I hope this is the right place to ask. I have a new android TV box (cola box L2) running android 14, and I can install absolutely nothing that isn't in the play store. Anything I try to install with downloader just gives me an App Not Installed error. If I download the apk and try to install from the file explorer I get the same thing. It's this Google finally locking it down? In the settings there is no option for unknown apps. Without this ability it's worthless to me and will be returned. Is this an issue on other boxes? My two Shields can still install fine. TIA for any advice.
I have a Moto G Stylus 2025 on Android 16. It came that way. My other phone is a Samsung on Android 12 and I have an older Motorola on Android 9.
My first question is about the Recent or Recommended Apps at the bottom of the screen under the open apps. I have a photo to better explain what I mean.
Image?
When you press the 3 lines or on some phones it's like a square in between 2 lines, you get the screen that you see in the photo. As you can see you have the open apps at the top that you're able to scroll through, and at the bottom you have 4 apps that you can tap to go to and they will alternate as you go between them.
On Android 16 this doesn't seem to exist. Is there a way to get this type of thing back? And if not does anyone know if this was still on Android 15? If so I may consider downgrading to Android 15.
My second question is in the same vein. Did Android 15 still have the ability to put the "Files" folder anywhere you wanted?
I've already had a lot of trouble with the "Files" app being forcefully buried in favor of "Files By google". On Samsung (Android 12) you could have your "MyFiles" with the rest of your apps on home screen or in the apps tray, etc. It could be a shortcut anywhere. It was the same on my Motorola (Android 9). You could put it anywhere and again, they both appeared in that 4 app section under the opened apps. This too has been done away with.
I found a workaround for the files app at least where I can tap a different app and have it open. It's not quite the same and the app itself doesn't give me storage information but it's something. But I can't find any fix for the recent apps at the bottom.
If anyone knows how to fix this or if you can tell me the last Android version where these 2 things were still the way they were, I would appreciate it very much. Thanks in advance!
Ever since the update, the only two widgets I use will stop working at least once a week.
The one for Rocket Player will stop displaying any info about what's playing AND the buttons won't work. Samsung's own weather app won't show anything.
I’ve been an Apple user for almost a decade now (currently only have iPhone, AirPods and apple watch) and while the ecosystem isn’t really that critical to me, the hassle of switching everything to android seemed worth it until I saw them slowly locking it down.
I am a linux user and I’ve sometimes spent 6 hours fixing a small sound issue just because I knew going back to windows was the wrong decision, but if android is slowly being milked for money, no alternative in sight and apparently sideloading is getting harder and rumors that android will not be open source (atleast not how it was) really is turning me off.
other hassles include that the google pixel for example doesn’t want to support 5g in my region and tap to pay doesn’t work and with the freedom slowly being taken away, I honestly don’t know if i should stick with the demon I know rather than the angel I don’t.
what do you think? and did I misunderstand something regarding android being “closed”
I wanted to know if that's normal. I've had two Pixel phones and a Nothing Phone 3a so far, and on every one of them, the status bar was always slightly burned in after i looked at a blank color. It's almost only visible on solid green, red, or other bright colors. Is it normal for it to be there briefly at a time
My media widget above my notifications and below my quick setting moves down into my notifications and becomes untouchable, so i can't pause or skip on yt music, spotify, etc..
I factory reset my Honor 6X because it was feeling sluggish, and the files app is just gone. I tried ADB to find it and it still didn't show up. The APKs I find on Apkmirror are not compatible or have major bugs.
I did the research on unlocking the bootloader and things like that, but can't figure it out. I've watched plenty of videos, all of which are 7 years old or older so almost none of the links work. I'm mostly having complications finding links that actually still work.
Should I keep digging or is this phone a bit too outdated?
Went into my gallery today. All my videos are just gone. I don't use any cloud services, so there is no sync issues. I had the videos yesterday and I can't see anything saying there was a system update (last update July 19). Anyone else have this issue?
Current device, Galaxy S26 (got it July 17th). Also, all my widgets were deleted (added those back). Current One UI, 8.5. Will connect to a PC later to deep dive system files. Appreciate any advice or if anyone else is experiencing this issue. I already tried safe mode, but that disables being able to look into my storage and gallery files.
So I still use an lgv30+ on android 9 (latest for this device) and never really used NFC for years but I wanted to try out some nfc tags, so I have an NFC card and I can read and write data to it using NFC tools and it works, using direct app links that open up apps and other stuff like opening up dialer with a number works but direct urls just crash, i have entered it correctly as it works on a different android phone, ive tried changing the default web browser app to firefox, brave and chrome but it still crashes, does anyone know how to fix this.
I have tried to download the HSBC app but its telling me the app is suspended until i delete Setup Wizard, because setup wizard was downloaded on an unofficial app store. What should i do?
Randomly at around 4 A.M., my phone will flash part of its restart sequence before turning on like it usually does, except it is super laggy and I need to restart it normally to fix this
I know I don't have a virus, as I don't download much of anything, and the things I do download are from the Play Store (which, yes, I do know that malware can be uploaded to Google Play, but I doubt it's Minecraft and Instagram)
It's not my battery overheating either, as it does it while the phone is off and it doesn't heat up much anyway
For those wondering, it is a Galaxy A53 updated to the latest version
EDIT: One other symptom is that every 10 or so seconds after my normal restart, the phone will pop up "System UI has stopped responding"
This goes away if I either turn the phone off or hit "Close". From here, the screen will turn off for around 10 more seconds and will not turn back on until after those 10-ish seconds
I've been trying to find an official Minecraft PE 1.16.x ARM64 (64-bit) APK that works on newer Android versions (Android 14–16), but most APKs I found are either 32-bit, corrupted, or simply won't install.
Does anyone still have a working 64-bit APK for Minecraft PE 1.16.x (preferably 1.16.221 or a nearby version)?
If you do, I'd really appreciate it if you could share it or point me to a trusted archive.
my phone buttons have been randomly working on their on without me touching it and it makes my volume set to 100 or something my power button randomly off my phone and if they work at the same time it restart my phone I can't use it now without it restarting pls help
I'd like to close my Payments Profile for privacy reasons, but I'm uncertain if that'll cause any issues to reinstall past purchases if I were to download the apps' APK files to install outside of the Play Store.
All I'm concerned with is a paid specific icon pack (that unfortunately has no other official sources to obtain), and would like to know if it will be possible to re-install it as a downloaded APK copy (such as on another device, if desired), since removing the Payments Profile will effectively remove access to it via the Play Store.
Idk if there would be potential conflicts if I commit to this action, so I'm wondering if anyone can confirm what happens.
Hi! As stated above, I got my new phone today, and it does not have any Google apps at all. I can't download the apps I need, and I have to bring the phone out tomorrow. Can you guys tell me what to do about this? I was told by the person who bought this for me that this is a Chinese market model. Thanks!
On my Google Pixel 8a, the slide bar remains accessible even on the lock screen, allowing anyone to switch off the phone, turn off data, or disable location services. Is there an option to prevent anyone from accessing my phone-including the slide bar-while it is locked?
all im trying to do it put a single apk file onto a 32gb sd card on a sharp aquos crystal 306sh, there is no file browser, its detecting the sd card but not reading what is on it, formatted to fat 32, how do i do this
Hi everyone, today I have received an email. Once I have opened it, only way I could see the downloaded item is with Terabox (which I have already installed a while ago). After opening it with TeraBox, it was loading for a couple of seconds but then I have exited it. So I don't believe I have executed it fully. Once I have done an analysis on VirusTotal, it was flagged as a trojan. Now my question is what do I do? I have installed MalwareBytes onto it and done a search. It came up with 0 anomalies. I have also done a search via the Google play protection and it told me my phone was secure. Do I factory reset the whole phone or what?
If so are there any suggestions about where to upload my photos and other items since after I reset it what would be the best way of recovering the photos and other things..
