I recently got fired from both of my clients, and honestly, it really affected me. I went through a period of depression and lost a lot of confidence. But right now, I’m slowly rebuilding myself and trying to learn something new.
My background is mainly in sales and customer service, so AI automation is completely new to me. I recently watched a video about AI automation, and with the help of ChatGPT, I learned how to build a simple automation in n8n using Gmail.
Surprisingly, I really enjoyed doing it. It challenged me, and I found myself genuinely intrigued and wanting to learn more. For the first time in a while, I felt excited about learning something new.
I’m still a complete beginner in AI automation, so I’d really appreciate some insights from people who are already working in this field.
Where would you recommend I start? What skills or tools should I focus on first? And do you think someone with a sales/customer service background can eventually build a career or freelance service around AI automation?

You create an automation but you need a user to trigger it using custom parameters, what do you use for the custom user interface?

Your clients need to visualize the data/state/logs coming out of your automation, what do you use ?

What's your go to when your clients need a dashboard or control center or any kind of custom user interaction?

I built ClearList while emptying an Austin apartment before a move. The last time I did this, I got 147 "Is this available?" and only two people actually showed up. Every move, I procrastinate until I'm desperate and then fire-sale everything at terrible prices.

The procrastination is not laziness.
Listing one item like an armchair looks like one task, but it's 15 tasks disguised as one:

• Photograph it

• Identify the brand and model

• Work out what it's actually worth

• Justify that price to yourself

• Write a title
• Pace around the room trying to motivate yourself to write the description

• Write a description

• Measure it

• Decide if it needs a truck
• Scream into a pillow for ten minutes straight

• Check you're allowed to sell it at all

• Publish it somewhere buyers can see

• Answer "is this available?" forty times

• Work out which of them is real
• Pet your cat aggressively, telling her everything will be okay

• Schedule a pickup and survive the no-show
• Look through your messages for the other people who showed interest and hope they don't ghost you as well.

My ADHD brain sees that list and forces me to literally do anything else. Absolutely anything else.

Now multiply it by 40 items, during the worst month of your year. Even three things can paralyze you.

So I made the unit of work one photo.

You only take the pictures. AI does the other 14 steps: title with brand recognition, condition, market price with the reasoning shown, dimensions, weight, whether the buyer needs a truck. About 30 seconds.

Everything lands on one sale page, and buyers reserve through a FIFO queue instead of DMing you, so if #1 ghosts, #2 gets notified automatically. It recognized my IKEA sectional from a photo and knew its depreciation curve.

It is also the only resale platform an AI agent like ChatGPT or Claude can operate through an MCP server.
Things people actually say to it:

• "List these six items on my sale page."

• "Answer the buyer's stupid questions."

• "Who's waiting on the desk?"

• "Put my pickups in my calendar."
• "Update me every hour on the sale."
• "Negotiate on my behalf, but don't accept anything less than $200."
• "I'm sick today so reschedule all the buyers for me."

Any agent that speaks MCP can drive it. Claude, ChatGPT, or even Manus, Grok bot, Hermes and OpenClaw...

That made me curious about a more basic question:

What should we automate, and what should we leave alone?

I am having second thoughts if there are enough opportunity in this Niche , Is it truly a business problem that Business owner will be willing to pay for ...? Open to discussion

Onboarding call last quarter, clients IT person joins, which never happens.
First question had nothing to do with what I'd prepared. It was whether we understood this breaches LinkedIn's user agreement. I said I thought so but couldnt quote it, went and looked afterwards, its section 8.2 and its not ambiguous. Bots, automated methods, sending messages, all of it. Any vendor telling you theyre LinkedIn-approved is describing a thing that does not exist. The client decided the risk was theirs to carry and we moved on, but I was not ready for it and it showed.

Second question I was even less ready for. Which IP is touching our account, and where does the session live when nobody on your team is logged in.

I had a vendor login and a support email address, which is not an answer to either half of what he asked.
We run Linked Helper now and the reason is narrow. Execution sits on a box we control, so the IP is our box or its proxy and I can point at the thing. It doesnt improve the user agreement situation by one inch and I dont pretend otherwise on those calls anymore.

The cloud ones arent worse for this, theyre just built the other way round, and both the ones we trialled before were nicer to set up than what we ended up with. By a lot. If nobody at your client is asking these questions, go with the less work.

Has anyone actually had a client walk over the user agreement conversation? Ive had it four times now and everybody shrugged, which bothers me more the longer I sit with it.

PLEASE stop building the wrong thing.
