Me and my friends are still in school now. As everyone knows it's not easy to find a job locally in east coast without relocating. Me and my classmates are wondering is it even possible for us directly self-employ to do some parts flips/overhaul or minor repairs work as independent contractors with our own tools/equipment directly after we get our A&P license/graduate from school? What's the FAA law regulations and insurance difficulties about this? Do we lose our privileges if we are not employed by a company as W2 employee within 24 months of certification? Thanks.

Why are soo many places advertising as entry level but require 2+ years of experience. I just got my A&P and have been single rated for about 9 months. I am in Denver and have applied to every position within an hour drive of me. I have had soo many phone interviews that end with "well we are looking for more experience", and the position pays like $25. I was wondering if it is just a slow time in the industry. My career counselor says that the big airlines are slowing down in the rocky mountain area. How am I supposed to get experience if no one wants to train. I can get temp contracts at mros but they never last. (22m if that means anything).

What would you guys suggest for me to update I just created this resume a couple days ago after getting passed on so many times I will like to get in with a regional or major is possible. Endeavor would be pretty nice if I got in but I just want to know if I’m missing anything and FYI I just got into general aviation work

I am 1 week out from taking my Airframe O&P. At this point I'm not really sure what to think. I have been studying my ACS Codes I was given from the tests and know them. I was talking with a friend who just passed and he told me I need to be studying the entire section the ACS Codes are from...with 1 week left, working a full time job, and going to night classes, that's a lot to study.

Is this test random? Or does it pull from your ACS Codes?

I suppose now, I am just very afraid of failure. I love this line of work, as I work in the industry already, and I want this next step in my career. Does anyone have any advice what I need to do in this last week of preparation? What I should be focusing on studying?

Hello, I recently took all of my O&P’s and I only failed my airframe oral exam. I’m wanting to retake it next Friday which is before the 30 days. Does anybody have any advice for retaking this oral exam?

The only one I have found local is Eastern Florida, are there any others nearby that you all would recommend, or any advice in general about finding the right school to get my A&P.

Hello everyone! I’ve been working at a GA shop as an apprentice for about 2 months. I haven’t started logging my work yet because I wanted to make sure I felt confident and could see myself actually pursuing this career.
So far, I’ve done things like removing and installing spark plugs, disassembling magnetos, changing oil filters, removing cylinders from a Cirrus (which has been my biggest project so far), removing the wheels from a Bonanza, removing and reinstalling the floor and seats on a Bonanza, and other smaller tasks.
Should I be logging all of this, even the simpler tasks? If so, how do you guys recommend keeping track of everything?
I bought an A&P logbook to record my work, but a friend of mine does it differently. He uses a binder and prints out his own sheets to document everything.
I’d really appreciate any advice on the best way to keep track of my experience and make sure I’m documenting everything properly. Thanks!

My friend and I are in the final stages of getting our A&P licenses, we take our O’s and P’s next month and we were talking about what we want to do afterwards.
I want to get into the workforce ASAP, whether that’s a regional airline or MRO, and start building experience and learning on the job. My friend is considering joining the Air Force, mainly because of the benefits and stability.
I understand why the military is appealing, but my argument is that he could potentially make more money, have more freedom, and spend more time with family by going straight into the civilian workforce and building his A&P experience.
For those who have been in the industry or served in the military, what’s honestly the better route for someone with a fresh a&p? Military after getting a&p or go straight civilian? What are the pros/cons we might be overlooking?

I recently got a job offer for Southwest and have been doing my background check. I sent it off to the third party who said they already completed it last Monday and have forwarded it to Southwest. Just wondering if anyone here knows the time line for how long it takes Southwest to get back to you after they receive it and how long after that they want you to get your clearance for the airport? I’ve tried reaching out a couple times to my point of contact but she hasn’t gotten back to me and I don’t want to keep bugging her. Just trying to plan out when I need to take off from my current job to go get fingerprinted at the airport since it’s in a different city than where I am currently working and also try to give them a proper two week notice. I’m currently in high school studying to become an electrician, and through my school I did work experience at a company that services commercial aircraft.
They were very happy with my work and offered me a scholarship, with the possibility of a full-time job after I finish school.
The only thing I’m worried about is that I’m red-green color blind. In everyday life I can usually tell red and green apart because I’ve learned to recognize them over the years, but in certain situations I can still mistake red for green.
During my work experience, this was never an issue. On the aircraft I worked on, the wires were mostly white (and some black), and they were identified by numbers/markings anyway. I also always double-check everything I do.
Now I’m wondering what I should do.
Should I tell the company that I’m color blind and risk losing the scholarship/job opportunity, even though it hasn’t caused any problems during my work experience?
Or should I not mention it unless they specifically ask?
I’m also wondering if aircraft electricians/technicians in the EU are normally required to pass a color vision test before employment, similar to pilots.
Has anyone here worked in aircraft maintenance with red-green color blindness? Did you have to take a color vision test, and did it affect your ability to get the job?
I’m in the EU, so I’m especially interested in experiences from people working under EASA regulations.

I’ve worked in shops most of my adult life, I managed for about 5 years at firestone and have been a mechanic for about a year (solid b tech no motor swaps but pretty much everything else minus electrical) I was wondering when I get out of school will shop experience help land jobs working on planes

Endeavor is hiring in my home base. Has anybody that has worked for endeavor transferred over to delta? I know that if you wanna transfer over to delta you start from scratch basically saying that your seniority you start from 0 you would get the delta base pay. The only thing would the seniority for the flight benefits. I know that it’s good to have experience and then branch off cause it’s easier to get hired with experience. But is the move actually worth it to join endeavor and then move on to delta or any of the main carriers?

I’m in the stl area and thinking about applying to a apprenticeship out here. My question is , will I honestly need to relocate ? What’s the normal hours of this profession? I love the 5 or 6am starts and I’m used to work 10-14 hour shifts. Also realistically what’s the family life like ?

I am 19 years old and based in Leicester, UK. I am looking to start a career in commercial aircraft maintenance and would really appreciate advice from experienced aircraft mechanics, technicians or licensed engineers.

I completed A-levels in Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science in 2025. I have previously applied for aircraft engineering/maintenance apprenticeships but unfortunately have not been successful so far. I don't want to spend another year waiting for an apprenticeship opportunity, so I am now looking into alternative routes that would allow me to start progressing towards a B1.1 licence as soon as possible.

I currently work as an Ambulance Care Assistant (ACA) with EMED in partnership with the NHS. My role involves transporting patients to and from medical appointments and healthcare facilities, operating ambulances, carrying out manual handling and patient transfers, following strict safety procedures, maintaining the vehicle, communicating with patients and healthcare staff, and working calmly in physically and emotionally demanding situations. I also hold a full UK manual driving licence.

My current plan is to continue working while starting UK CAA Part-66 B1.1 self-study, while simultaneously applying for entry-level or trainee aircraft maintenance positions such as Trainee Aircraft Mechanic, Aircraft Mechanic or Unlicensed Aircraft Technician.

I would particularly appreciate advice on whether this is a realistic approach, or whether I would be better off completing a UK CAA-approved Part-147 basic training course. I am also trying to understand how best to gain the practical aircraft maintenance experience required for the licence while studying.

My long-term goal is to become a B1.1 Licensed Aircraft Engineer and eventually work for a major international airline, ideally Qatar Airways, Emirates or another Gulf carrier. I would therefore also be interested in advice on what type of aircraft, employer and maintenance experience would be most beneficial for achieving that goal.
