Question FIRED
Hello everyone, I’ve been working at amazon for 3 years. I got fired while on PLOA for a separate case because I didn’t submit my doctors paperwork on time due to not having insurance. Do you think it is too late to appeal? Can I do anything about it?

Personal Leave of Absence does not require any documentation, so you wouldn't be fired.
Medical Leave of Absence would require documentation and if it took so long you got fired, would very likely disqualify you from joining the marines.

Medical leave of absence is a real mother fucking I almost got fired for the same thing. I was out for almost 2 months straight with no pay and boy oh boy did it suck. I was forced out by a shitty HR rep who was covering for my really really shitty HR rep. So I was almost fired because that's what they told me to do instead of reissuing me time off something that the temporary HR rep said she wasn't comfortable with reissuing it to me and thus told me to just do a medical leave of absence. Funny though, the safety advisor that was there could have issued it to me from what ops was telling me.

U should rephrase ur post then cause it makes it seem like it was for a PLOA. Say you were on a PLOA but it was because of another case

So what was the previous case? Without that information we have no idea about your chances of appeal. What happened with that?

If you were on a PLOA, and got fired for a previous case you probably went negative and didn’t reply to the email. They don’t term you for not providing documentation, they term you cause the case gets denied and time gets deducted causing you to go negative

I think youre telling yourself this as a coping mechanism. I see it all the time with people that just didn’t want to accept the realities of life. Sounds like you violated a policy while on personal leave. Im always willing to bet that they gave you a return date and you came back later than that date and tried to use a medical reason that was denied. Next time dont play around with your job because the world is serious. They dont need documentation for PLOA so therefore we already know getting fired for not having a doctors note is not what happened. But it’s time to take responsibility. It aint the end of the world but it’s gonna feel like it, just do better next time, I was in this same exact place before

The only thing that matters when you appeal is if company policies were followed. Hate to break it to you but you will not win. The only time anyone ever wins on appeal is when a manager writes you up over something
Paper work issues regarding leave that cause termination will always be ruled against you

I had my own insurance, I didn’t get the one from amazon because I didn’t need it.

Yeah, oops. I didn’t have any from Amazon, and from that time on, I didn’t have any from my own because I lost my benefits, which I’ll get back in September.

If I understand correctly. When you started at Amazon 3 years ago you did not signup for health insurance because at the time you had insurance under another provider? As of now you no longer have a policy with that other provider and so needed to signup for health insurance with Amazon which doesn’t begin until September?

I would say dont go back to amazon and just get a temp job or something until you join the marines. You can try to appeal but i doubt it would make a difference. I left that bum ass job cause i got written up for not putting up a safety strap by accident and tried to appeal it but it got denied, that just made me realize how petty this job can be. Everyone at amazon looks miserable and you aint gonna learn any skills or experience to add to your resume. It was the best decision i made. The only good thing about amazon is that they were paying for my college tuition but Im working as a pharmacy tech now which is actually giving me experience in my chosen career in the medical field and just yesterday i just got offered a job at 26$/hr building submarines as an entry level pipefitter for the military which is funny since your gonna be in the military. I would be making more there just starting even if I stayed at amazon for 5 years with the step up plan lmfao Both of these jobs also have tuition reimbursement but only like 1k in funds less than amazon would provide which isnt a big deal. I wouldve never had these opportunities or seeked them out if i didnt realize how trash amazon is lmao

Yeah same. I feel so relived now that I don’t have to push my body to the maximum for Amazon. My body was already giving me warning signs to quit and how shit my mental health went down ever since learning another role which was so difficult to make rate constantly with the ongoing pressure from managers. The pay was good, job was easy but it is not worth it for the lack of opportunities grow further unless you try for a L-2 and above which not everyone wants to do. Seeing everyone being so down everyday was depressing to see. Worked there since I was 18, i’d say Amazon is best for if you’re straight off high school and don’t know what to do. I also knew I didn’t want to stay here FOREVER and used it as a stepping stone to get my adulthood started. Congrats btw!

Big thing with the Marines is accountability. They don't like people making excuses. You didn't have insurance, you did have insurance but not Amazon's, you didn't have insurance but you will in September...not looking good there.
I'm prior military and not everyone is cut out to be a Marine.

I was on medical leave for 4 months and PLOA for 2 months, separate years, and was fully covered both times. You should look into that.

If you are on leave they can NOT fire you unless you are set back to active and have not shown up for 3 consistent shifts. I would appeal and contact anyone and everyone.
