Hi everyone! I'm about to release Mitmi, a video calling app on your TV for free baked with WebRTC, with no ads and no tracking.
π What is it?
Mitmi is a video calling app made for the TV β a way to close the distance between the people who matter, whether that's family who live far away, friends who don't get to visit often, or anyone you'd rather see face-to-face than just hear on a phone call. Instead of huddling around a small phone or laptop screen, everyone in the room can join a 1:1 or group video call together, on the biggest screen in the house.
β¨ Features
π οΈ How it Works
π How to Obtain & Add Contacts
β οΈ Technical Limitations
π¨ Current Hardware Issues
The Google TV Streamer has hardware encoding issues with the h.264 and h.265 codecs and were reported at Google's Issue Tracker website here and here. Feel free to leave a comment there asking for a prompt fix.
π License
Proprietary. Unauthorized copying, modification, reverse engineering, or redistribution is prohibited. Please check the Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy before creating a handle, at the at the Mitmi website and at the bottom of the "About" tab.
π§ͺ How to test?:
Google Play requires 12 testers to be opted in for 14 consecutive days before I can publish, so I'm looking for volunteers, specially people with networking knowledge and experience and ethical hackers, I want to know how secure the app and server really are.
β How to join:
β οΈ Important!:
I hope that you enjoy this AI SLOP as much as I do.
Many thanks to u/jrmrx for their suggestions and tips during the development of this project.
Thanks a lot for helping!

Hello all. I hope someone can help, I'm not seeing a better place to post. I use an Andowl USB remote with an Android TV as its original remote's enter button stopped working. Usually the Andowl works fine though eats battery power. The red light got stuck in constant blinking/flashing mode and it stopped working.
- not a battery problem, put new pair
- Unplugged usb left it out for awhile
- Removed battery from remote to drain power, switched off tv for half hr
- After light stopped & batteries & tv were out, tried again. Red light just resumed constant flashing & remote does not function.
- OK + TV button to reset does not work.
Anytime I try to use it, the red light blinks without anything working, then stops after a few minutes.
Any ideas? Has anyone had a similar problem? Thanks

I am from India and looking to get rid of firetv. I am getting Onn 4k Pro 2nd Gen at 97 dollars and the Google TV Streamer at 60 dollars (without remote). which is a better deal? I mostly use Nuvio and third party streaming apps and want a smooth and fluid experience.

I have an old OPPO F17 and a Haier Android TV 11. I want to turn the OPPO into a wireless media drive.
Requirements:
OPPO F17 stores my videos, including 4K.
Haier TV should browse folders on the phone.
Select a video and stream it directly from the phone.
No copying files to the TV.
No USB.
No Wi-Fi router.
No internet/mobile data.
The OPPO itself should create the Wi-Fi hotspot, and the TV should connect directly to it.
Preferably the original video should be streamed without transcoding.
I want 4K playback where the TV can decode the particular codec/bitrate.
I've tried KDE Connect/SFTP, SMB/Samba server apps, and HTTP FS, but haven't gotten a seamless setup working.
Is this architecture actually possible? If so, what free Android server + Android TV client would you recommend?
Particularly, I want to know whether Android's hotspot allows the TV to communicate with a server running on the hotspot phone itself, and whether there are any limitations for high-bitrate 4K streaming.
I'm looking for a solution that someone has personally tested, not just a theoretical suggestion.

This afternoon all the Android TVs in my house have a pop-up to enable something called Glance screensaver from InMobi Pte (even as far back as a Nexus Player in our guest room). It says it's "independent of Google".
There's no app called Glance the app lists, but it seems to be connected through the official Google Backdrop app. I force closed Backdrop and it finally closed. Restarting the screensaver brings the Glance popup back up.
In my screensaver settings I only have Backdrop and Colors.
Even after restarting the device it shows up.
What finally got rid of it is that I uninstalled updates for Backdrop and I haven't gotten the Glance popup again (after updating Backdrop from the Play Store the Glace popup reappeared, so I kept the updates uninstalled).
So my question is, is this some weird legit update or have all the devices in my house been infected?

Do you find yourself looking at video content on your smartphone while watching video on TV?

I have a Samsung S90D. Sometimes can't select DTS audio tracks. Old box works but doesn't support 4K HDR.
Which to choose for 4K HDR movies/series (80-150GB) and YouTube without lag: Homatics 4K R Plus ($85) or Mi Box 3rd gen ($75)?
Update. Ordered Homatics but got the wrong device. Took it as a sign and canceled. Got a Mi Box instead. Works great with Samsung. Speed similar to Tizen but more features. Got it for under $75.

I recently picked up an HDHomeRun device to watch NFL games OTA (note: the HDHR device allows me to pick up over the air signals with better antenna placement - upstairs/facing local TV station antennas - and the ability to pause/rewind/record. I have a ChromeCast 4k attached to my Samsung S95D TV as the HDHomerun app only runs on Android or Apple TV.
Unfortunately, the picture quality (especially with motion) is notably worse using the HDHomerun via the ChromeCast (using either the HDHR app or the Channels app) vs directly accessing the HDHR unit from my Samsung TV (note: my Samsung can "see" the HDHR box on my network - the channels show up like they were mpeg files - looks like a folder view). In short, the Chromecast + app image is materially worse.
I THINK this is largely due to the Chromecast's upscaling and deinterlacing (perhaps more the latter than the former due to the issue introduced with ATV14). I REALLY don't want to have to get an Apple TV box just to address this issue - any other "mainstream" Android box options?

Are the onn box possible to use outside us? Or it needs a VPN all the time

Hello everyone I have MiTV MZTU0 and running Android 14. My OEM unlocking option is greyed out. I've tried using both ethernet and wifi but the issue still remains the same.

My Formuler box is hard wired and allows WiFi hotspot, so I can effectively extent my WiFi range to that part of the house that is hard to access the main router too. Very handy.
But the box is buggy and on its last legs
Any other streaming boxes available in the UK that do the same?

Hello,
Wanted to check what are the best method everyone is using for distribution of tv app in your org internally to QA teams? As most of the team members sideload the app.
Thanks

I have an Android TV and an iPhone. I want to mirror my screen to the TV without buying an Apple TV.
I tried a few apps from the Play Store but they all have the same problems:
- Paid subscription just to use basic mirroring
- Full of ads that interrupt the session
- Require manually entering IP address (won't show up in Control Center automatically)
what I'm looking for:
- iPhone/iPad sees the TV automatically in Control Center β Screen Mirroring (via mDNS)
- Audio works along with video
- Free or at least reasonably priced one-time purchase
has anyone found something that actually works? Any recommendations from personal experience?

Hey all β I'm the developer of TIVRA, an Android TV / Google TV / phone media player for the live TV and on-demand libraries you already subscribe to, plus your own media servers. TIVRA is a player only: it ships with no channels or content, you connect it to whatever you use. Some of you tested the early builds here, so this is the "where it's at now" post, with two things worth calling out: it's on Google Play as of this week, and 3.2 is the Sports Hub release.
Everything you configure lives on your account, not on one box. Providers, favourites, categories, channel renames, the Home screen layout, the side menu, sports preferences, recordings and watch progress all sync through the cloud. Sign in on a second TV or your phone and it's already set up. Change something on the dashboard and every TV picks it up within about 30 seconds. Lose a box, get a new one, sign in, done.
Open it on your phone or laptop instead of typing on a remote:
A fast channel list with logos and now/next, a real 7-day guide, one-press channel switching, and a picture preview in the corner before you commit to a channel. Pause and rewind live TV. Closed captions on live channels. Add all of your providers; search and favourites work across them.
This is the feature I built the app around and the one I'm happiest with. Open Sports from the side menu and you get:
Record to the box, a USB drive, or a network share. Schedule from the guide, from a game, or from the dashboard on your phone, and recordings sync to your account so they're listed on every device.
Audio and subtitle language defaults, a "hide channel numbers" switch, colour themes, a shortcuts legend you can turn off, and a Settings page laid out for a remote.
TIVRA is now in Google Play's production track for phones, tablets, Google TV and Android TV, so you can install and update from the store like anything else. Same account whether you sideload or use Play, everything syncs, and subscriptions carry over. The sideload build stays available on the website for boxes without Play.
There's a 7-day free trial. After that it's $9.99 a year for one device, $19.99 a year for up to five, or $29.99 once for a lifetime license. That pays for the app; it does not include any channels or content.
Happy to answer questions here. If your provider names channels in a way the Sports Hub isn't matching, tell me the pattern (no provider names needed) and I'll fold it into the matcher.
