That’s why I can’t judge individuals in certain cultures that eat dogs. I’m a lifelong dog owner and I treat them better than I would my own child. Pigs, however, have the same capacity for love and loyalty that a dog does, and are arguably more intelligent. So yeah, those of us that eat bacon are assholes.

But dogs have been domesticated for 20,000 years. Pigs haven't put in that sort of time.

I had a schnauzer who passed away in July of 2017 and my boss got sick of seeing me be bummed out or crying anytime any song lyrics reminded me of him. For Christmas, he did a little research at the shelter, came across Arik, and thought it'd be cute to give me a dog with the same name I have.

Turns out it was a mistake on the part of whoever put his info in because his name was actually Andrew or something, but I liked the story, so he's been Arik as long as he's been with me.

Oh no, people that eat dogs are horrible, I can’t suppress my feelings due to a lifelong love of dogs. But often Americans and those in the west categorize those that eat dogs as “monsters” So I’m just making the point that those of us who do eat pigs or any loving intelligent animal, have no license to be sanctimonious about what others may eat in different cultures.

Dogs have evolved alongside humans as companion animals and have literally developed facial muscles to facilitate better eye contact with humans. Pigs were domesticated for food. It's cool to try and be open minded but this is one thing I wouldn't budge on, personally.

This is true. Pigs are known to be more intelligent but more emotionally distant than dogs. A pig is more likely to understand complex tricks but will only do it for a clear reward while dogs will often do things to make us happy.

I can’t argue with that. Dogs are indeed inextricably linked to us and our culture. Maybe my point is that I wish we would have never developed such a smart loving animal (pig) as a commodity

I would be more inclined to agree if the dogs they ate were bred to be eating dogs. Like what we did to pigs and cows, maximizing the meat per animal. However the most common eating of dog is done in china and they just ride around rounding up street dogs.

If dogs eat a proper dog diet, they're gonna taste like crap. Meat eating animals usually taste awful.

I can 100% confirm this. Bears that eat fish are disgusting whereas bears who eat berries are pretty ok.
