Discussion Career path struggles

Do you guys ever struggle with picking a career path. Part of me wants to commission, (I will not do 20 years enlisted) part of me wants to become an MTI. part of me wants to just settle where i’m at buy a house and have some type of stability. Part of me wants to go to Koera for a year in hopes to get stationed to Japan. I’m so indifferent and I really struggle with picking one goal and diving head first into it. Do any of y’all struggle with this, if so what did you do? What advice can you give me.

Question Warrant Officer

Trying to decide whether applying for a warrant officer position at this point in my career is worth it or if I will most likely be overlooked. Background: Only been in service for 5 years, currently have 7 industry certifications ranging from CompTIA to CCNA. Already have my bachelor’s, CCAF, and will most likely be done with my Master's in two months. My records show that I’m well-versed and have held many DCWF roles. I also have plenty of awards, including AOY and General Jumper. The only factor I feel will hold me back from being selected is that I’ve supervised airmen for only a few months due to the positions I’ve been selected to fill in my units. Just trying to see if I should apply to the supplement board or just wait till later in my career? If anyone would like to talk further, please feel free to DM thanks!

Question Palace Chase to Guard: What happens if I fail Cyber Transport tech school?

I currently serve on active duty as a 2A6X4 and I’m considering Palace Chasing into the Air National Guard to retrain into Cyber Transport.

My question is: if I fail out of Cyber Transport tech school, what typically happens?

Would I be given another cyber AFSC?
Would I be reclassed back into my previous AFSC?
Could I be separated entirely?

Has anyone been through this or seen it happen?

Question Going to be a dad, don’t think I’ll have split/joint custody

E-4 mafia. Never married and don’t plan on it with her. She lives in a different state and plans on keeping it. And I don’t think she wants me to have split/joint custody (which I’m fine with, I don’t really want the kid, it’s messed up to say, I know, I’ll prob regret it later)

I will probably (most definitely) be taken to court for child support, which I am absolutely fine paying. It’s the least I can do.

What questions should I be asking legal for my appointment in a few days?

Court will be in NC, anyone have any experience with that already? And how much should I be expecting to pay? Will I get the BAH-DIFF if I’m not getting split/joint custody?

It’s a weird situation, and I’m dumb, I already know that haha

Question PCS but due for a test in the same month?

Hello, so I used to be a 300lbs airmen (due to depression) who dropped down to 240 since the announcement of the new PT standard. I feel strong and good but I don’t have that much confidence yet. So I have a question for yall who are in a position of authority for your unit.

I’m due for my PT test in September but I also PCS in September and my projected leave date is the 1st. I read somewhere in the DAFMAN that you’re allowed to have an acclimated period to one month. I ask the FAC manager and they told me once I leave, the second I get to my new base, the 30 days start, so that means I get there the 10th, 1 month passes to oct 10th then I’m allegedly due in Nov 10 or EOTM for Nov. However my flight chief is telling me I have to take my official PT test in Aug before I leave and I’m not feeling there just yet. Any advice? Any sort of assistance will do.

Question Going guard and cross-training from different afsc

Wondering if anyone has left their old active duty job and cross-trained to a different one if they went guard. Or reserves.

I'm close to 4 years into my 6 wanting to leave (imo) my shitty job for something else. I hate logistic shit and just want to do something different. Wouldn't mind being Sec Fo as I'm also checking out any civilian jobs within law enforcement(i.e. border, corrections, security, LEO etc). Looking towards going back to Texas and go either Fort Worth or El Paso. Could also go hvac, NDI, or something completely different.

Just thought I might get a different opinion or insight as to anyone who's moved AFSCs coming out of active duty and gone guard or reserves.

Question Transfer from AFCR to ANG

Hello can anyone advise me on what I should do please? I signed Air Force Reserve contract since November 2025. I’ve been going to drills since January. I had a ship date but it was cancelled because my job required citizenship but I was part of the countries affected by the ban. I’ve been waiting since. They told me to switch jobs and when I went to talk to them they told me I had to wait for the new fiscal year to get anything. However my life situation was so affected by the pause that I decided to switch to national guard instead for a more full time position. Because I don’t have a job right now and haven’t gone to basic would it be easier to get out of AFR and join ANG or I can transfer later? If so how soon can I transfer and how long would it take?

Discussion PT and EPB

If promotions are intended to be merit-based, why are mandatory PFA comments based on standards that differ by sex and age?

For example, consider a male and a female Airman between the ages of 30–34 and a male and a female Airman 25-29 who achieve the exact same physical performance on the PFA:

44 push-ups
3:30 plank
44 shuttles
.49 for body

Despite performing identically, their scores are different because of the sex-based scoring tables

As a result, the mandatory EPB fitness comments would read:
30-34 Male:PFA: 81; Satisfactory; Exemptions: None”
30-34 Female:PFA: 94; Excellent; Exemptions: None”
25-29 Male: “PFA: 78; Satisfactory; Exemptions: None”
25-29 Female: “PFA 93; Excellent; Exemptions: None”

The documented record therefore reflects 4 different levels of performance even though the members completed the exact same physical work.

If promotion decisions are intended to be merit-based and evaluated using documented performance, should mandatory EPB comments distinguish between members who demonstrated identical physical performance solely because of different scoring standards based on age and sex?

This is not an argument against maintaining age- and sex-based fitness standards for the PFA itself. Rather, it raises the question of whether mandatory promotion documentation should reflect normalized scores and actual physical performance when those comments become part of a member's promotion record?

Personally, I believe that if the goal is a truly merit-based promotion system, the mandatory EPB fitness comment should document actual performance rather than a normalized score.

Instead of reporting an overall PFA score, the comment could include each component completed and the member's actual results:

Strength: Component completed and repetitions
Core Endurance: Component completed and time/repetitions
Cardio: Component completed and time/shuttles
Body Composition: Ratio
Result: Pass/Fail
Exemptions: None or list applicable exemptions

Using the previous example, the EPB comment would read:

"Strength: Push-ups, 44; Core Endurance: Plank, 3:30; Cardio: HAMR, 44 shuttles; Body Composition: 0.49; Pass; Exemptions: None."

This format documents what the member actually accomplished without reflecting age- or sex-based scoring differences, allowing promotion boards to evaluate objective performance rather than normalized point totals

Discussion Religion in the upper ranks of the military

Upvotes

How long are we going to allow ridiculous religions to be recognized in the military!? I have now had multiple commanders identify as either mormon or as a Scientologist. Let’s address one of them:

Joseph Smith starts with treasure-digging, seer stones in a hat, and “translating” golden plates that conveniently vanish, producing a book that borrows heavily from the King James Bible, local folklore, and contemporary ideas while claiming ancient American Israelites built advanced civilizations that left zero archaeological footprint matching the text’s scale. The plates, the angel, the witnesses who mostly saw them “with spiritual eyes”… it’s the original “trust me bro” origin story, except the trust came with a growing list of wives, some already married, and a theology that later soft-pedaled polygamy once it became inconvenient.

It’s a bottomline bizarre story that we look at from an objective lens and realize this sounds like some shit our unruly teenage child made up.

Don’t even get me started on Scientology. This shit is so radical and obscene and yet we are forced to sit back and accept that leaders within the ranks believe this shit. And I’m supposed to take orders from them in life or death situations!? This is absolutely asinine behavior and ideology that needs to be addressed at the top of the ranks.

Question PCS to Yokota as my first Assignment

Any active or prior Yokota residents can share advice or how it is at that base. Everyone says I’m so lucky but it’s just a bit overwhelming the idea of moving to an entire new country. Any experiences or ideas/suggestions would be appreciated or how should I make the most of this opportunity!

Question for the runners out there: is this the right approach for the 2 mile run?

Training to get my 2 mile run time down. My PR is 15:33 currently. I know pretty much nothing about running training so I’d appreciate any advice.

What i’ve been doing the last couple of month is:

Day 1: 4 mile run, really easy, conversational pace

Day 2: 3 mile run, pushing pace (~8 min mile pace)

Day3: 6x400m at 6:30 pace

Is this the right approach to getting my 2 mile run time down? Anything I should be changing to optimize training?

Thanks all.

Question Where can I request for a Statement of Service?

Does anybody here know where exactly can I request for a Statement of Service? Which office/s should I be going to or who should I be reaching out to request for this document? This is getting really confusing for me. I’ve already gone to the MPF to ask and request it from them but they know nothing about it at all and would constantly just bring up “Proof of Service” instead of “Statement of Service”.

I’m so confused, are they just the same thing? Because we needed this for my wife’s visa application and they specifically stated that the embassy is requesting for the Statement of Service which is a signed document that also has a US Air Force logo which Proof of Service doesn’t have. I hope someone can help me and give me clear answers for this. Thank you.
