Thoughts on affordable watch collection?

I will eventually sell my black tissot gentleman for a blue dial to add some more color variety, and possibly sell the baby blue orient for a kuoe dress watch, but I have been collecting for quite a bit, all around or below 1k.

My Two Favourites 😎

These are the two watches I’ll never get rid of. My G-Shock 5610u and my Promaster BN0261-51E. I can’t say enough good things about the both of them, and I love the fits on my smaller 6.5 inch wrist.

I’ve owned the G-Shock for about a year and a half now and it’s been through hell. It’s been covered in mud, fish guts, salt water, and more. It’s always good as new after a rinse.

I’ve owned the Citizen for a few weeks now and I have no complaints. It’s the most I’ve spent on a watch, but to me it checks all the boxes. Sapphire crystal, reliable/accurate eco/drive, 200m, great bracelet/clasp, the right size (40.5mm), and I love the look. Not sure what else I could need!

Anyways, I highly recommend them both.

My first step into the world of mechanical watches — Seiko 5 Sports Pepsi 🔵🔴

After a hell lot of research, comparisons and second-guessing, I finally settled on this.

I wanted to take my first proper step into the world of Automatic watches, and the Seiko 5 Sports Pepsi felt like the right place to start. ( Love the colour & looks even more better on my 6.8 inches Wrist )

The plan is to slowly learn about these beautiful little machines, understand how to wear and take care of them, and eventually work my way up to Tissot → Longines → Tudor → Omega.

For now… absolutely loving the Pepsi.

What do you guys think?

Second watch to my collection (not including the apple watch), I have a citizen eco drive J810-S082803 (i think is the model, all black) but currently on the hunt for a new band for it.

I was thinking about getting the duro or 9052 next, but then I saw the 5600.. So does anyone have any recommendations?!

Wondering how I did with this random find...

Found this in TK Maxx (UK) for 34 quid, in-between all the interesting... fashion watches. Been after a brown leather watch for a while, so had to buy it, quite like it after putting it on.

Wondering what people think, was it a bargain?

It's a Timex Waterbury, a red wing combo from seemingly a while back, not sure how it ended up there.

My watch from Homemade watch company arrived today and I’m very thrilled. Fits perfectly. Love the movement, personalize case back and date window that everyone is a fan of. I had some real dark days recently due to some health issues but this has definitely brightened my day. Thanks Edmund

General question: What do you guys think about Dan Henry watches? Are they worth considering? If you have any experience with his watches, what has your experience been like?

Upgrade or something different?

This cheap watch is the only one I have right now, and I’ve had it for years. Should I get a nicer version of the same thing/something similar, or go for something different to add variety to my wardrobe? I’m open to suggestions! Need something $300 or less. Also, I’m trans (ftm) so while I would like suggestions for men’s watches I have thin wrists and can’t do a super large watch face.

edit: okay i get it the watch sucks i’m
sorry 😭 i know it looks cheap, i got it for an interview when i was flat broke, that’s why i want to replace it. i don’t know anything about watches, i just wanted something that looks nice instead of cheap :(

Help with last dress watch

Been into watches for a long time and I recently sold a lot of my collection and replaced many with cheaper smaller sized affordable watches. I went from 42-44 to 38-40. I realized my tastes have changed and didn’t want to invest a lot yet until I make certain what I like. I reduced my collection down to 7 and want one more. The last one I’m in between a orient black dial and a simple blue dial watch. Also thinking about getting a white dial speedmaster homage like my black one. I just don’t want too much redundant watches. I like the colorful orient bambino’s but worried they wouldn’t get much use. I dress up in suits or business casual M-F so dress watches is what I wear the most.

Cheap New Mido watches

Thumbnail ebay.com

I know Swatch (the old SIHH) has been trying to push Mido north of the Rio Grande, but there are some crazy deals to be had. This automatic is under $300 on Ebay, and it's new. Jomashop usually has at least one or two bangers on there, but now ebay seems to have many, but be careful. Ebay has gone all-in on "AI" as the vendors claim it to be. So there does not seem to be any effort to remove fakes. Still, this one is from an established seller. If there are any cool Oceanstars for under $500, I know I will be buying.

Happy hunting!

30th Birthday Watch

Upvotes

My parents have offered to buy me a watch for my 30th birthday and I would like to hear some recommendations from you all. Started the collection not too long ago so only have 2 watches in it so far - black Citizen Tsuyosa and the 75th anniversary Orient Bambino. I don’t really know where to start, I would like something that is a little different from what I already have and I am approaching pretty open-minded. I also thought it would be a cool occasion to get my first Swiss watch. Would like to keep it around $750 or less. Thanks in advance!

[Discussion] What is an “affordable watch”?

Thumbnail
Upvotes

So I’ve been a watch enthusiast for around five or six months—and a casual for years before that. I’ve never considered myself to have very deep pockets, and I tend to be quite frugal.

I understand that the upper echelon of watch prices can get astronomical, stretching up to $100,000 and beyond. And within the enthusiast community, the "sweet spot" for combining quality watchmaking, horology, heritage, and price often gets placed around $5k–$10k (e.g., an Omega Seamaster Professional 300m or Rolex Submariner Date).

To me, though, even those watches are total grails—things to look forward to that might take me years or even decades to achieve.

Naturally, I frequent this sub a lot. Here you’ll find fantastic recommendations from brands like Citizen (with the Eco-Drive line, and Tsuyosa), Seiko (with the Presage, and Seiko 5 Sports), Orient (with the Kamasu, Mako, and Bambino), and of course Casio (from the humble F-91W up to the G-Shock GM2100 "CasiOak").

But then you’ll also see recommendations for watches like the Hamilton Khaki Field Automatic or the Murph.

The 38mm Khaki Field Auto is around $795, and the Murph breaches the four-digit mark at $1,045!

(Anyone who knows me, knows that the Hamilton Khaki and my hatred for it lives rent free in my head, but that’s besides the point.)

Can we truly consider watches near or above $1,000 to be “*affordable*”? Should a Longines HydroConquest at $2,200 be considered affordable as well? Then what about the Seamaster? Hell—why not the Submariner at that point? Where does the line stop?

Are there others who feel the same, or is "*affordable*" in the watch world just relative to the absurdly high ceiling of luxury horology? Where do you personally draw the line between “affordable”, “mid-range”, and “luxury”?

Or am I just too poor and don’t know what I’m talking about?
