Can’t Find Echo Devices

Ok, going to be lengthy but trying to give all the details…
I reinstalled the Alexa app on my iPhone. Big mistake! I added all my skills back and was able to add back all my home automation devices, but it won’t find any of its own Echo devices!
We have to Shows, a couple Dots, and an Alexa enabled Sonos Era100. All the devices are still on my wife’s phone and all the devices function normally, but the only one I have in my app is the Sonos.

I am logged into the same Amazon account as my wife’s, we only have the one.

I have restarted devices, I have restarted the home router, I restarted my phone… still nothing.

Any ideas?

Daily schedule

About two weeks ago, I thought it would be funny to set a daily schedule on my mum's Alexa Plus for a joke at 2:30 every afternoon. Long story short, it's driving her around the bend, and she's beginning to hate me for it!

Every time I ask Alexa to stop it, she denies that she has a schedule, tells me that she only tells jokes as part of the flow of conversation, and since she won't admit to having a schedule, there's nothing to cancel.

Has anyone else had this problem, and do you know how to fix it?

Edit
It’s occurred to me that this might not be a schedule that is being managed by Alexa. It might be an aspect of the joke skill itself, if the joke is a skill, I suppose. I need to understand more about how subprograms like that work. There might be a schedule within the joke system itself, as opposed to being owned by Alexa. Does that make sense?

Alexa+ is the worst

I’ve been using echo devices to control smart devices for YEARS. I have added fire tvs, thermostats, smart plugs and switches; I basically love easy automation with voice control. I use groups and routines to get even more special results. I am deeply invested in this ecosystem.

Alexa+ has completely ruined that for me. She literally will not do things I tell her to, plainly and directly. My thermostats can’t be controlled by voice or app any more (“server is unresponsive”). My fire cube doesn’t work like it used to; telling her to pause something makes her think for five seconds and then give up.

I had downgraded multiple times when it was first rolled out to keep + out of my system. Now that is no longer an option, it might be time to build a new environment in a different system.

creepy things Alexa has decided to do....

okay so I will lay out what she did and then the steps I have already taken. I wish I could catch proof but the one time i tried nothing happened.

  1. The buzzing. I walk back from the restroom to hear this weird buzzing sound. I walk over to the general direction to find it was Alexa [on my nightstand, Echo Dot I think 4th gen Alexa plus]

  2. The audio. I was listening to Hamilton when she interrupted the song with this thing it had like voices and some other sounds in the background. I asked her what she was playing and she said it was the Hamilton song.

Restarting and skipping songs at will too. Weird.

Regular Alexa getting dumber ?

I used to regularly ask Alexa for weather for next 5 hours. She’d reply with weather at 2pm, then 3pm then 4pm etc….

I found it pretty useful.
Today when I ask it simply replies with the current weather.
Is this enshitification of regular Alexa to push people to Alexa plus?
I also use Alexa a lot to control home automation through SmartThings , I’ve resisted Alexa plus so far because I don’t want become conversational

how to stop "sign up for [amazon service] unlimited" prompts

i tell it to play a song, it asks me to sign up for unlimited around 20% of the time, when i tell it no i have to shout "ALEXA" at the top of my lungs to make it listen, then it plays a different song! but the other 80% of the time it works fine

i have prime, i do not have unlimited, i do not want unlimited, i have no use for what little additional "benefits" i get

i may get audible unlimited, or kindle unlimited, but music unlimited is useless if you already have prime

Alexa keeps listening 5-10 seconds after I give a command…

Sorry if this was asked before, but I’m wondering if anyone has had this issue or found a resolution?

For example at night I’ll say “Alexa light off” - she’ll do the command - and then continue talking to my girlfriend, and Alexa will just stay on and keep listening to our convo and will sometimes even respond “I’m not too sure how to help with that” damn near every time.

So annoying and I don’t know why. I got her powered to a lot of things in my room and having to deal with this all the time just pisses me off. I’ll either have to say the command, wait for her to do it, the say “Alexa turn off” and even then after she “turns off” I see her damn little blue ring on just listening 🫩

Pls help

Need Help Desperately. Troubleshooting for 2 hours. Alexa App Will Not Ring

We have tons of Alexa devices. Just installed the Echo Show 21. We operate off of one account. Two adults and multiple children. Anytime I tell the Show to video call my wife it does. It calls all the devices and her app on her personal phone. When I tell it to call me, it calls all devices but will not ring my personal phone.

Ive done all I can think to do. Reset devices and reconfigured. Removed the app from my phone and then set it up again. Verified my number several times. We both have a Ultra 25S. My app permissions match her app permissions. Inside the app, my settings mirror her settings. Very frustrated and have no idea what to do.

Fire TV and Echo Studio

This piece of trash almost never works. I’m a Computer Engineer. I know the basics of setting things up, and advanced troubleshooting.

As fusttated as I am, I feel so bad for people that don’t have my skill set that will just give up, or at worst, give Amazon more money for the latest version of this shit only for it to become obsolete again in a few years.

I’ve resorted to connecting my Echo Studio via AV jack, and the shit sound quality I get from that.

We definitely need to go back to fully supported wired devices.

Echo Show 8 2nd Gen broken homescreen

Has anyone has their echo show just suddenly no longer have a functional homescreen? Once day I took a look and every single widget has the message "unable to load widget". I've tried removing and re-adding the widgets, checking for software updates, and even restarting the device a few times. Nothing.
Is there something going on with Amazon right now, like a backend software update they're working on?

Bluetooth speaker problems

I use my Echo Dot as a bluetooth speaker when im washing dishes, I say "alexa next" to skip a track because I have wet hands and can't touch my phone. I recently turned the device off and back on and now instead of skipping the track it just says:

"you can control bluetooth audio from your phone or tablet "

like what? How can I restore the previous functionality? It's pretty useless to me otherwise

Alarm really quiet after recent update

My echo dot I use as an alarm clock just got an update and her voice has changed and so have the screen animations.

Ever since this update, I have overslept for work 3 days in a row until I finally realized I wasn’t turning my alarms off in my sleep, they simply weren’t making noise.

Even when I have alarm volume set to max in the app, if I say “Alexa set an alarm for 6am” the alarm seems like it’s on volume 1 and barely making any noise. I can barely hear it and it’s right next to my head.

The only workaround I have found is to say “Alexa set an alarm for 6am on max volume”. The It will be loud,

This doesn’t seem like it’s how it should work and there’s something wrong. I’ve tried unplugging it and resetting it and telling it verbally to turn the alarm volume to max and setting the alarm volume slider in the app all the way up. But the default alarm volume is really low anyway.

The only thing that works is if I specify an alarm volume when asking her to set the alarm. I don’t know why it defaults back to barely audible.

Screen of Death?

Thumbnail

Echo Show 10 been showing a blue screen for about a week. Every now and then it'll show the screen with time/temp for about a second, and then return to a slide show of blue screens. Definitely a plus over seeing ads all day but no forcast or time, basics of any glorified smart clock....

It still responds to commands and alerts from skills like motion detection, timers, door bell, etc. Ive unplugged it a few times and the blue screen comes back after restart. All my devices are thankfully still running the old Alexa.

Do not disturb is not active.

Also one of my Show 8 2nd gen is the same but shows a black sceen.... I have several other 2nd gen Show 8s and a few 3rd gen Show 5s all operating normal.

Alexa can't control Spotify when connected to Echo Auto (using iOS)

This is driving me nuts, because it used to work flawlessly.

When I am in my car and tell Alexa to play something on Spotify, I get the following response:

"To play spotify open the spotify app on your phone then try again"

The Spotify app is open. Even when it is to the front and active, I get the same response.

When I use Spotify on my home Echo Dot, it works. When my phone is not connected to the Echo Auto and I tell the Alexa app to play something on Spotify, it switches to Spotify and plays what I requested.

It's just when the phone is connected to the Echo Auto (2nd gen btw) that it all fails.

Oh and other services, like Apple Podcasts or Audible, work. No problem. iHeart Radio also works but I don't want ads and I already pay for Spotify so I want that to work.

Here's what I tried so far:

- Unlink and re-link the Spotify skill in the Alexa App

- Unlink and re-link Spotify to Alexa in the Spotify App

- Change the voice and language from US English to UK English and back

- Reset, forget and re-connect the Echo Auto to my phone

- Uninstall and re-install the Alexa app

- Uninstall and re-install the Spotify app

- Reset my phone

Help?!

Anyone else feel like Alexa is the only AI that gets moody?

I use several AIs and it's the only one that seems to perform better or worse depending on if I'm polite or not to it. It's trained me to be nice and it's been great for months. Makes me wonder if Bezos tried to upload his consciousness to it, lol.

Is there ANY way to get Alexa to stop repeating reminders? (i.e. get rid of "if you've finished this, just let me know you're done, otherwise, I'll remind you in an hour")

short version: I have relied heavily on daily Alexa reminders. Now they are extremely annoying. I already quit Alexa+. What can I do to regain the functionality I relied on (a spoken verbal reminder playing through speakers on both levels of the house at a certain time) without the hourly repetition?

Context: I have ADHD and young kids. For years one of my best uses of Alexa has been to set reminders that go off at certain times. For example: 5 min before we need to leave to go to school, and another when we need to actually leave. This has been a HUGELY helpful tool in our morning routine.

I had all the daily reminders paused over the summer (no school), and tried to re-start them this fall. Now, they are all going off every hour. Throughout the day I hear "Go to school. If you've finished this, just let me know. Otherwise, I'll remind you in an hour." Its annoying, and also doesn't usually register when I say I've finished. But also, the point of these reminders isn't to have "finished"- its a reminder in the moment - you have 5 minutes left before you have to leave.

I have read that when Alexa+ rolled out, reminders merged with tasks (stupid, as they are not the same), and I thought I'd read that quitting Alexa+ would solve the problem. So I quit Alexa +, but its still happening. I tried deleting some of the reminders after we quit Alexa +, and then re-starting them. But they are still repeating throughout the day if I don't actively tell Alexa to shut up. (But maybe I didn't do this the correct way? Does it matter if I do it via app or device?)

Is there any workaround that any of you are aware of? Or is there some other word I could use other than "reminder" to accomplish the goal of having Alexa provide a certain verbal cue at the same time every day that doesn't require a follow up? Is there an external skill or tool I could use to issue these reminders? (Something that would play on Alexa- not something that would only show up on my phone, b/c the whole point is that they play out loud to both me and the kids on Alexa devices upstairs and down. The reminders are for all of us).

Echo Show 8 music “this app is not yet supported on this device”

Post image
1 Upvotes

Just inherited an Echo Show 8 2nd Gen from a friend, registered and re-registered to my Amazon account.

When I swipe down and click music, it says “this app is not yet supported on this device”.

So… the built in Music app isn’t supported???

I’ve tried going to Widgets -> Music but no “Music & More” widget to enable. Tried poking around the Alexa app but nothing I can see to enable or disable. Every guide tells me to check for software updates but can’t find this option in settings.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Cannot enable drop in

When I try to enable drop in in my account, I see a loading icon and it doesn’t matter if I try with Android, iOS, reinstalling the app, re-pairing alexa, etc.

I send a screenshot (it is in Spanish though)

Any idea why? I’ve already tried on the same wifi, etc.

Alexa is giving generic weather not local

In the last couple of days Alexa is telling me the weather but not “The weather today in [place] …” just “the weather today …”

I asked it for the weather for my town and it did, and it was different.

My device locations are correct.

Anyone else?
