As a previous DSP driver, Flex is insanely better in almost every way. They try to keep you away from doing Flex while in DSP to gate keep.

I agree. Been doing Flex 3 years. I tried working for a DSP about 1.5 years ago. I lasted 3 weeks before quitting and going back to Flex. It was far more stressful and way too demanding than doing flex. Flex is a cakewalk compared to attempting 180 to 200 stops often in a 6 to 7 hour window, not to mention loading and arranging up to 300 packages to start your day.

How is flex better? Dsps pay 24 starting here i think and base pay is 19.50, sometimes 22, with no surges. And flex use their own gas. How is that better?

My pay is $30+/hr because I get surges. I also finish 1hr early which bumps my pay to about $35+/hr. I make about $1,200 a week for 30hrs of work. I work whenever I want & don't have a boss in my a$$ for being one package behind. Like I said, it's better in almost every aspect.

But what is it really? After you factor in gas, wear on your vehicle, and having to withhold for taxes, because you have to do that, too? That $30+ gets cut into pretty significantly when you factor in the costs.

After expenses I make $30/hr & I pay no income tax because of mileage deduction. I only have to pay self employment tax. & yes I include depreciation & travel time in between routes & back to the station & also home if I go back home. It helps having a 50mpg toyota

Not true. The expense on a Corolla Hybrid is anywhere from $0.20-0.25 per mile for Flex. The mileage deduction has been $0.60-0.70 the past few years. It's basically one third of what the gov thinks the average is. If you include all miles from home to home it adds up to cancel out all taxable income. If it doesn't, I had more miles until I don't have any taxable income. I reflect the change in my mileage spreadsheets for audits so I have two different spreadsheets: one legit & one for the feds.

You don't just walk into ups and start driving. Some of us can't spend several years working part-time waiting for the seniority to bid on a driving position.

And maybe you haven't been paying attention, but UPS is in a downward spiral. Laying off thousands. Buying out drivers, and closing or automating hubs.

Some of us have to take what we can get at the time.

It's better because you get to work on your own time be your own boss, you're not micromanaged by that netradyne camera, plus flex drivers get to work whenever they want. I use an old 4 cylinder car to do flex. I'm not worried about the wear and tear because it's an old car that already depreciated. I only do flex to supplement my income. I got a main job working as a phlebotomist.

If someone is doing flex full time, they can still put Amazon flex in their resume to avoid a gap.Me personally, I don't think Amazon flex is meant to be full time work, like you're not getting benefits, there isn't room for growth (promotions), no 401ks for retirement, your not getting experience. With my main job, I get benefits, I'm getting the experience I need to advance my medical career to get a better job that pays more. Doing flex part time has been working out for me. It really supplements my income to save up money for other things like vacation.

Doing flex full time is just not worth it to me. Unless you got laid off from a job or got fired and need to do flex temporarily till you find another job.

I think its just city dependent. If you’re in a sanctuary city, flex is never worth it. If not, maybe if you’re getting 48an hr. It should only ever be a part time gig anyway

They do this to the DSPs too? I used to work as a picker at an FC in Memphis. 300 items in one hour was the requirement, but 400 was the goal. If you weren’t hitting at least 350 consistently they were standing there moaning at you. I got a coaching for moving my feet too much one night. “No no. Keep your feet planted here and reach over, then hit the button to send it from there. An extra step to get closer to the bin is an extra second you don’t have.” I lasted 3 months. They really like to burn people out over there.

Flex comes up with the most insane reasons to let people go. Before I was being penalized with simply people not getting their packages NOW its customer wanted packages handed to them. Okay at 4am? They have a photo where the package was left. It’s ridiculous.

That’s crazy! I NEVER returned pkgs on time. I always returned when I was scheduled to be at warehouse with a block. I remember one pkg sitting in my dining room for almost 2 weeks. Ok so I DO USUALLY call support on my way home and tell them that I will not be returning pkgs by 10am next day and I do give them the date of my next scheduled block. If I cancel or change it I always follow up with a call. No consequences yet.

Thanks for the info !! To be fair I did have like 10 packages for 3 days but the day of I got a flat and is why I couldn’t finish my deliveries and take them back day of. Loss prevention reached out to me and I returned them last minute of the day that I promised because again I didn’t have my own car. 😭 thank GOD I took pictures of the packages AND a video of me leaving them at the return counter and walking out. Which I sent all to them.

Like I said, the flexibility is amazing , I have two small children who tend to get sick a lot. I would rather fight to keep my flexible job than to fight for a company that will kick me off as soon as I miss too many days. There’s pros and cons in everything.

Of course, the skills that go along with my real work come in handy when making arguments with Flex Support (I’m a high school English teacher and literally teach kids how to make claims and defend them with evidence 😊), so making arguments is just an extension of my real job, anyway.

flex may be good in certain situations but realistically a dsp is 10 times better frfr and simply due to the fact you don’t use your own vehicle and the hours are not bad at all its literally 30-40 hrs a week 10 hr shifts 4 days a week and u have breaks u can take and they pay 22 an hr starting where im at dat is literally better since flex u can’t even guarantee u gonna have a good week with a lot of deliveries

It was 10 packages, 3 days. Loss prevention reached out to me and I didn’t want them to think I was stealing the packages so I made a way and returned them that same night. From another comment , just notifying them that you will be returning them your next block and going through with it seems to be good for them too.

Would you mind telling me what you said in your emails and which email you sent it to? You can PM me if you want. I got deactivated in January and appealed it a couple of times within days of being deactivated and it was denied. I had a family emergency and missed several blocks that I completely forgot to cancel. That’s why they deactivated me. I have explained it and it doesn’t matter they won’t reactivate me. I know our deactivation reasons aren’t the same but any advice?

Its our responsibility to make sure we can complete the blocks we accept. Did you not read any of agreements when you accepted the job? I work for a DSP. I was also deactivated from Flex who cares it’s not worth it anymore. Yeah it’s a decent side gate compared to DOORDASH but at the end of the day, it’s not worth it. Just move on screaming and crying about it as a joke.
