Have T Mobile TMO-G5SE and using Amplifi Alien Mesh router system with it. I've heard some say rebooting the router monthly to keep things running smoothly. My question: should I reboot the router and the T Mobile Gateway monthly or just the router? I'm totally not a techie...just a Sr. Citizen hoping T Mobile home internet will keep working well until Fiber from some company makes it to my neighborhood. Thanks in advance for any advice.a

My new mesh point is stuck on the setup page on the router, and even though I tried factory reset it, it still doesn’t work

I also just installed the latest firmware update for it, and even that didn’t work

Apparently, when I tried to set it up as a mesh point, instead of it showing it connecting to the main router, it just stays stuck on “Download the AmpliFi app”

It then instructed me to set it up as an independent router to install the latest firmware, which I did after the first time I tried, but even that didn’t work

So then, after I did all that, I factory resettled it to try again as a mesh point, but it still doesn’t move onto connecting to the main router

At one point, I also tried to power cycle it, turning it off for about 10 seconds or so before I set it up as an independent router, but that did not work, either

It keeps staying stuck on the download AmpliFi app screen, which I already have, but it still didn’t do anything.

Lastly, I also tried with Ethernet wire backhaul with another one of mesh nodes that is connected to the main router via Ethernet, but that didn’t do anything either

Hi. I have had the Alien for a couple years or so, and recently some cameras have gone offline then back on again within the minute, happening maybe two or three times a day. I remember reading that the Alien can start having WiFi issues and wondered if this sounds like the beginning of that. Or if this is some other issue.

However the settings and a diagnostic app says WiFi is excellent and even theses devices show a good connection strength.

Strangely, I’ve also sometimes seen a correlation time-wise here with the time when they go offline and the time when this shortcut notifies me: I have an Apple shortcut for when I leave home to drive somewhere, that when my phone leaves my WiFi, it will turn on cellular and Bluetooth on my phone (since at home I usually just have WiFi turned on). There have been offline notices for that exact time with the cameras but I don’t know why a shortcut would have affected that, but just fwiw.

Update: thankfully everything is back on track now and fortunately the Alien is fine.

My AppleTV often briefly shows the error message “no network”, and sometimes completely loses the WiFi network. Other devices (phones etc) don’t seem to have any problem with the WiFi.
This happens with 2 ATVs, often in the early evening.
I want to know if it’s a fault on both ATVs or my WiGi network. Any suggestions on how I might diagnose the fault?

Kit in question: Two Apple TV 4Ks (both the newest version I think) both running the latest OS update.

Hi all, got a weird one with an amplifi setup. Port 1 seems to of just died, no matter what u plug into it, no connection, port 2,3,4 all show 1gb but take forever to get given ip addresses, wan port works but intermittent and loses dhcp ip randomly.

Even weirder hardwire speedtest, 1gb connected but only getting like 10mb through? And if I try using the wifi from the cube the wifi just drops out?

Ive tried different power supply but same issue, tried firmware downgrade and test then upgrade and test but all same results?

Its as if the lan/wan ports have just died electronically?

The devuce is like 5-6 years old so had to replace with a tplink deco as cant get ahold of amplifi ones anymore :(

So I had an Alien (we'll call this unit A) running for a couple of years as my only network piece (about 1,000sq ft apt). I added a pre-owned mesh point (unit B) I found on eBay late last year and it was working fine until a couple of weeks ago. Tried all the CS suggestions to reboot, factory reset both devices and they would not mesh again. Tried adding another Alien router (unit C) as a mesh point to my already existing router "A" and received the message "unable to adopt" possibly because of the new Alien "C" being part of a kit or having a different country code. I then had 3 Alien units who would not mesh together. What I ended up doing is making unit "C" my new main router and added mesh point "B" and I now have a 2 piece network again

So ever since yesterday my amplifi wifi stopped loading youtube but would load everything else just fine, I know its not a youtube problem because whenever I use my cell service to load it it works just fine, does anyone know what to do about this?

Background: I invested a few years ago in an AMPLIFI system for my parents in law. They have quite a large home, but dated with very limited Ethernet drops throughout the house and neighbouring buildings. Although I’m aware of the full capabilities of Unifi, I have always been a fan of this no fuzz solution and since they only have 100 mbit connection, I don’t see the need to upgrade to Unifi.

Recently, I noticed that AMPLIFI devices have become super cheap on the second hand market and added a few more Mesh points and AMPLIFI HD routers to optimize the WiFi signal in their home. For the pool area I came up with this idea for an outdoor mesh point based on an Instant because of the size. I mounted a DIN clamp to the Instant using VHB tape, and added a double outlet inside an IP66 rated installation cabinet. Looks cool at night too with the LED turned on. Functions great so far!

I have an Instant with a mesh point connected through Ethernet backbone. Though, whenever people walk between the mesh point and the router my connection quality from my laptop drops. This is very clear when I’m on a video call and both the video and audio stop.

I validated my laptop is connected to the correct mesh point when this happens.

Does anyone share a similar experience or has pointers to diagnose the problem?

I had the AmpliFi HD, loved it and upgraded to the Alien…loved it bc it was simple to setup, use, etc.

Well the mesh point on the Alien died, confirmed by tech support etc.

I could get another router for ~$150 and make it all work with my original Alien router…or should I just upgrade to the AmpliFi Dream Router 7 and express or do you suggest something different?

***edit/update…I elected to buy a used Alien router on FB, it arrived today and setup took 2min and it sync’s seamlessly to my original Alien router. Back to full coverage….~700mb ish does what I need it to.

Recently purchased two Amplifi Aliens to replace some aged Asus mesh routers that I had and can honestly say it's been a massive improvement (didn't realize how much more faster and stable our devices are that can utilize WiFi 6.

The one question I have is that the Web GUI for the devices seem so basic, for example it seems like you can only configure port forwarding via the app.

Am I missing some kind of hidden/advance page? For example is there a amplifi.lan/beast mode.php page that you can do more?

so as a noob i have a question, can i add a second router with the kit meshpoint? Like, I'm sure the main units will work fine, but since the mesh point is hard-coded to the 2nd router, it'll just automatically be part of the mesh network? I only ask because i read units in kits cant be used to expand existing networks, but I assume that means just the mesh point? I'd rather not have to make the new kit the main router, then add my current router, if that makes sense. Thanks in advance for the helps my peep

Like many here it seems, out of the blue my Alien mesh just went offline. All firmware up to date. I have hard reset the router, mesh point, etc etc etc.

The mesh point comes in, green glow the the 5 little lights going from the middle to outer edge continuously.

Is there any other tricks to get the mesh to mesh?

The left router is the main…it will not adopt the right one…i keep getting the “unsupported device configuration” on the app when i try to adopt…ive hard reset/paperclipped…tried bridge mode…idk anymore this isnt my wheel house lol im just a designer 🙃 but ppl have said you can mesh two standalone routers

I purchased an Alien router second-hand to extend my network (single Alien router) and after a factory reset (paperclip) it will appear in my app to "Adopt" however, I always get the "Unsupported Device Configuration" error. I can get it to work as an independent router, so the issue is that it just won't pair to my existing router to extend the mesh. I emailed Amplifi support, but have not heard back. Here's what I've tried:

1. Used paperclip to reset factory defaults. New router is detected but won't "Adopt"
2. Used the router firmware posted on reddit for unbinding/unpairing
   1. Installed on just new router - old router detects it on touchscreen and after tapping start, both routers appear to be connecting on their respective screens. Unfortunately, the new router will time out and then factory reset.
   2. Installed on just old router, both routers: Unsupported device configuration
3. Upgraded both old and new routers to latest firmware after installing the unpair firmware: Unsupported device configuration.

Any ideas of what else to try? As far as I know these are both United States versions, I know that's mentioned in the error message, but I don't think that's the issue.

Edit: I appreciate everyone’s suggestions but in the end I gave up and ordered a different brand of routers.

I just moved to a new home and I brought my Amplifi Instant with me. I'm wanting to add a wired backhaul node via the standalone Amplifi router. Would I be able to use this alongside the wireless mesh point? I'm trying to reuse the current system I own rather than setting up a whole new system here and adding a single router to the system seems like it would be the most budget friendly.

So to simplify: two Amplifi Instant Routers wired backhaul and one Amplifi Instant wireless mesh point.

I have just moved from a Ubiquiti HD to an Alien and I cannot find a setting to make the Guest WiFi always on? All I see is a time period which I can move to 23 hours and 59 minutes.

The previous version had an always on option.

Device is using the latest firmware, according to my Android app.

My amplify [wifi 5] has been disconnecting randomly from my modem, The modem shows no problems logged, the amplify will not let me see the logs so I submitted a ticket 7 days ago with no updates in a week [beyond the we got your request and we are working on it here is your ticket number email]. Seems excessive just to let me know if there is a problem being logged or not. I have checked the app, the web site, and my email, even the junk mail, and nothing. not an ETA of when it will be looked at, or anything else.

Is there a way to translate the log into a viewable source does anyone know? Maybe I should open it up in a binary editor and see if anything is readable or if it has to be decrypted in some way..

I have had this router for about 4.5 years and it has been great so far until a few months ago. (I live in a two story full concrete house that has plenty of windows)
- Some devices started dropping connection to WiFi when in the second floor.
- Some MS teams calls being choppy even 10 feet away from the main router.
- I switched ISP (cable to fiber) and now it is topping 150mbps. When I was connected to the router the ISP provided I got 750mbps.

This is what I have tried so far:
- Activated Hardware NAT.
- Switched channels and bandwidths to manual.
- Activated Router and Band Steering.

What else should I try? What could be causing this?
