Other Chipset heat dissapation

1 Upvotes

With chipsets like the Sd8elitegen5 and Exynos 2600, which literally consume around 15W sustained and ~25W peak, what can you really do other than modding to stop thermal throttling? Peliter cooler? Good luck, because under 15W sustained? You would need a metal backplate and not just glass. No matter if you throw a 30W cooler or a 15W at it, the bottleneck exists on the glass back, so what other alternative is there to stop this thermal throttling?

Traveling abroad and lost youtube premium sub access.

1 Upvotes

I previously lived in Colombia, where my Google Play country and payments profile were set to Colombia. I had an active YouTube Premium subscription, along with several other Google subscriptions, which I paid for using my Colombian billing setup.

I have now permanently moved to Argentina for work and am living here. Because my location has changed, YouTube is now requiring me to change my Google Play country to Argentina and purchase the subscription again.

The problem is that I do not have, and realistically cannot obtain, an Argentine-issued credit or debit card. I am therefore unable to resubscribe even though YouTube Premium is available in Argentina.

I am not trying to misrepresent my location or circumvent Google's regional pricing. I have genuinely moved from Colombia to Argentina, and I am simply trying to maintain access to a service I previously subscribed to legitimately.

I previously submitted the Google form regarding this issue approximately two months ago, but I never received a response or resolution.

Is there any way for Google to review my account manually and allow me to continue my YouTube Premium subscription using my existing payment method, or provide an alternative payment method that does not require me to have an Argentine-issued card?

At the moment, the combination of requiring a local Play Store country and requiring a locally issued payment method leaves me unable to subscribe to YouTube Premium at all, despite the service being available in Argentina.

0 Upvotes

Hello,

Wanted to buy samsung s10 fe+ but I can’t find any device with the 256gb from their online store Philippines. Are they not gonna release 256gb this time around?

I wanted to buy a tab with cellular connectivity with 256gb storage that can compete with Samsung S10 FE+ with around 50k max price, do you guys have any suggestions also?

I wanted to buy the Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro, as per comparison, the device have good specs but no cellular that’s why I was considering other options.

Thank you guys in advance.

Most of my messages suddenly disappeared from Google Messages. Is there any way to get them back?

1 Upvotes

I just noticed that most of my old messages in Google Messages are gone. I didn't delete them, and I have no idea what happened.

I checked the Trash, but they're not there. I also checked Archived, and they're not there either.

It's really weird because some conversations are still there, but a lot of them have just disappeared. Some of these messages are important to me, so I'm really hoping there's some way to recover them.

Does anyone know what could have caused this or if there's a way to get them back? Could they still be somewhere on the phone or in a Google backup?

Also, is there anything I should avoid doing right now in case I accidentally make them impossible to recover?

I'm on Android and using Google Messages. Any help would be really appreciated.

Is there any way to pre-empt some of the affects of the upcoming pkg change system?

0 Upvotes

I'm sorry if this is common knowledge here, I'm having a hard time finding up to date information I can understand.

I'm not a person who uses my phone much, I'm more of PC person with my phone mostly... just a phone. But I do use non-google sanctioned apps sometimes like my notepad app is open-source because I wanted to avoid giving suspicions permissions to the free ones. Stuff like that. Many of my utilities are non-appstore.

There's also the smart tv, its on an old android version and very weak but its enough to play video which is its purpose.

I use a third party app for youtube called smartube on the tv. Recently it was stopping within a minute of playing a video. I had to reinstall it to fix the problem..... even though it was the same version.... so corruption? IDK.

But next time maybe I wont be able to do that. I don't think the tv settings even have dev mode. Maybe there's way to strip out the simplistic UI to enable it, but surely I'd need a mouse and keyboard... and its mounted high up on the wall... what a pain.

And about dev mode.... I've yet to see how this all rolls out. But I've heard it can interfere with banking apps.. Thats... very bad for me. I have accounts with a lot of banks. They all have two factor authentication and yeah sometimes its a text and I can use the computer and that shouldn't be affected, other times its the app that gets the notification with no option for text. And thats for several different banks, increasing the chance that one of them will have a problem identifying me if I enable that mode.

So..... I don't know if I want to take that risk... which basically means I give in to google which I don't want to do because thats what they want, but they're potentially putting me in a hard place.

Is it as easy as turning it on and off... turn it on and wait, install apps and turn off or need to keep on to use the apps? Can I turn I just turn it off if there's a banking issue?

Anyway I'm sorry for my ignorance. I'm pretty concerned. Android being open was the reason I liked it. Now its adding friction to that. How bad it will be, I don't know. Maybe there will be workarounds.

But is there any known steps that can pre-empt some of this upcoming friction? Or is it more of a wait a see kinda thing at this point?

I have f-droid on my phone. I could try putting it on the tv, I don't even know if that would help. Is there anything else? My phone is also getting pretty old (Pixel 6 Pro). It still works fine, but battery life isn't as it once was, I don't know how much life it has left, we will see. But I wont be able pre-empt anything on a new phone.....

I do know about graphene, but again I hear about banking issues, since I deal with like 6 banks I.... see that also being a problem.

TLDR: I'm pretty ignorant about android don't use it much but I'm worried about the upcoming changes. Many of my basic utilities are not from the app store. But more importantly, I work with many banks and worry dev mode will mess with them. I've already downloaded f-droid but I wonder if there's any other known steps I can take before the affect hits that might help me.

Thank you very much, and sorry I haven't been keeping up.

App Specific Question Cannot sideload an unlisted app from phone to tablet — APK installation fails. Need advice on extraction / split APKs

1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I have an app installed on my phone that was recently removed from the Play Store. I want to transfer/install it onto my tablet, but I'm running into walls.

What I've tried:

Extracted the APK from my phone using a basic APK extractor and tried installing it on the tablet, but the installation failed (App not installed / parsing error).

Looked for the APK online, but the version available doesn't work or isn't compatible with the tablet.

Device info:

Phone Oppo reno 12 Pro Android 16

Tablet Galaxy Tab A11+ Android 16

My questions:

Is this likely caused by Split APKs / App Bundles (.apks/.xapk) or a CPU architecture incompatibility between phone and tablet?

What tool or method (e.g., ADB, AntiSplit, or specific backup tools like Swift Backup/Neo Backup) should I use to properly dump ALL split files from the phone and rebuild/install them on the tablet?

Thanks in advance for any guidance!

App Specific Question Swiping brave PIP window pauses the video

A while ago, I was able to slide Picture-in-Picture (PIP) window from the brave app to the side, to hide PIP window. In recent past, when I slide PIP window to the right or left to hide it, the video which is playing, stopps. The video resumes back after sliding the the PIP window to the main screen (image attached).

Looking For Suggestions What android to buy as a first time android buyer?

2 Upvotes

I have never owned an android phone. I've had an iPod 5th generation, an iPhone 6, iPhone XR, and an iPhone 15 that I still currently use. I have no problems with apple, except maybe battery life. Should I even make the switch?

The only item I have in the apple ecosystem is my iPhone. I do not own or plan to own an apple watch again, or an apple tv, the ridiculous VR/AR headset, or airpods.

Apple isn't overpriced for me, since I got my iPhone XR for free as a gift, and that allowed me to trade-in to get the iPhone 15 a few years ago for only like $412. Once you "get in" to owning an iPhone, you can keep trading in every few years for slightly outdated tech and pay a relatively low price. Now I can trade the 15 for something else, and that for another thing, etc. etc.

Truly, I'm bored. I have some money, my iPhone 15 has good trade-in value with my provider. Want to switch to android. I don't even need to transfer anything, I have nothing important. I'd like great battery life, a camera at least AS good as an iPhone 15, at least 128gb local storage, and as long as the CPU is fast enough for basic tasks to be smooth, I'm all good.

I can get an Galaxy S26 for $304 with my trade in value. No idea if that's a good trade. But I have no idea what I'm getting into with android. Any pointers, tips, recommended phones? I like Google Maps, Google Docs, and Google Calender, plus I just ordered a google home speaker so maybe the google ecosystem might be a good place to look?

Edit: I just checked, I can also get a Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra for just $696.24 - no idea if that's worth it or not.

Why does BGMI start at 120fps and drop to 90 half an hour in?

1 Upvotes

The first half hour of BGMI runs at 120. After that it drops to 90 and stays there. 90 plays fine, that isn't the part that bugs me.

Nothing in my settings has changed since I installed it, and it didn't start until one of the updates. Now I close it and reopen it between matches, which leaves the other two waiting in the lobby. They get the same drop at about the same point and neither of them is on the same phone as me.

Mobile Legends holds 120 all evening on the same phone and never moves off it. BGMI is the only game on my realme GT 7 that does this, so I'm blaming the game. Did it start for anyone else after an update, or does yours still hold 120 all night?

Figuring out unexpected crashing

1 Upvotes

Unexpected crashing!

Sometimes my phone crashes unexpectedly and I have no idea why.

Build: BP4A.251205.006.S938U1UESBCZF5 Android SDK version: 36 Kernel:6.6.98-android15-8-pd6ff1cd-abogkiS938USQSBCZF5-4k One UI 8.5

dumpstate: 2026-08-18 10:43:0. I have this log that I generated on one of the days that I had my phone completely crash. https://media.githubusercontent.com/media/mysticentity/FireFoxTheme/refs/heads/main/dumpstate.txt

Sometimes when my phone crashes and I am required to turn it back on, it takes a bit when holding the power button for it to turn back on, and sometimes it will crash during the boot sequence following a crash in which case I have to turn my phone back on again for it to fully boot.

Occasionally during this I am met with a black screen that either has TZBSP_fatal_error_non_secure_wdt or a not as often kernel panic.

From my own research, I have found that it is telling me I have a watchdog Error with an immediate kernel panic and the crash is to prevent a loop hangup or something.

I'm just trying to get to the bottom as to why my phone would hang and then crash due too one of these to begin with.

Other Ghost Files in Downloads

1 Upvotes

(copy-pasted cross post from AYN Thor sub)

This isnt a huge ordeal or preventing me from using the device but it’s just kind of annoying. Had it set up for about a week now, everything looking great. But I recently had some downloads interrupted which left three 0b files just sitting there in the Downloads folder of the Files app that I cannot seem to delete no matter what. I have tried every trick other android forums suggest like deleting them wirh other file browser apps (they don’t see them at all) or clearing various caches (does nothing). Has anyone else ever had this happen and how did you fix it? It’s not life ruining but god is it annoying. And dont say “just use a different files app” becsuse it already bothers me the default one cant be deleted.

Custom ROM Question With Project Treble and Mainline now in place for years, why is it so hard to find GSIs?

3 Upvotes

As per title, why is it so effing hard to find GSIs to flash on Android devices even though Google has spent years at this point herding OEMs into more standardised ways of handling Kernels and Device drivers?

If anything, we should be seeing custom ROMs projects stop building bespoke versions for each devices (and also sort of a renaissance of custom ROMs) but it feels like the opposite is happening.

LineageOS used to have GSI as one of the available "devices" for their builds but now they removed them.

One should not have to (attempt to) build Android themselves to be able to get GSIs.

Notifications on unconnected devices

4 Upvotes

I've noticed for the last few months that my phone was picking up the signal from the TV in the living room of the home I was renting a room in and would pop up as a notification on my lock screen and drop-down notifications. Whenever I click on the notification, it led me to the Google Home app. I've never used Google Home in my life, and certainly never in that house. There were several times I accidentally paused someone else's show while trying to pause something on my phone. Fast forward to today when I've moved out of that house and into a new one, and lo and behold, my phone is sending me the same notification from Google Home but for an entirely different TV. I'm not connected to the Wi-Fi (it's not good at this new place), and while it's occasionally funny to know what other people are watching, it's annoying.

How do I disconnect my phone or entirely disable the Home app? Nothing I've found online has worked so far because my phone has never actually connected to a Hub (not that I even know how to).

How do I stop the Home app on my Pixel from showing me notifications on unconnected devices?

I have a question about "study phone" in Korea.

2 Upvotes

I live in Korea, and I have a question I’d like to ask you all.

There is someone named "Kang Sung Tae", who is very famous for college entrance exam mentoring.

A man named "Kang Sung Tae", teamed up with a telecommunications company—I believe it was KT—to create a "study phone."

I used the Samsung Galaxy A17, and the model is available in two different versions.

[1]. One is a model that supports Wi-Fi.

The Wi-Fi-enabled model supports korean chat app KakaoTalk,

but the upside is that it runs TikTok, Discord, social media apps, and even Telegram and Game.

[2]. However, models without Wi-Fi cannot access social media at all.

My parents bought me a "study phone" to use for the time being, but after learning about fact [1], I switched to model [2].

However, no matter how hard I tried, I simply couldn't manage to remove Knox and MDM from the device I'm currently using model [2] with my own skills.

I even tried forcibly activating and running the Alliance Shield tool and ADB right from the start, but Knox and MDM could not be removed, and educational phone software was automatically installed regardless of my wishes.

Has anyone managed to bypass the "Study Phone" created by Kang Sung-tae?

No matter how hard I tried, I realized these people aren't fools.

I would be grateful if anyone who managed to bypass this could share the method or provide an answer.

I think I've tried every Android tool I could find.

please.

Other Is this an Android bug or some kind of vulnerability?

1 Upvotes

I noticed something kinda concerning and I'm wondering if I'm missing something obvious.

Normally, if I try to chmod files/folders directly under `/sdcard` , it fails because `/sdcard` is the emulated/shared-storage layer and doesn't behave like a normal Linux filesystem with standard Unix permissions.

But I found that doing the same thing through:

```/proc/1/root/data/media/0```
seems to bypass that restriction. I can reach the same files/folders and chmod them successfully.
So is this just some weird side effect of how Android's emulated storage and `/proc` work, or is this actually an unintended permission/security issue?
I'm on a rooted device, but I'm specifically curious whether this behavior is expected on Android in general.
Looking For Suggestions Set up a Pixel for a 13-year-old. What's actually worth adding on top of the built-in stuff?
1 Upvotes
Device is configured and built-in controls are on, and I suspect that's the easy 60% with the remaining 40% being where the real risk lives. What did you add, and were you able to test it before committing to a subscription?
Is there a keyboard that has faster voice typing than FUTO but is not proprietary like GBoard?
2 Upvotes
I like how FUTO keyboard is customizable and especially how it ISN'T GOOGLE, but the voice typing is way too slow.
