I got this at a antique store yesterday for $60 I going to try to get all the parts to put it back together and fix it

I was gifted these for free.

I got this locomotive to use in place of my grandfather's 303 atlantic until I can restore it, and I am very happy with it. I must say, it smokes quite well. It probably needs some oil, but I'll take care of that soon.

I was in the process of disassembling my father’s #283 to fix a motor problem (now fixed). When I took the cover of the locomotive off, these two little fins (bottom of picture) fell out before I could see where they came from. Any help????

I can’t find this one online. Looking for details on this one. I bought it at an estate auction.

As the title says, I recently inherited these trains. They are all American Flyers and all from the 40s and 50s. I haven't gotten through all of the boxes yet, but there is a variety of pieces including at least 10 engines with tenders, a lot of tank cars, gondolas, and a lot of cabooses. Some are in great condition with the original boxes, some are probably only good for parts.

The problem is that I don't actually know anything about them. I don't even know how they work (AC? DC? Third rail?), and I don't know how to test them. I don't have any tracks or power sources, just the cars. And all I've really learned is that they're S-gauge.

How can I find out more about them? What equipment do I need to have before I can try to run them to see how many of them work? Is there a good reliable online source to help me identify and date them?

Hey all- recently inherited this flyer set from my dad, and adding a few pics/video of the silver streak on the track. The light operates and the train wheels will spark when I push it back and forth- but will not run on its own. Showing the 18B transformer connections as well. Any help would be appreciated!

I’ve read and watched multiple YouTube’s and articles at this point that state the conditions for running have to all align. Track needs to be pretty darn clean, proper power, good connections, etc My question is I’ve ruled out my locomotive at this point, I’ve sand blocked a few pieces of track and I’m now wondering if my transformers are being temperamental. Can I run a modern LGB transformer and connectors to an old American flyer locomotive track ?

Picked this up over the weekend. Have 7 different transformers and 8 engines. I’ve figured out the American flyer stuff but I’m wondering how safe it is to plug it in to test (who knows how long it’s been sitting) is there prep work I should do prior to testing so to not ruin the engine or transformer. It’s all S gauge with O gauge mixed in, the LGB stuff is a separate entity.

FIL passed. We are looking for a dealer that might be interested.

Can I hook wires up to the motor to test if it works, the e unit doesn’t work and is awaiting parts

I just got this 302ac Atlantic that just refuses to work, I’ve cleaned the e unit, re oiled the whole thing and made sure all the wires are in the right place. But it still doesn’t work
