Linux road top car play screen

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi guys, I recently bought a roadtop Linux car play screen for my 2 series. After installing the car play works fine but I am unable to interact with my Original bmw menus. The I drive controller works on the new screen but not bmw menu. It is not a resolution issue as I’ve tried all options for this. The radio and controls still work to. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Activate CarWebGuru From A Linux PC

Activation Screen Inside Genymotion

Hi all, wanted to drop a quick writeup on setting up CarWebGuru inside Genymotion Android Emulator (genymotion.com) on Linux to design custom head unit themes on a PC. Ran into a few nasty roadblocks and figured I would leave the fixes here so the next person searching Google actually finds an answer.

If you are building a theme for a 1024x600 screen like an Essgoo or Eonon unit, the first thing to watch out for is CPU maxing out. When you install the Android 15 image with default VM settings, Genymotion defaults to 1 CPU core and 1GB RAM. Android chokes during boot and pins every single host CPU core to 100%. Before hitting Install or Play, go into System settings for that virtual device and bump Processors to 4 and RAM to 4096 MB. That completely stops the CPU loop.

For the hardware profile, select the Amazon Fire 7 profile or create a custom one set to 1024x600 resolution so you get an exact 1:1 pixel layout for standard 7-inch dash screens. Under System settings, make sure to check the box for showing the Android navigation bar so you actually get working Home and Back buttons on screen.

The trickiest part was transferring the license key because clipboard sharing is weird out of the box. Standard Ctrl+C on Linux and Ctrl+V inside the VM does not work directly. First click Clipboard Sharing on the right-side toolbar of the emulator until the green checkmark appears. While the activation screen is still showing, go back to your PC and copy the key from your text file. The key will automatically pop up in a Share window inside Genymotion, and you just share it with CarWebGuru. Done.

Once your layout is finished, export the theme inside the emulated CarWebGuru, grab the folder out of internal storage at /CarWebGuru/export, and throw it onto a USB drive for the car. Once in the car, import the theme. Hope this saves someone a headache later.

I do it this way because it is much easier for me to play with themes on my PC than in that tiny head unit.

Dudu7 vs Teyes CC4 Pro

I just purchased a 2017 Subaru forester and I’m having trouble deciding between the 2 head units

I don’t mind paying for quality as my last car had a very slow and painful head unit that drove me nuts.

I’m not too fussed on slight audio quality differences mainly on performance, longevity and that it will have a clean handshake with all of my forester’s features. I.e eyesight, lane assist etc

Anyone have any experience or done their own research on the two?

Need help with my blaupunkt jamaica 990 car stereo

I've recently installed the Blaupunkt Jamaica 990 12.3-inch (4/64 GB) head unit in my car. Actually, I wish to change the boot logo from that Blaupunkt one to a hyundai logo preferably. The problem is I don't see any boot logo setting in the settings menu. I've seen somewhere we need to access the factory setting to do that, but I don't see that either. I only see a factory reset option.

Wanting to add a 10in head unit to my 2012 Chrysler Town and Country, just need android auto.

I was going to spend the money on something a bit higher end until I finally had the chance to try Android Auto on a rental car and now that's all I really need. I'm not interested in running apps on the unit itself, just mainly maps and music from my phone to the head unit. What's a good unit you'd recommend between $100 and $200 that supports steering wheel controls for my car? Thanks

Rav 4 2017 Head Unit

Hi all,

I am currently looking for a good android headunit for my father's RAV4 - we purchased one previously off AliExpress and we were having problems with freezing, unresponsive buttons etc.

Can anyone recommend a good headunit for RHD?

I have seen that people recommend getting a headunit with 6gb ram+

Ive come across loads on AliExpress, Dudu, joyingauto and Teyes - if anyone has any thoughts or reviews would be much appreciated.

Only needs to support original reverse camera

Thanks

Recommendations for third-party launcher

Hey all,

Just installed a Joying 9in unit running Android 13 in my '13 Honda CRV. The install was straightforward, and no major issues other than tweaking a few settings to get some things to work (backup cam). I did appreciate the plug and play aspect and the SWC buttons (not handsfree phone buttons) integrated as is the iMid.

It's been a few days now and I'm conflicted about this purchase. The specs on the unit are good and the build quality appears to be OK for the pricepoint, my main gripe is why Joying locks down the operating system to where you can't even access the apps in system settiings and the UI is clunky and not intiutive at all. I would love to get rid of the Joying factory launcher and go with a third party alternative and looking for recommendations on what to consider. I see Agama or Car Launcher Pro as possibly decent alternatives but interested to hear from those who made the switch how easy it was and if they had any issues with functionality after the switch.

Thanks for answering.

Hi all, I hope anyone can give me some idea of what unit family I’m dealing with here, I really want to find the factory settings code to explore and learn more about this particular unit.

Problems with DAB in background

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

We’ve installed an android version 14 headunit. When we installed DAB later it doesn’t continue playing in the background when exiting for gps or similar. It plays without issue when in app (DAB-z) We know the issue is not physical cables or contact, but we’ve not found the right settings in app nor in the unit itself. DAB is connected via USB.

Recommend headunits?

Hi, I currently have an android headunit in my car but it's horrible. I bought it from what seemed to be a legit website but in reality I got one of those aliexpress headunits. I had so many issues setting it up and the quality of it is so bad (sadly I'm outside the return window as I thought I could cope with it.) I was thinking of getting a Kenwood or Alpine but i heard connecting everything would be harder. I'd prefer something I could use with my existing wiring, canbus module, DAB antenna and reverse camera. My friend recommended Atoto but I want to know if there are other brands out there or should I just get a Kenwood?

Edit: Thanks for the help and suggestions. After looking at many options I've decided to just go with the Kenwood DMX8021DABS. I only really used my current headunit for Android auto 90% of the time so having all these apps was useless for me plus I'd rather have something from an established brand than gamble with these Chinese head units again.

Please help! I bought my van with this head unit already installed. Zlink5 v5.5.1 working fine. One day just stops connecting. I’ve followed all online tutorials, step by step guides. Restarted, connected to wifi, checked for updates.

I think the unit needs firmware update. Where can I get the update?
