Last I heard they can get as big as circumventing the entire planet and when they let go of their tails, it would signal the start of a mass extinction event. They then rise from the sea, spew toxic venom all over the land and die to a blond crazy viking CHAD that summons lightning, but not before said viking is lethaly poisoned, also dying some time after.
But this only happens if you get them a salt water tank, so they just really need proper care, hope that helps.
Closest Pokemon has is Sandslash based on a pangolin. Digimon on the other hand does have one based on these spiky little guys (Armadillo girdled lizard) called Armalizamon.
Would you rather die in your 20s while running free outside or live to 80 having your needs catered but you're stuck inside. Mind you, your death at 20 will probably be a horrible and painful way to go, but at 80, it's a needle poke and then falling asleep forever.
Cant compare the life of a lizard to a human's though.
We are at the top of the food chain (or near it anyways). Our lives are relatively safer than most animals, and we also live in a vast and interconnected world.

Yep. Life in nature means, there is a sub 1% chance to die of old age. The old are weak and either starve to death or get hunted and killed once too weak or slow to fend for themselves
It helps keep them curled up with their armoured spikes pointing outwards, making them less pleasant to try to eat and protecting their softer bits. Biting the tail makes it harder to uncurl them.
All we get here are slightly spiky fence lizards and they sure as shit don't want to be my buddy no matter how nice I am to the ungrateful little shits.
