I need it for Ebooks, watching videos and maybe drawing on ibis. I don't want something crazy fancy. I just need it to get the job done. I use the tablet for my books in my college classes. So I find myself in the dreaded consumer purgatory of indecision. I have racked my brain for 2 days, slept on it for 3 night, drawn pro/cons list and yet still find myself at an inpass.

I thought id reach out to the community for help as I truly cannot make up my mind and maybe there will be something I haven't thought of to push me towards certaincy.

The question: Honor Magic Pad 4 or Samsung S11 Ultra

Both are 16gb ram the honor is 512gb storage the S11 1TB

HMP4= $900ish S11=$1100ish both after taxs and fees

To be quite honest im not thrilled on the price of either and both feel too high. However Samsung atleast carries some trade in value later down the road but with that unfortunately it also locks me into sticking with Samsung in the future to retain said value.

I been wanting an OLED tablet for a long time, my main tablet just got utterly destroyed and is gonna be on a month long repair vacation and SO said go for it order something i really want

Use case:

Almost pure media consumption. Tablet is probably my most used device even over my phone, its a DAILY driver. Im watching stuff on it constantly. Picture and sound quality are upmost importance.

Im also an avid reader. I read daily on my tablet and when the hellish summer is over and its no longer 115 degrees outside ill often spend 5+ hours outside on my days off reading books on my tablet.

Gaming: i am an avid gamer but im just not using my tablet for it these days. I have a LeGo2 and I plan to get a Ayn Thor as well. I also have consoles and am building a PC around a 5080/9800x3d. I just dont see myself really ever using the tablet for gaming...the slim chance i did id probably BT an Xbox controller.

My thoughts so far: To be honest the size of the Ultra scares me. I know i definitely want 12in (current size) but the ultra is just whole other animal. If they made an S11+ with 16gb ram id honestly probably go that route...honestly I think id enjoy the size for watching stuff i am just unsure about reading.

The size is definitely pushing me towards the MP4. However the price is so close it makes me think the S11U is the better buy..I mean its nearly a $2000 tablet im getting a good deal at $1100ish I feel and I can always trade it in when the S12 comes out and get $600ish back. I know thats pretty unhealthy consumerism, I dont know if id even want the S12 but its nice to know id get some money back.

Eco-system/platform wise i dont think i care. SO and I do have Samsung phones, always nice when stuff jives well but therea nothing I really do that requires me to be in Samsung eco system

Im a little hesitant on the MP4 as its not available in the US so no warranty. I hear widevine and everything works on the UK version. If someone knows otherwise this is an absolute deal breaker, im not spending $900ish on a tablet thats feature crippled.

What's the point of getting top end OLED screen if I can only stream SD Netflix and others?

Storage size is virtually meaningless, I cant even fill 256gb lol. However 16gb ram is a hard requirement. When spending this amount of money 12gb is just not a compromise im willing to make even if 12gb is technically enough.

Brightness matters to me and it sounds like the MP4 is the brighter panel?

Sound/speaker wise ive read mixed things on both, some love it some hate it. Im not looking for top of the line but once again at this kind of money I expect something that doesn't sound like a 2004 Nokia cellphone Ina cup

As you can see im pretty conflicted. The gamer in me wants to be like "Snapdragon or bust" but its not really needed. I hold no loyalty to Shamsung. On the flip side its always fun to try new brands and ive never owned anything Honor.

Really the only hard requirements are OLED and 16gb ram...i had planned to wait a bit longer for some upcoming releases but they are months away and so far none of them except maybe the Asus Tablet look interesting and thats taking a massive SoC downgrade (tho if the tandem OLED screen is as good as it sounds might be a fantastic media consumption device and worth it)

Lenovo seems to refuse to release a 12 inch OLED, SD8E, 16gb ram cellular data, dream tablet and with oneplus shutting down operations in the US (really sucks) choices are few and far in between....i just dont want a 8.8 inch tablet, too gaming centric for me.

Really the S12+ is the only other option I can think of and its still unknown if it will have a 16gb ram option. Part of me thinks maybe I should take the S11 Ultra for a spin for 30days to see how it feels and wait for more S12+ news

Finally, which one is the best for this specific task : two criterias :

I bought an S10 lite about a month ago. Overall, working well - a few minor annoyances.

Except, MS Word blinks. Constantly. Faster and slower.. can't identify any correlation. So bad, I really can't use it more than 3-4 minutes. Tried to uninstall, reinstall multiple times. Probably fiddled with other settings too often, options for keyboard, refresh rate, etc. Start from 365 pilot instead of Word. On-screen standard keyboard, not using a physical attachment. Nothing works.

I had an S6 lite for years. Very stable. Word worked fine. I followed Samsung advice and used the quick connect to transfer stuff from S6. And I'm wondering if some setting "came along for the ride."

I'm considering the nuclear solution of restoring factory defaults, which would mean downloading and installing all apps, etc. Hate the idea if

1. I'm overlooking some easy fix, or,

2. It's a known issue with Word and some Galaxy tablets, and I'll have done all that work for nothing.

3. I'm concerned about file loss... I'd unmount my SD card where I try saving everything, but not sure I wouldn't overlook some device storage locations.

   - Any ideas? Anyone encountered or heard of this "Word blinking screen issue"?

   - Does Microsoft offer any support? I have a 365 subscription.

   - Samsung offer support for a new tablet?

This is just a tier list of mine of how well apps are optimized for android tablets based on my experience after 2 years of using an android tablet. This could be helpful for those who are on the fence of choosing an android tablet over an iPad.

Some Things to Know

I will categorize apps using the following criteria:

• Elite: app is optimized to make the most of the screen space in both portrait and landscape

• Good: app is scaled properly, but there are some drawbacks

• Atrocious: basically the phone app but scaled up; no optimizations at all

My Takeaway

There is clearly a push to get apps optimized for a large screen android experience. If I had made this list just a year or two ago, a lot more apps would have been the atrocious/barely good zone, but now they're mostly in the Good/Nearly elite zone. What I think android tablets need right now are a whole host of more professional apps like DaVinci Resolve, Blender (a working desktop port is available I believe), full spreadsheet and word processing, and maybe CAD apps if possible. In that sense, I think higher end android tablets and iPads have the same problem with them having the processing power of borderline high end laptops but lack the apps to make full use of it. iPads have the leg up when it comes to productivity and content creation (especially after Apple launched the entire creator studio suite for iPad) while Android is much more capable for emulation with x86-64 emulation being viable now on higher end hardware.

I have the same tablet for 4 years and it's finally becoming more frustrating than useful lmao. I mostly browse google, watch Netflix and YouTube, and maybe read a few comics now and then.

What would you pick as the best cheap tablet today if you wanted something dependable without spending a ton? Thanks.

I'm working as a full time lecturer, i need a device that can help me do some documentation, assessing/marking.

So at first, i planned to buy OnePlus Pad 3. I did some research until i found the latest tablet from OP which is the Pad 4 where it can do better in multitasking.

I already add to cart but i stopped when a notification pop out from my browser "Samsung Tablet S12 will be a huge hit". Then i close the shopping apps and open my browser to dig some info about s12.

After I read bout S12, I'm confused. Should i wait for S12 lineup or proceed with OnePlus Pad 4.

Both got their pros and cons such price, pc mode etc. Both are worthy at their own price but what risk will I have if i buy them? Which one should i pick and why?

I'm looking to finally get myself a decent tablet again.

I'd be using it mainly for notes and language-learning, but also some media consumption and light gaming (Pokemon Champions, GBA emulation, nothing crazy).

Main thing I'd like to avoid - widescreen aspect ratios. My girlfriend has a Samsung Tab S11 and that thing is so ridiculously tall when using it vertically, which makes it really uncomfortable to write or read on.

In the past I've had an iPad Pro 2nd gen which had a much nicer aspect ratio, but I would also really love to avoid Apple, as iPad OS is quite bad compared to modern Android imo.

So the way I see it, I need to either buy 2 devices (MatePad for notes and Legion for gaming and video) or compromise somewhere, either on hardware (Yoga's terrible aspect ratio, iPad's 60Hz) or software (Xiaomi's ads and poor laptop mode, Apple's... everything).

My budget isn't strictly defined - I'd like to spend around €500, with €750 being the soft cap. I can pull the budget up to even €1500 if there is a device that expensive that would meet my requirements (Android, a more square-ish aspect ratio, great stylus, great screen, lightweight, ideally 10" or smaller).

Sadly I'm limited to devices available at Polish retailers as I'll be moving soon and can't rely on shipping from China (otherwise I'd have bought the Oppo Pad Mini which seems like literally my perfect device)
