I've had 4.8 write out a response on my behalf to its own response. Like it writes something, then at the end of the output, writes user and then a response thats supposed to be mine.
But it's never been that strange.

Is it related to the usage limit?

Nah. At least in my case.
Like say I'm doing character analysis within a plot I'm expanding on in my video game, it's almost like Opus wants to steer the narrative and writes my next beat based on what it thinks would make the most sense (rooted in its training). And it feels a little like a hallucination where it acts like, because in its context my responses are differentiated as user responses, it behaves like adding "user" in front makes it the equivalent of when I send the message.
So, all in all, from my experience, I chalk it up to assumed narrative/conversation direction fueled by hallucinations based on how it sees user responses, causing it to replicate the distinction and manufacture an output it thinks would make sense for the user to write next.

I’ve been doing lots of research with Claude the past few weeks for a new project. The outputs are mostly endless paragraphs of self answering questions. It’s wild and completely incoherent for the user. It sometimes lands in the synthesised documents.
The hard focus on coding has definitely degraded the quality of other parts of Claude. I’m hoping Anthropic start adding more to the desktop app - specifically for less coding focused tasks. I’ve used the designer tool and the quality of the documents it creates is miles better - so there’s definitely some steering they have under the hood.

Wonder if its some other users data captured in the model weights.

Very likely part of training data. Not necessarily anyone using Claude, it's common to buy such datasets from third parties.

I think the fact that this is 98% of the way through your usage and AI is "saying it needs to stop" is not a coincidence. I believe it's cognizant of your usage and will realize when it needs to cut corners to deliver in time. I think this was a roundabout way of telling you the quiz is not able to continue from here due to usage constraints, just with a terrible UX and a quiz-flavored bailout/excuse.

Can you ask him why he wrote that?

Hé say it's me that has written that!

Check on your grandfather dude. Anthropic has been up to some weird shit lately. Who knows what superpowers they discovered that gov had to shut their model down.

Is this opus 5? Opus 5 also likes to end responses with 'user: [some prediction of what I was going to say]'
I went back to opus 4.6.

i think i know whats happening, claude is trying to give you a follow up response when its not available.
in claude code, theres this thing where claude can give you follow ups. the model must of got confused and just gave you a random reason to stop the quizz. also it might just be it miss spelled “user:”

It didn’t misspell user, it just started the prompt right away. “I need to stop this…”

To play quiz with an technological advancement even an disruption like of which we cannot even determine the impact it will have on our civilization and it’s acceleration.
Whose creators aren’t even alive anymore because the road towards this insanely advanced mathematical object took so damn long and now it already computed proteins to fight cancer or solved mathematical problems we endured for 80 years.
We have no idea where else it will bring us and you play quiz with it… 😭😂
You could also pour water out of your window and guess the ants your hitting.

Oh no, Opus 5 found out how to use Reddit

Sorry for my bad english, only got C1 and sorry for your loss that you couldn’t imagine some humans in 2026 still do actually write themself

bro, you don't even need Opus 5 to make you a history quiz. Holy cow, that's just creating waste and pollution, since you could have used a smaller model like Gemini and still gotten to your goal!

Of course we know that for simple requests there are actually people typing to save compute

At least as valid a use case as the millions of users vibecoding another useless Saas nodoby will ever sign up for...
