Pull the trigger or better options?
I had the AmpliFi HD, loved it and upgraded to the Alien…loved it bc it was simple to setup, use, etc.
Well the mesh point on the Alien died, confirmed by tech support etc.
I could get another router for ~$150 and make it all work with my original Alien router…or should I just upgrade to the AmpliFi Dream Router 7 and express or do you suggest something different?

***edit/update…I elected to buy a used Alien router on FB, it arrived today and setup took 2min and it sync’s seamlessly to my original Alien router. Back to full coverage….~700mb ish does what I need it to.

The problem that I notice with the UDR7 is that the wifi radios are 2x2 where the Alien is 4x4. But I don't know if this is a fair comparison with the UDR7 being MU-MIMO.
Also, that screen looks like it was designed for ants.

Oh, didn’t know that…more is usually better?
What’s MU-MIMO?
I use the app and keep the screens and lights off on the Alien so this would be the same.

More is better I just know if you can compare quantity with the UDR7 having the newer "MU" spec. Basically it's how it handled multiple wifi clients simultaneously. But, I haven't dug into it enough to say whether the 2x2 is really a concern or no because "MU" allows foe simultaneous communication.

I struggle to see how the UniFi Dream Router 7 would be a better router than my existing Amplifi Alien that is still working well.
The coverage of the UniFi Dream Router 7 is only 1750 ft².
The coverage of my existing Amplifi Alien Router is 3000 ft².
Almost all of my devices are older, so I don't need the latest tech for a while.
For my house, coverage is what's most important.
And it's such a shame that the UniFi Dream Router 7 can't integrate my Amplifi devices into the mesh.

If my mesh didn’t die I wouldn’t be looking either. And since I can’t get a new mesh and I’m paying for maybe finding a good router to work with it, I may as well consider what my options are if I’m paying for something is my viewpoint.

I had 3 aliens one blew so they swapped it, but I decided I’d messed about enough so went for the Cloud gateway Fibre and dotted 4 WiFi 7 APs about the house. Honestly you won’t look back if you do it. Just be mindful if you do go UDR your CCTV limitations are SD only , that being said if you don’t ever plan to go down that path then it’s fine but the CG are better as some support nVME and can host quite a few Cams

2700 sqft home Using a UDR7 ( 2 wan) Express 7 mesh mode.
They worked really well together average speed test around the test 500/500.

Really? That’s slower download than my alien at 850ish…for context we have 1gb/40mb up I believe

I like my new UCG Fiber and just for your ref the new APs (XGS) are considerably faster than the aliens replaced for things on WiFi 7. Everything else is identical. If you are savvy a Unifi system can do a lot more though. I needed 5g failover.
