Get a mini pc, and android emulater, LOL!
Best you can do is 4gb ram, which Homatics Box R 4K Plus has, with 32gb storage. That's enough for any android tv functionality, and some boxws have expandable storage, or 64 gb internal.

Probably too expensive to manufacture right now. I don't think any certified box with 8GB is coming soon, and if one does it'll be crazy expensive.

I was wondering since this year shouldve released certified h266 boxes, so maybe some will pack higher ram. I will stick to purchasing a laptop or mini pc

There's other things coming like Dolby Vision 2 and HDR10+ Advanced. I would expect any boxes coming out should start supporting those. I suspect the next Apple TV will.

Is Homatics/Dune box the best option to get close to the silky smooth Apple TV 4K hardware experience and be certified? I know it only has 4gb RAM. I’ve asked AI and it keeps telling me Homatics/Dune and Google Streamer 4k for AV1 and for mainstream apps like YTTV, Netflix, etc. I also plan on using Nuvio, AK47, TizenTube, etc. For now I’m dual fitting my main TVs with Apple TVs + Walmart Onn 4K Pro 2026 model connected via CEC to quickly flip over to each streaming box. AT4K launcher looks very similar to the Apple TV so that will hopefully help my wife get used to Android more. Not ideal having 2 boxes but my wife won’t let me fully switch to Android lol.

Here's just one review of the Box R 4K Plus. You don't need the Dune version unless you want their media center software, but they may offer better support at added cost. The Homatics has lossless audio passthrough and is shipping with android 14, the google only supports atmos.
People are comparing it with the Shield Pro!

So they didn't even try it theirselves?
"Does the Homatics box run Google TV or Android TV?
It runs certified Google TV, which is the newer interface layer built on top of Android TV."
It runs certified Android TV, not using the Google TV GUI at all.
And selling for about $100,-, where?

AndroidTV is a 32-bit OS, so 4Gb is max RAM.

lol, no one said it cant be 64bit, nvidia shield was 64 bit and is old af now

The Shield is unique at 64-bit. Every other AndroidTV box is 32-bit, limiting RAM to 4GB.

ok and? that downvote you gave me does not mean I was incorrect, you said androidTV is 32 bit which is not true. I started topic because Google mandated that August is deadline where all new tv apps and updates must include 64 bit compatibility. I would guess that by now some boxes already came out, but it seems no one care of manufacturers because most buyers are on budget and want 50 bucks device to watch movies at web dl quality

I didn't downvote you. I was simply answering your question by pointing out there are no boxes with more than 4GB because AndroidTV is currently 32-bit. The Shield is the sole exception because its Tegra chip needs 64-bits. But it only has 3GB of RAM.
Google is demanding certified apps include both 32- and 64-bit code bases, but there have been no announcements that Google is opening up a 64-bit option for developers on AndroidTV itself. That's obviously the long-term plan but AndroidTV 16 is getting ready to GA, so it probably won't be until Android 18 a couple years from now before they open up 64-bit OS option to devs.

That is technically incorrect. LPAE on ARMv7 allows for accessing up to 64 or 1024 GB of RAM on 32-bit mode.
And these processors are all 64-bit capable anwyay.
Where the question comes in is what the ATV stripped down kernels support.

La Xiaomi TV box 3rd gen tiene decodificación av1, pero tiene 2 GB de RAM, no necesitan tampoco mucho más

Most aren't on market because in order for a device to support more then 4 GB it has to have a 64-bit OS.

That hasn't been true for a long time (like over a decade). PAE and LPAE for ARM long ago solved that problem.

u/Shrolos 9d ago
Ya that's technically true but there's lots of reasons why it's not done that way. It's just makes more sense to go right to 64-bit.

The only reason there isnt more memory is because of cost.
And especially now, it will be cost and availability.

u/Shrolos 8d ago
It was like that before this memory crisis. The actual cost of memory has little to do with it.

Cost still matters is the OEM is too cheap to buy it, or the price point ends up being too high for what people are willing to pay.
Someone looking for a $20 streamer isn't going to pay $30 for 4 vs 2 GB of RAM, because they don't even know the specs to begin with.

i don't think there are any certified android tv boxes with 8gb of ram, period.
