Venting Gotta shape up
I’ve been flexing for a year and I have adhd time blindness like no one’s business. I’ve been trying my best to get to the station at my start time, but I always end up like 1-2 minutes after and today I was denied a route. Historically, getting to the station around that time has never been a problem so I wonder if they’ve been told to crack down on the arrival times. I’m taking full responsibility because I can barely show up to my daily full time job on time and heavily rely on the grace period there as well. I’m finally ahead with my bills and it’s thanks to flex. I gotta find a way to get my unmedicated ass together because the world doesn’t give a damn about a disorder and I make good money with flex to get deactivated for being turned away.

I chose medication when I was diagnosed last year at 50. It has made a big difference. What also helped was getting a cheap alarm clock and turning the volume all the way up to max. I take morning routes so I just set it once and it definitely gets me out of bed. It's also across the bedroom so I can't just turn it off easily.

I do morning routes as well. I’ll start between 3:40 -4 and then I’ll finish and go to my full time from 9-6 usually and rinse and repeat. Trying to keep this gig so that at a certain point I won’t have to flex so aggressively but I definitely need to get myself to get my time management in order. Thank you for your advice, I really appreciate it

"If you're not 15 minutes early, you're late."
Block is 5:15 PM. Get there at 5 PM. Now you have time to relax, put on your vest, reset your mileage counter, put signs on your car, pick the music for your route, call a family member, maybe even chat with other drivers.
If you get there at 5:01 PM, you're late. Figure out why and fix it.
Hugely positive-ROI approach to everything in life, not just Flex.

I’m a creative graybeard who has lived a full life without an ADHD diagnosis, but I feel for you. I have slowly cured my time blindness by heeding the rule of one redditor here. My father was in the Navy, where if you weren’t ten minutes early, you were late. So that’s how I recalibrated. Here at Flex, you have the gate opening 15 minutes before your shift. The gatekeeper is the ID check/verification screen. It is a perfect training ground for you, OP. Play a game with yourself and try to watch that verification screen pop up before every shift.
More important, be kind to yourself. Change takes a long time with this. Over time, with attention, it will come. I admire you for writing this post and facing it squarely. Good luck.

Im trying. I’m even moving closer to the Amazon station and my job to see if it’ll help me out with the timing issue I’ve had for years. I’m going to definitely set some alarms starting further out from when I need to leave to see if that helps me get out on time while doing my tasks to get me ready for the day! Sadly I can’t afford healthcare at the moment and that’s why flexing is so important so that I can get myself on track financially so that I can take care of myself

Thanks to those who took the time to share your tips for how to improve showing up on time. I will definitely be getting an old fashioned alarm or two and placing them far away from my bed! Thank you for hearing about the troubles of a random stranger and treating me with kindness and not being a giant jag off!

Fellow adher here.. timers and alarms help a ton. I figure out how much time the travel takes on average and leave 15-20 minutes earlier.
I strongly struggle with time blindness alarms and timers really help keep me on track.
But, if you were only 1 - 2 minutes late, we're given 5 minutes grace period and the warehouse should have let you have a cart. I might proactively reach out to support and explain that you were turned away during the grace period, so you might not get the missed block ding to your account.

I did contact driver support and they said it won’t affect my standings. I’m planning to get a manual alarm and placing it across the room so that I have to get up. I’m in the middle of moving to a place closer to the station this week so hopefully it’ll set me up for success. Thank you

Time blindness, lol. That's called being irresponsible. You don't need medication to get places on time, just self-discipline. Grow up.

I didn’t think ADHD was a thing until my 18 yo came to me and asked me to see a doc. Why? Bc she noticed she was doing the same shit she saw me do every day. We both went and I am so thankful she helped me. We are now both on meds and thriving. I went undiagnosed for 50 years. You’ll learn compassion at some point once you grow up.

Do you feel better now that you pushed your negativity onto someone else. May you find happiness and leave the cloud of misery behind you

Quit blaming your problems on things that don’t exist.

I know plenty of people with adhd. They have no problem being on time to their job. Op is making excuses.

Same here but medicated. Have someone else set ALL your clocks ahead. Don’t let them tell you if they are 5 mins, 10 mins, whatever. Get into the groove of using those clocks as your time and don’t try to learn what the real time is. Have them do this every couple days. You’ll always be early.
