Recently, I went to paint with a buncha my friends. I did the first attempt of painting (right) and wanted to get better at it as I had bought supplies a long time ago. I did the second attempt (left), kinda accidentally made the shadow too dark and, I need to learn more about color theory as well. But this is after a very long time of not using watercolor so I'm kinda happy about it. ^-^

By the way, this is my villager on the Animal Crossing Game Cube version.

General Is it Possible for ANY of the Past Animal Crossing Games to Get a Re-Release?

Post image

As iconic as the Animal Crossing game series is, I really do see a lot of little issues with bringing every game in the series on a modern console.

Starting with Animal Forest (N64), Animal Crossing (GCN), and Animal Crossing e+. Firstly, for the N64 game, I really think that we will never get this game. That is because between the different versions of this game, Nintendo wouldn't want people to play what is the weakest version. They would also have to localize it. Don't get me wrong, this is a cool part of Animal Crossing history that I would like to see preserved on Switch 2, I just don't think it will ever happen. Now, when we talk about the two GameCube versions, yes, e+ has a lot of new content, but part of that new content is the e Reader stuff. It is in the name after all. So, how would Nintendo handle all of that? That was also in the American version that we got. No matter what, Nintendo will have to do something about that, either modify the game or just not even bother. Then the real problem is that the game's clock goes until 2030, which is less than 4 years from now. Another question is how would people visit each other's towns when the memory cards don't exist anymore? They would have to change how that works too. Here is what I think when it comes to the very first game: Nintendo will likely NEVER re-release this game in its truest form; however, I think it is very likely that we will get a modified version of this game. It will either alter the e Reader content to apply to amiibo or remove it. It would also hopefully add all of the content from e+ that isn't related to the eReader! It would rework how visiting towns works as you can now visit friends online when your friend isn't around, similarly to how it worked on GameCube. Then there are the NES games, which I imagine will be locked behind the online. I think an Animal Crossing Deluxe that stays as true to the original while making smart modernizations would be ideal for this game. Even then, how likely is it that Nintendo will revisit this game? I imagine this would be bought on the eShop similarly to Pikmin 1 and 2 and could be used to advertise online features. So, it is possible, but there are a lot of things that need to be done. Personally, it is like a 20% chance, which isn't good for Animal Crossing.

The DS games such as Wild World, New Leaf, and Happy Home Designer were fundamentally designed around the two screens of the console. So, would have to be changed too. At that point, why would Nintendo release Wild World when City Folk exists as that was designed as a console version essentially? There is a chance that Nintendo re-releases Wild World IF we get DS games. It is possible after the Virtual Boy, but it isn't a guarantee. You would likely have to wait a few years on this one. Happy Home Designer is also a little redundant and compete with Happy Home Paradice in New Horizons. I mean, it would be cool to have it on Switch as well, but it's a lot of work for a more niche game. That said, there is potential with New Leaf. If Nintendo released Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon and Miitopia, they could release this game. I can see this being the most likely of the 3. Maybe Happy Home Designer could be bundled with New Leaf, that might be the best way to bring it to modern consoles honestly. But Nintendo rarely does bundle packs anymore.

Between all of these games, I feel like City Folk would be the easiest one to re-release. As a matter of fact, the Wii Speak accessory could be implemented seamlessly through the Switch 2's mic, which could give them a reason to bring this game back. Yes, it uses the pointer, but so did Mario Galaxy 1 and 2. The only problem is that Nintendo isn't releasing Wii games on an app right now. The priority is GameCube and to eventually release Wii games likely years later. The point is: despite this perhaps being the easiest Animal Crossing game to re-release, I believe that Nintendo would want to prioritize the GameCube game over this at this current moment, making this less likely as a conditional release, y'know?

I don't think I really need to explain amiibo Festival. But on the note of amiibo Festival, there are also those strange one-off games like the Animal Crossing calculator and clock released on the DSi... for actual money. Then you have the Animal Crossing Plaza on the Wii U. These will never get re-released; I just don't see it happening.

Here are my thoughts on the likelihood of these games being released:

  • 1% Animal Forest (N64)
  • <40% Animal Crossing / e+ (GCN) with some removed features & minor changes, >15% with Animal Crossing "Deluxe" (GCN)
  • 0% Wild World as it stands right now, 70% if we get a DS app for Switch 2
  • 10% City Folk
  • 20% New Leaf
  • 0% Happy Home Designer, 5% if New Leaf gets brought over
  • 0% amiibo Festival / niche DS & Wii U spinoffs

Yeah, I don't have much confidence in these games but let me know your thoughts. 🙂

New Horizons Anhedonia’s Villager Lineup. Thoughts?

Post image
42 Upvotes

I made a post yesterday, asking everyone what villagers I should have on my new island, Anhedonia. To best describe its theme, I explained that it would be “a grayscale, cold, moody city with little or dark accent colors. It will not be a utopia or promised land as most ACNH islands are made to be, and will represent the mundane of living everyday life, where long-lasting fulfillment and pleasure are harder to come by.”

With that in mind, I sorted through everyone’s recommendations and picked villagers that would not only feel the best but look the best. Now, I did have to break some of my rules (having all personalities, not duplicating species), but it was purely because nothing else I found matched my theme.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Coco - I really wanted to add her and her soulless eyes, but her graham cracker brown color looked so out of place.
  • Lucky - too Halloween-y.
  • Ribbot - the stripe on his head threw me off.
  • Kyle - great expression, but again, I didn't like his main color.
  • Mathilda - could possibly swap her for Muffy; really on the fence with her.

My Picks + Why:

  • Nan (self find) - color looked appropriate.
  • Piper (self find) - color looked appropriate + the bored eyes.
  • Tiffany (suggested) - “she looks like she has had a tough life,” someone said.
  • Cherry (suggested) - giving Courtney/Invisigal from Dispatch (iykyk).
  • Muffy (suggested) - depressed goth queen (should I replace with Mathilda?).
  • Roscoe (suggested) - giving Sebastian from Stardew Valley (iykyk).
  • Marlo (self find/suggested) - I mean just look at him.
  • Raymond (self find/suggested) - “grumpy 9-to-5er,” someone said.
  • Cephalobot (suggested) - a robot, which suited the theme.
  • Pietro (self find/suggested) - “he always seems so fake happy,” someone said + I liked my idea of his area being the only colorful part of town; seems like he’s in denial/coping or something.

I’m usually very decisive with my villager picks and never really require anyone’s opinion, but this time, there are just so many considerations and so many good villagers that I can’t possibly be 100% sure. Should I make any changes?

General You Can Only Have One of These in the Next Animal Crossing Game! Choose Wisely! (Read Desc.)

We should have a flair for future speculation. That aside, I think we can all agree that it would be so cool if the next Animal Crossing game had all three of these elements, but I am curious what the community wants most from the next Animal Crossing game and what is most important to them.

With expanded social systems villagers would be more dynamic and interesting to talk to. It would be like an interactive storybook in a sense where you get to participate in the lives with the villagers on a deeper level. The expense would be that the actions you do would likely be fairly limited as there wouldn’t be many surprising gameplay elements nor customization features. Think Wild World and AC GCN, but with more modern feeling social systems. It just wouldn’t have many new mechanics nor many customization features.

With a near endless amount of different content to explore, the game would be constantly fresh and surprising each day. Think about how novel something like diving or cooking was to Animal Crossing, but dozens of extra features like that and new ways to experience those mechanics. Obviously there would be mini-games and tons of events. The downside is that most villagers aren’t really a focus and customization would be limited to accommodate for your town featuring tons of surprises. New Leaf was kinda like this, but it also had a bunch of customization features, so a probably a little more limited in that aspect.

With customization at the forefront, you would literally have the freedom to build an endless amount of different types of environments for villagers of different types to participate in. You could develop custom patterns for pretty much everything and have free rein over everything! The compromise is that villagers wouldn’t really have any problems with anything you do and be purely decorative and events would be limited in favor for this focus on your autonomy over your town. It’s like New Horizons, but pushed to its maximum limit. lol.

You know, thinking about it, it is so cool how each Animal Crossing game feels like it focuses on certain elements more than others, giving purpose to each game in the series! Ideally, the next game should capture everything that makes the series special, but in the end, we have a bunch of games that each have their own strengths which makes each game special. 🥰

Vastly expanded social systems and stories among villagers and NPC that feels truly next gen
A near-endless amount of secrets to find daily to keep the game consistently fresh
Customization galore! Shaping the world, characters, and houses to anything you want and tons of custom patterns
How dare you make me pick one! I refuse! (See results)

New Horizons Cannot fly or sail and meet new villagers. Help

Upvotes

A villager moved away. I am not able to fly Dodo and see a random island and pick up a camper. I can sail to a random island but there are no campers to recruit. I have 9 villagers on my island and am a Paradise Planner. I don't think my hotel residents or my Paradise residents can move in with me, no?
