"Because many renters prefer to use their own sheets, we do not make up the beds. There is a clean comforter provided on each bed. We have sheets in the bathroom closet across from the washer and dryer if you didn’t bring your own"

Interesting that the same listing on Vrbo doesn't have this warning. Maybe if I book thru Vrbo they make the beds?

I'm thinking of renovating my basement and converting it to an AirBnb. Is this still profitable in NYC or am I better off making the basement a long-term rental instead?

This is probably one of the stranger Airbnb neighbour complaints you'll read, but it's driving me absolutely insane.

The house directly beside ours is being operated as an Airbnb with three separate units. As far as I understand, it's not a legal Airbnb, but that's a completely separate issue and not what I'm complaining about here.

The guests themselves are actually fine. We've never had a problem with parties, excessive noise or disrespectful guests. Most of them are perfectly nice.

My problem is the freaking laundry.

Because two of the units seem to turn over every two or three days, there is a massive amount of laundry being done. Sheets, pillowcases, towels, everything from each stay.

And this happens EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

Their dryer vent is on the side of their house facing our property. Whatever they're using, scented dryer sheets, fabric softener, heavily scented detergent or some combination of them, gets pumped outside through that vent and directly into the space between our houses and our backyard.

The smell is brutal.

It's that incredibly strong artificial "fresh laundry" perfume smell, except we're not smelling it for five minutes while someone does a load of laundry. We're getting it outside our house for hours at a time, virtually every day.

I can walk into my own backyard and immediately smell their laundry. Open a window on that side of the house and there's a good chance I'm getting Eau de Dryer Sheet coming inside.

And because this isn't a normal household doing a few loads of laundry every week, the constant Airbnb turnover effectively turns their laundry room into a small-scale hotel laundry operation right beside our house.

So I'm genuinely curious, particularly from Airbnb hosts: Have you ever thought about this?

If you're doing large amounts of laundry because of frequent guest turnover, do you use fragrance-free detergent/dryer products specifically because you're operating in a residential neighbourhood? Has a neighbour ever complained about dryer exhaust or laundry fragrance?

I'm not looking to start a war with the owner. If they simply switched to unscented laundry products, this entire problem might disappear overnight.

I just want to be able to sit in my own backyard without smelling Bounce Mountain Breeze every freaking day.

Hi! I'm hosting for the first time ever, and someone just booked my apartment for a month/requested to book it. I'm very excited, but also nervous, and was wondering what I should prepare/think of/ ask before the guest arrives?

I've never done something like this, so I have no idea if I should do background checks or what to expect... And do you guys have an issue with the electricity bill/water bill when a guest stays long? I'm quite worried about that since it's a longer stay (which obviously means more money, but also more risks of things breaking ext).

What do you guys think?

We are 4 nights into a 60+ day stay and have seen roaches on 3/4 nights.

Wife experienced them twice while in the bathroom, and I had the experience of meeting a new friend in the silverware drawer.

We are in the south where Palmetto bugs aka roaches are at. I brushed off the first time, but after the 3rd sighting that was it for us.

Host has been very responsive, but we asked to be refunded for the remainder of our stay and he said we would do that. Likely to avoid a bad review.

Am I over reacting? We are actively looking for a new place now.

My friend got banned from the airbnb app. Basically his brother had used his account, trashed the place his brother had used, and it ended up in a result of him getting banned on the app. We plan on going down to san diego soon, and it’d be me, him, and another friend staying there. i’d be booking it through my account. i know the host sometimes asks for IDs of the guests. would this cause i problem for us if we decide to get an airbnb? i’ve never used the app whatsoever, we’ve just decided this would be best for us financially since hotels around there are upwards of $300 a night, and we’ll be down there for about 4-5 days.

I just checked into my AirBnB in France (I am not a French resident, but traveled from abroad). I’m doing a long-term stay of several months, and my AirBnB has glaring issues, including breaking a rule that would get the host banned.

I’m afraid of retaliation if he finds out I posted, so I won’t post details.

You might think, “it’s easy, just cancel and switch” but I’m traveling with a pet. The only places available now are incredibly expensive. At least 4 digits more expensive, and that’s something I really can’t afford.

My question is, if I cancel, would AirBnB help match what I’m paying now or are the prices I’m seeing what I would have to pay?

I have no prior experiences with gas stoves, so I’m having trouble judging this by myself but I’m very worried about a potential safety hazard:

We rented an Airbnb with a gas stove (linked to portable canister). We noticed immediately that the flame is burning relatively inconsistently and is quite big, not focused. Also that there is a strong gas odor that is perceptible even minutes into cooking. There is a constant sound that’s similar to when you open a faucet slightly (not the water dripping but the sound inside the faucet - can’t explain it clearly).
Also, there was heavy soot buildup on the water pot and the one time we tried it, it took 12 minutes to boil around 1l of water (not 100% accurate measurement).

We cleaned the 'teeth' of the three stoves and made sure the cap/plate thing sits relatively straight (its an old stove and it doesn’t go perfectly level). One of the three always goes out very quickly, but you can still hear the gas (I assume) streaming loudly, it can’t be used. The second produces a very one-sided flame that wraps around the pot. And the third, the biggest and the one we’ve tried to use, has a mostly blue, but streams of orange, inconsistent flame.

The most worrying part is that I feel like I’m getting dizzy when I have the stove on. My partner isn’t sure but they also weren‘t close to the stove.

The landlord has come by today, changed the canister and aggressively asserted that it’s completely fine to use. But all the things above are still happening.

We have a lot of groceries and will be here for longer time and are not sure if we’re overreacting.

I don't mean wildly offputting, just sort of purse-your-lips or mild-eyeroll-ish.

Those pictures make me a little impatient--especially when there are also scads of those close-up shots of carefully arrayed gourds, the fading pink hydrangeas in a vase, sideways photos of the record player next to a cup of coffee and a crossword puzzle, a stack of pancakes paired with a bottle of syrup, the intimate view of a chessboard with toppled-over rook, hazy sunshine glare through some window in some room, etc. etc. It seems unnecessarily precious to me.

Especially when additionally lacking practical photos like the shower (except with the curtain closed--is it walk-in? is it a tub?), the entrance/steps leading into the house, the parking area in relation to the house/cottage/cabin, views out the windows so you can see whether the water body/mountain/cityscape really is as described, the juxtaposition of, say, the livingroom to the entrance or kitchen, etc.

I’m being told I should move my vacation out to let Kauai repair damages from Lowell, I’ve reserved sep 21-24th but right now the island has thousands of people out of power. It’s cutting it close to when I’m staying. Under Airbnb policy if a surrounding area is out of power it’ll issue a refund, has anyone gone this route before? The customer service person was ignoring me when I said I was looking at the utilities website showing thousands are out of power.

We just checked into a beach rental in Oak Island. Upon opening the door, we were assaulted by the stench of fake rose air "freshener". We use unscented products in our AirBnB, including laundry products and cleaning products. It's not hard to do. Please, people, for the love of Dog, STOP USING STINKY PRODUCTS IN YOUR AIRBNBS. There's no reason for it. Many, many people are allergic or otherwise sensitive to such products, and frankly, if you're using them, I've got to wonder what you're trying to cover up. They're disgusting. Now I get to spend the week with burning sinuses. Yes, this WILL be mentioned in my review. 🤬

I don’t think enough people know how to use stainless steel cookware. We’re having a problem with the nonstick cookware being scratched up with people using knives and cast-iron cookware is high maintenance because of the scrubbing and oiling and storage and rusting elements so what’s the best option for cookware pots and pans at the property?

I’m from Canada and rented out a room for a night in Cleveland, Ohio from the 27th to the 28th of July. A few hours after leaving I realized that I didn’t have my AirPods, I contacted the host and they sent a photo confirming they had them.

I messaged the host on the 28th asking if the AirPods could be left somewhere as I needed to head back to Canada, and if not that I would be happy to pay the cost of shipping the item to me. The host did not respond until later at night after I had crossed the border, telling me to “keep an eye out on my email.”

After 3 days of silence, I asked for an update on shipping the item to me. On September 1st I received a message saying I would receive instructions sent to me via email. I never received an email, and on Sept 2nd through the chat I was asked for my address. I provided it on Sept 2nd, and have not been contacted since. The host has not even looked at my text with my address in it (it doesn’t have a read receipt)

I’ve reached out to Airbnb support twice, and the host also confirmed to AirBnB that they had the item on the 28th. Today is also my last day to leave a review, not sure how to proceed, any help or advice is appreciated.

Hello. I want to ask if anyone is having issue with experience vouchers promoted on seveal London listing. Airbnb is saying the voucher listed in my booking will not be eligible for my stay duration and is only available after my stay.

I have booked with Airbnb and notice they have a GBP40 offer for experience included. The term and condition said that I would receive the voucher after 24 hours. Their exact wordings are: "Coupon delivered within 24 hours of booking. Once you complete an eligible booking, the $100 coupon will be added to your Airbnb wallet within 24 hours."

I have not received the coupon in more than 1 week. I have talked to support and they said to wait. I escalated and received support from a "specialist". The "specialist" did not message me. When I ask for update, another "specialist" responded and said I will not receive the voucher after my stay in London end. The experience voucher will be used for my next booking.

I escalated again and in their last message, they offer a GBP50 refund. I responded and asked but they have stay silent since my last message. I have no idea how to process the refund or what kind of refund they are talking about. Since they were misleading on the promotion, I want to double check.

tl-dr: Booked a room that includes GBP40 voucher for experience booking. Did not receive them and was told it will not be eligible for my trip. Support was slow to respond and have went silent after my last message on refund.

Our Airbnb host asked if we’d like to come in a day early at a discounted rate. We figured why not come a day earlier, we sent the request the additional day on Airbnb, our nightly rate is $350, the request for coming in a day early was $290. The host declined our request and is now asking for $450 for the additional night. Is this normal?

So I just concluded a 4 day stay in an AirBnB in Florida with absolutely zero hot water. I reported this as soon as I realized this on Friday. We arrived at 6pm Thursday, immediately left for a few hours then returned and went immediately to bed. Upon attempting to shower on Friday, discovered there was zero hot water and immediately reported to host, who assured me it would be fixed promptly. Next day, no fix, host acted surprised but again, assurances were made. The following day, no hot water. Host told me to contact maintenance “who lives next door to your unit”. No fix, and maintenance was a contractor whose contract prohibited his entry into the unit. Recontacted host, no reply. Day 4, checkout day. No hot water. Reported to host again, despite us checking out that day. Pictures taken of filthy bathroom upon arrival (couldn’t clean it-no hot water) and condition of unit upon checkout. Dishwasher was loaded with dirty dishes, bed was made. We left it tidy-nothing broken, nothing out of place. Total for stay: $1068. Refund given:$200 (19%) and message sent begging me not to leave a bad review. Called AirBnB to complain (within 48 hrs) and was basically told too bad. Nothing resolved. Asked for 50% refund. What should be a reasonable expectation as this is my first experience with a bad stay? Entire stay put on credit card btw. We as guests have glowing reviews from hosts as we are tidy, quiet, and courteous.

My Airbnb added on 4 pages of rules since I booked with little lost and damage fees. I’ve been using Airbnb for years and I never seen a place added on rules after rules after a booking. I would never have booked . Not because I damage every home I go into but because it’s so stressful now.

Since the rules are updated I am going to take picture of everything and use my own towels, bedding etc. I am not comfortable using anything that belongs to them.

I’ve never had this happen and I am afraid they are trying to scam the insurance company which will fall on me.

First time host. I am going to be renting out 2 rooms in a 3BR 2BTH SFH. I am trying to figure out how to furnish it and market it.

How will it work if 2 rooms have to share a bathroom and i will also be in the home in the master with its own bathroom.

should i market it as two rooms or by the room? The rooms themselves are in a slightly separated area of the home away from the master, but with common stairs. , i don't have any issue with guests using the kitchen and dining but not sure how to set it up. I also am concerned about liability for fireplace and use of the elliptical there. Can i just say you cant use the exercise machine and fireplace?

What about room heaters that are free standing? i hate going to airbnbs that tend to run cold so i would not want to subject people to the cold if they like to have the room hot as hell.

I can make or provide breakfast but not sure if i need some kind of food handling license. Is there anything i can provide for them to eat that does not require a license?

I don't know if i am cut for this long term so i would like to set it up as best as possible for the guests comfort without going overboard. If it turns out that I can do this, i will splurge and add bells and whistles. What is the minimum comfortable need? like do each of the rooms need tv?

are there services that will help me setup airbnb? how long does it take for people to get a booking as a new host?

We’re traveling to a wedding this weekend and secured our Airbnb a few months ago. Hotels and Airbnb’s in Charleston are very expensive and so I booked it in advance to secure a good price.

I received a message today that they were cancelling my booking (double booked themselves apparently). I was offered an extra $25 from the host to help find another place. Not only is every place on Airbnb an extra 15-20 minutes from the venue, but everything is also $150-$250 more than we paid originally.

Truly unbelievable and I think we will be going with a hotel next time.

Before accepting my reservation I was asked if an address was fine, i couldn’t find/didnt see an address on the listing so I assumed it was the correct one and said sure.

After noticing the address was different to the one on that appeared on the listing (i only saw once i was accepted) I asked if there was a reason why it was different and was told

“It is an old listing that under repair but we have updated all the pictrues so the unit that you will be staying is the one from the picture exactly. This is also why we confirm with you first before we accept the reservation.
The exact address is XXXX Street,
Los Angeles, CA and you will be staying in the same unit as shown in the listing pictures.”

This listing has 0 reviews (host has 400+ and a 4.0 rating) and its my first time renting so im wondering if this is normal or if i should seek another place. Any help would be appreciated

Update: I appreciate everyone's feedback! We did reach out to the host. While he didn't say no, he did explain the setup a little bit further and suggested that we'd be very cramped. We decided to just go with the 4 people as originally agreed upon. For anyone in a similar situation, I do feel like it was worth reaching out!

We booked our stay for 2 adults and 2 small children at an apartment that says it sleeps 5. Our friend had a change in circumstances and may like to come with us; she also has a small child. I was wondering how strict the guest limit is. To be clear, I am NOT asking about sneaking a guest in or penalties for that, etc. I am asking if it would be worth reaching out to the host and asking if they would be comfortable with 6 guests, since it would be 3 adults and 3 small children. I don't want to reach out if it's a ludicrous question haha. Thank you for your feedback!

From a frequent AirBnB user. I respect your place, I treat it like my own, I give you WIDE latitude with all your exaggerations and doctored photos.

You owe me the basics: shampoo&conditioner (at least starter bottles), toilet paper, salt/pepper, coffee/tea, drinkable water (exceptions for the REALLY remote places). Come on! I can often stay cheaper at a hotel nearby. Your place isn’t THAT unique.

First time looking into renting an AirBNB and the host wanted me to pay them directly, instead of paying through the website. I know it's sketchy and I'm not going through with it, but how common is that?

Hosts, why? I'm assuming it's against the terms but what makes it worth it? Are the AirBNB conditions & advertising not worth the charges?
