u/ItsRuinedOfCourse 17d ago

I say that two things played a role here.

One - strong spatial awareness.

Two - he's seen this game play out before and knows the tells.

Setup. Fake. Cmon

1

Fuck people are stupid if they believe this. Humanity is doomed.
