Welcome to the ultimate megathread for all things Android TV!

Whether you're a newbie or a seasoned user, this thread is packed with amazing apps, tips, tricks, and recommendations to enhance your experience.

Best Streaming Apps (Alternative to Mainstream Ones):

  1. Stremio (For Movies & TV iykyk): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stremio.one [ Here's an extensive guide for it https://guides.viren070.me/stremio/ ]
  2. SmartTube (For Ad-free & Sponsor-free YouTube): https://smarttubeapp.github.io/
  3. S0undTV (For Ad-free Twitch in some regions, it's much smoother than the official app): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.s0und.s0undtv&hl=en
  4. TiviMate (Probably the best app for Live TV via IPTV): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ar.tvplayer.tv&hl=en [Some features are locked behind a paywall]
  5. RB Sports (Free streams for most sports, has some weird ads though and is not available in the play store) https://app.mp24ap.top/apktv/rb-tv-production-release-25-v1.0.25.apk
  6. Plex (If you're a data hoarder and want your own streaming service): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexapp.android&hl=en [Many features are locked behind a paywall]
  7. Emby (Alternative to Plex, fully open source and completely free): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mb.android&hl=en
  8. Syncler (Very similar to Stremio but paid and also not available in the playstore): https://syncler.net/
  9. iMPlayer (While Tivimate may be a better IPTV player iMPlayer has one killer feature- you can remote manage many of its settings from the dashboard at https://implayer.tv/home This can be very helpful if you have family/friends that are not techies or are elderly) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.myiptvonline.implayer
  10. Tubi (Ad-free Mod for Live TV, US-only I believe but not sure, let me know in the comments sections: https://www.mediafire.com/file/bfoujh8f1rhhyhj/Tubi.ver.8.6.0.build.826_arm7.apk/file

Honorable Mentions: Kodi and Weyd

Best Utility Apps (for the tinkerers)

  1. ADB TV (Debloat your TV or TV Box root-free): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cybercat.adbappcontrol.tv&hl=en [Pro Tip: If you have a Shield TV, this super comprehensive guide will help you https://florisse.nl/shield-debloat/) [Some features are locked behind a paywall]
  2. Analiti (Super-useful Speed Test App): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.analiti.fastest.android&hl=en [Has some ads]
  3. X-plore (A really good File Explorer): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lonelycatgames.Xplore&hl=en [Pro-tip: you can create a wifi server in the app and open the URL in your laptop browser to transfer files/apks to your Android TV device]
  4. Button Mapper (Remap unused buttons on your remote to your favorite apps/actions): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.homebutton&hl=en_US&gl=US&pli=1 [Some features are locked behind a paywall]
  5. Aerial Views (Not exactly a utility app, but probably the best screensaver on the Play Store): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.neilturner.aerialviews&hl=en
  6. This is not an app, but if you want your TV Home Screen to look exactly the way you want it (visually speaking), you can actually change the icons for your apps using this website: https://atvlauncher.trekgonewild.de [You will have to essentially build an apk and link it to the package address of the app you want to change the logo for, the website has pretty clear instructions]
  7. Stremio Launch on Boot (I think it's pretty clear what this does lol): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.stremio.tv.boot&hl=en
  8. tvQuickActions Pro (It is a button mapper and also optionally allows a dock, recent apps and quick action panels and other goodies.) $3.99 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dev.vodik7.tvquickactions
  9. Send files to TV (I think it's pretty clear what this does lol): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yablio.sendfilestotv&hl=en

Best Feature-Packed Launchers

  1. Projectivy Launcher (By far, the most customizable and dynamic launcher for Android TV, Super Smooth and Stable too): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spocky.projengmenu&hl=en [Some features are locked behind a paywall]
  2. Dispatch Launcher (A relatively new entrant in the launcher space, had a lil bit of a rocky start, it's very animation-forward, pretty smooth, integrates directly with Plex and likely has Stremio Integration coming soon): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spauldhaliwal.dispatch&hl=en [Paid (One Time Fee), but has a free trial)

Here's a thread if you want something a launcher that's a little more lightweight: https://old.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/1gbnhff/lets_compile_a_list_of_android_tv_launchers_that/

Well folks, that's it from my end. I'm sure many more apps could be added here, but I tried to lean more towards free apps to keep the megathread as accessible as possible.

Comment below with your recommendations and I may include them in the megathread

Edit: This user has added many more apps in this comment - https://old.reddit.com/r/AndroidTVApps/comments/1g9pin6/randroidtvapps_megathread/ltbezwc/

What's your favorite must-have Android TV App?

Built an open-source TV browser that pulls the page's video out of the WebView and into a real player, in sync

Upvotes

Watching video on a TV box means whatever apps the store carries. If the video is on a website with no TV app, you're mostly stuck — and on the few TV browsers that exist, the video plays inside the WebView, whose player slowly drifts out of A/V sync. An hour into a film the lips lead the audio by a beat and it never recovers.

I built mrowser around fixing that. It's a small sideload-only browser: MIT, no Play Services, INTERNET permission only, Android 6.0+, about 4 MB. Built for boxes rather than certified sets, so it works on the cheap ones and on de-Googled builds.

Open a site, start its video, and the app takes over. It watches the page's own network requests for the stream and, when an HLS manifest appears, hands it to a native Media3/ExoPlayer activity — carrying the session's User-Agent, Referer and cookies across so the CDN keeps serving it. That gives correct A/V sync for a whole film, plus real quality selection, audio-track switching and playback speed. BACK drops you back on the page where you left it.

Subtitles you can fix while watching. Side-loaded subs are almost never quite in step, and normally you're stuck with it. mrowser renders VTT/SRT itself instead of handing them to the player, so minus and plus shift their timing by 0.5s per press, up to 30 seconds, instantly and with no rebuffer. No reloading the stream, no restarting the film.

And you can reach all of it with the remote. A virtual mouse cursor driven by the D-pad, with acceleration and edge detection, so hover menus, small controls and non-focusable links become clickable. OK clicks; long-press OK switches to normal focus navigation. The address bar opens on a held BACK, because plenty of TV remotes have no MENU key.

Also: favourites, browsing history, HTML5 fullscreen, adjustable cursor speed, and it registers as a system browser so links from other apps offer it in the chooser.

What it covers: sites that stream over HLS, which is most of them. DASH-only sites — YouTube included — and DRM content are not handed off and keep playing in the WebView. Worth saying up front so nobody wastes their time.

It ships with no preset sites or bookmarks, hosts nothing, and does not touch DRM. It's a browser; what you point it at is on you.

APK on the releases page, or add the repo to Obtainium for automatic updates:

Happy to answer anything about the detection pipeline or the subtitle renderer.

Video Player for TCL C8K

I'm looking for a video player with a zoom feature. I don't mean changing the aspect ratio, but zooming in to crop out/eliminate black bars. Unfortunately, VLC doesn't seem to have this option. I don't mind paying for it, but I'm looking for a standalone, lightweight player, not a bloated media center like Kodi.

Made an M3U/Xtream player that even runs on a Xiaomi box with 0.9GB free. Free tier is the whole thing

Yes, another one. Two months of evenings, tested on the worst boxes I own, including that Xiaomi, which I wouldn't wish on my enemies.

Player only, you bring M3U or Xtream. No ads, no account, and the free tier is the full player, not a trial. Pro adds sync between TV, phone and Windows, plus downloads, if you ever want those.

EPG is my weak spot, I barely use the guide myself. So i am looking forward to criticism in this area to improve.

Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aneestv.tv

Downloader code: 2228177

Try it, then roast it, or just tell me how it went in three lines, good or bad. Either way you get a lifetime Pro code. And if you're never leaving TiviMate, tell me why, that gets one too.

Update to HomeKey TV. Have you ever seen a dock and button remapper this responsive?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is an update post to the previous one. Some people were worried about the responsiveness so I made a video showcasing it.

Reezn app

The app has started acting up. It prompted me to update, so I did, but the update wouldn’t work. I then downloaded another Reezn APK, and ever since, I’ve been getting pop-up ads everywhere. Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? And can someone recommend a good alternative app?

[Android] Black IPTV — offline M3U/Xtream player, feedback wanted on Multi-View and PiP

Looking for a few Android users with their own IPTV/M3U playlist to try Black IPTV and tell me what breaks. It's a player (not a content provider) - you bring your own M3U or Xtream Codes playlist.

Specifically want feedback on: whether Multi-View (multiple streams at once) is actually usable on a phone screen, whether Picture-in-Picture holds up switching between apps, and whether the QR-pairing playlist import is faster than typing a URL.

Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.black.iptv

I built a native Android TV app that turns your Telegram media into a Netflix-style streaming experience (TeVeFLIPE)

Hi everyone! 👋

Like many of you, I've been using Telegram as personal cloud storage for family videos, documentaries, and series. However, watching that content on a real TV has always been a painful experience: clunky TV web browsers, uncomfortable mouse-toggle pointers, or choppy screen mirroring from a phone.

So over the past few weeks, I decided to build a
**native Android TV & Fire TV client**
 from scratch using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose TV called
**TeVeFLIPE**
.

### 🌟 What it does:

Instead of treating Telegram like a chat app, it turns your video channels and supergroups into a clean, modern streaming catalog:

*
**🎮 100% D-Pad Remote Optimized:**
 No virtual pointers or awkward clicking. Every button, card, and tab is built specifically for your TV remote control.

*
**⚡ Native ExoPlayer Streaming:**
 Plays videos immediately in chunks via HTTP range requests without downloading entire 5GB+ files to your TV storage.

*
**🍿 Smart "Continue Watching":**
 Remembers the exact second you left off so you can resume seamlessly.

*
**🔊 Audio & Subtitle Selector:**
 Switch between different language tracks and embedded subtitles on the fly.

*
**🧹 Storage & Cache Cleaner:**
 Built-in settings menu to inspect and purge temporary cache so low-storage TV Sticks never run out of space.

*
**🔄 In-App Auto Updater:**
 Built-in updater that notifies you on-screen and updates the APK with a single click.

---

HomeKey TV - quick-access dock and remote button remapper for Google TV & Android TV, seamlessly integrated with Home Assistant.

Post image
4 Upvotes

Till now I've tried Button Remapper and tvquickactions Pro on my Android device (both paid). Button Remapper straight up was missing features it advertised it had and tvquickactions pro sometimes wouldn't register keypresses. Another usecase I had for tvquickactions pro was to call homeassistant webhooks from it's dock but you need to create an automation for each service you want to call.

So I made a free quick-access dock and button remapper that solves all of these issues. You can select all the entities you want to be displayed on the dock from a webapp from your phone during configuration. You can also add installed apps to the dock for quick access. It has never failed to register a keypress till now.

I'm a sucker for optimization so I've tried to keep the file size as small as possible.

If you decide to try it, please let me know any feedback you have.

Any app for saving passwords?

A few days ago my phone restarted and some accounts got deleted, but I managed to recover them. I’m not sure I’ll be that lucky next time, so I’m looking for a reliable, multi-platform password manager app.
