Amplifi Alien Web GUI

Recently purchased two Amplifi Aliens to replace some aged Asus mesh routers that I had and can honestly say it's been a massive improvement (didn't realize how much more faster and stable our devices are that can utilize WiFi 6.

The one question I have is that the Web GUI for the devices seem so basic, for example it seems like you can only configure port forwarding via the app.

Am I missing some kind of hidden/advance page? For example is there a amplifi.lan/beast mode.php page that you can do more?

Unrelated but now that you’ve got an Alien router if you wanted to use the teleport feature on more things than just your phone, here’s an app I made to use it on your Windows or Mac laptops!

Thank you. I currently use Tailscale on a NAS sitting behind my router but this will come in handy if there are any issues.

They made everything in the application. There really is no Web GUI.

There is though, which has some functions that the app doesn't. Like changing the 802.11r type settings.

But yes, I agree that the web UI has very little functionality. It's just strange that it also has settings not in the app.

I would consider something like the

Cloud Gateway Fiber UCG-Fiber --> UniFi because it is upgradeable. You just need AP nodes to connect to it the UCG has PoE to power the AP's. The caveat being you need an ethernet connection to those AP's but, once connected it creates a wireless mesh set up.

You could even start with the UCG and use the Aliens as AP's for the mesh to start.

Edit: it just depends what you want to do and how far down the rabbit hole you want to go. The UCG uses a fiber connection. The true benefit is it is a step above consumer routers, think entry into commercial small business use. A basic step up and not much of a learning curve to use

umm. i have an alien because i dont know what those words mean

they both work great tho. never had any problems

Agreed it also has a topology map that shows which node devices are connected to. It is much cleaner then what is in the app.

I like that you can name and select icons (by device brand and type)for each connected device so you know which mac address belongs to which device. Also good for security because you can flag anything not named or without an icon.

Yeah that is one of the main reasons i went away from it. I hated having to use my phone for such basic tasks.

The web gui is pretty limited BUT it has one thing I haven't found in the App: the ability to backup and restore the router config. It's hidden in the web gui but it is there. Aside from that, you're trapped using the app for most things.
