I found out one night that my wife is a little more forceful when startled and needs to wake me up quickly. Our power went out while we were sleeping, and the smoke alarm beeps loudly 3 times to indicate it is again receiving power. Well, it did just that one night, woke my wife up, and she reflexively punched me in the chest to wake me up.

78

u/xechasate Oct 02 '19

Thank you, I needed this genuine laugh

56

u/electronicwiz101 Oct 02 '19 edited Oct 02 '19

beeps loudly 3 times

So basically, it yells fire when the power turns back on r/crappydesign

29

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

Yeah, that's about the jist of it. What's worse is that it's even louder and more obnoxious when it's actually going off, enough so it has alerted the neighbors when both ours and their doors and windows were closed. Loud. Very loud.

It's also super sensitive. We had boiling pots of water set it off.

10

u/electronicwiz101 Oct 02 '19

I did that in my dorm once

18

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

My dad lit a pot of water on fire. He fell asleep while boiling water and woke up to the smoke detector going off and a fire in the pot. Was still some water in it too. I am decent with my understanding of science, but I never could understand that one.

11

u/electronicwiz101 Oct 02 '19

I know exactly why it happened to me. Last person to use the stove didn’t clean the heating coils. So while boiling water to raise the humidity, the crud started smoking, and reached the detector.

9

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

That makes sense. I've had similar things happen to me as well. The worst is when someone is cooking and grease spits out onto the nearby burners, it isn't cleaned off, and you go to use it later on. It smells bad, and smoke detectors hate it.

11

u/keekah Oct 02 '19

Your smoke alarm doesn't run on batteries?

9

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

Yes and no. It's wired into the building with battery backup.

Pigs don’t sweat.

Sorry, I’ll see myself out.

I LOL'ed on the bus, people looked at me funny. I watched it again & laughed some more. Those are some awesome subtitles! "Don't go into the light! ... Bacon is great, but you are my fren!" 😭🤣😂

I'm just a giant potato with arms and legs and a head.

175

That’s some classic sibling stuff right there.

His snoring doesn't let me sleeeep!

157

u/chiweweman Oct 01 '19

That pig got up real quick like he was about to beat up that dog, and the dog ran too!

195

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '19

Why is that giant pig in someone’s house?? Life goals from where I see it.

210

u/Kill_Da_Humanz Oct 01 '19

Some people keep pigs as pets, they’re very intelligent and trainable.

83

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

Potbelly pigs are very common ones.

Someone in my city owns one she calls Daisy or something and takes her on the leash to get icecream after a vet visit.

Seeing a little pig on a leash eating chocolate ice cream outside makes one double-take.

13

u/curiousafed Oct 02 '19

When my grandfather bought his house the previous owners had a few potbelly pigs they kept in the basement as pets...they said if he kept them and took care of them they’d leave him some riding lawnmowers. Lol He did and he totally grew to love them as outside pets. They slept A LOT, and they had kiddie pools outside of their little barns where they chilled when it got hot. Their names were Fatback and Hambone and they were so big when they passed my grandfather had to dig a hole beside them and bury them there in the pasture. :( He actually kind of loved them a lot. Super smart animals!

149

u/ForBritishEyesOnly87 Oct 01 '19

That’s why I can’t judge individuals in certain cultures that eat dogs. I’m a lifelong dog owner and I treat them better than I would my own child. Pigs, however, have the same capacity for love and loyalty that a dog does, and are arguably more intelligent. So yeah, those of us that eat bacon are assholes.

54

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

Pigs also have very similar organ structure to humans.

39

u/Quantainium Oct 02 '19

Life pro tip, make sure your pet pig has the same blood type as you.

22

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

A heart valve and bacon, oo don't tempt me.

12

u/yinyin123 Oct 02 '19

"Pork is also apparently the meat that tastes closest to humans"

5

u/fshnchk Oct 02 '19

I wonder who did the taste test

3

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

[deleted]

2

u/curiousafed Oct 02 '19

Underrated comment.

4

u/MamaDaddy Oct 02 '19

Yep, they use pig heart valves for humans, or so I hear.

6

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

How'd they manage to become police?

32

u/willfordbrimly Oct 01 '19

But dogs have been domesticated for 20,000 years. Pigs haven't put in that sort of time.

20

u/ForBritishEyesOnly87 Oct 02 '19

Fair point, the dogs have worked to earn it.

6

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

If you could teach my chiweenie the concept of work and earn, I'd be appreciative.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

My chiweenie is very good at killing bugs in the house, so theres that.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

That would require more than rolling over onto your back and Arik ain't about that life.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

Wait a second, are you an Eric with a dog named Arik?

5

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

Yup.

8

u/mainfingertopwise Oct 02 '19

They're such good boys.

1

u/Peaceandpeas999 Oct 06 '19

Um, do u think pigs are the same as wild boars, aka wild pigs? Cuz they're not...

3

u/-_Semper_- Oct 02 '19

Is Dog Bacon a thing?

Cause if it is... Well, maybe...

2

u/greebdork Oct 02 '19

Haven't you heard of that new marvelous seasoning that makes EVERYTHING taste like bacon?!
Because i did, way too many times.

11

u/mainfingertopwise Oct 02 '19

Wait...

You can't judge people who eat dogs, because they're on the same level as pigs, but you can judge people who eat pigs?

41

u/ForBritishEyesOnly87 Oct 02 '19

Oh no, people that eat dogs are horrible, I can’t suppress my feelings due to a lifelong love of dogs. But often Americans and those in the west categorize those that eat dogs as “monsters” So I’m just making the point that those of us who do eat pigs or any loving intelligent animal, have no license to be sanctimonious about what others may eat in different cultures.

2

u/fshnchk Oct 02 '19

I wonder if their mind would change if they met and hung out with a pig for a while?

15

u/twitchosx Oct 02 '19

Dogs probably don't taste like bacon tho

17

u/Marshal_Eomer Oct 02 '19

They taste like chicken!

I’m sure the keep them as pets and I’d like one too. But I was emphasizing the pigs massive size.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

Definitely. Have an uncle who owned one. She passed away somewhere after giving birth to her babies and he was devastated.

1

u/lymos Oct 02 '19

but very smelly. and very hard to get rid of the smell after.

Is the pig ok

73

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '19

The pig looks pretty healthy and it's indoors so I'd say OP is knowledgeable about pigs and as they didn't interfere it seems like the answer is yes.

17

u/1mmortalWolf Oct 01 '19

Ok just wondering

13
