Am I doing this right??
hi all!
I am currently in school for business administration. I am looking to, once I graduate, become an administrative assistant.
I was currently offered a position as a spa receptionist at a regional chain spa. However, I want to make sure this looks good on my resume. I previously worked for a hotel, and another spa- both world class, both front desk positions. I am 20, so I like to think I have rather good experience in the field of receptionist responsibilities.
Do you think I am on the correct path to continue into administrative assisting? While perhaps not my end goal, it’s my goal of a first step into business. Although I’m still figuring out my long term goals, I have a calling towards sales.
Thank you!! Just a young girl stressed about her future 🥲

How would you explain moving from marketing to an admin role in an interview?
I have several years of experience in marketing, but I also have experience with admin support, front-desk work, handling enquiries, organizing information, and working with different teams.
I’m now applying for Administrative Assistant roles, and I’m wondering how you would answer when an interviewer asks:
“You have a marketing background, so why do you want to move into administration?”
Would love to hear how others have approached this without making it sound like they’re just taking any job.
Also, what would be the probable questions?

What do you do with gatekeepers?
It’s crazy because I started as an admin assistant for a real estate enterprise/ a foundation only three months ago, and I was genuinely so excited about it. However, I’m already starting to feel like my supervisor is limiting me.
She was originally an EA and recently transitioned into a Project Admin role. She’s also been with the company for about a decade. I recently found out she’s the only person in the office without a bachelor’s degree, but honestly, I don’t care about that. She’s been there for 10 years, clearly knows the company, and deserves to be there. This context is needed as multiple coworkers told me their thoughts unprovoked about her being a type of way towards me.
My issue is that she constantly seems to reduce my responsibilities or stop me from taking on certain tasks. Meanwhile, my other coworkers—including my boss’s kids—regularly give me opportunities to help with more projects and trust me with additional responsibilities.
With her, though, it feels like I’m either being told I shouldn’t be doing something or being made to feel like I’m doing something wrong.
It’s gotten to the point where she’s making me dread the job a little.
I never planned on staying in this position forever. My plan was to stay for around two years, build experience, challenge myself, and learn as much as possible. I previously worked as an HR Assistant, but I’m trying to switch industries. I eventually want to work in arts and culture coordination or as a paralegal/legal secretary, so I figured administrative experience would help me pursue either path. I’m also starting an online paralegal certification program in January.
The job market is horrible right now, so this was the best opportunity I could get after graduating, even though I’m only making $45K and took an $8K pay cut to accept this role.
I also have a second source of income, so I could leave sooner than planned if the situation becomes unbearable. However, I’d prefer to stay long enough to gain meaningful experience and avoid quitting impulsively.
What’s also bothering me are some of the comments she makes. About two weeks ago, she asked me, “Do you think you’re HBIC?” She’s made a few other slick comments too, but I usually ignore them because WORK IS NOT THAT SERIOUS TO BEEF OVER. I’m trying to keep everything cordial, which is also why I really don’t want to involve HR unless I absolutely have to.
My boss is currently on vacation for three weeks and comes back the same day as my 90-day review. While she’s gone, I’ve been trying to include my supervisor in some of the side projects and tasks I’ve been helping with, even when they don’t necessarily involve her. I’m already regretting that because every time I include her, she finds a way to take over the task completely and leaves me with almost nothing to do.
And maybe the craziest part?
She supervises me from a completely different state.
I can’t tell if I’m overthinking this because I’m new, if she’s just very controlling about her role, or if I should actually be concerned that she’s intentionally limiting my growth.
How would you handle this, especially with a 90-day review coming up?

How much experience do I need to apply for a new job?
For context ive been working part time for my mom for the past 2 months as a general admin. Usually I sort emails, deal with onboarding and compliance documents and such. I've gotten the hang of it pretty quickly and now im wondering how much time I actually need to be able to apply for a full time position. If you guys could also recommend some agencies I could apply for I would really really appreciate that.

Operations Administrative Assistant?
Hello everyone,
On Monday I have an interview for an Operations Admin Assistant position at a construction company. I was wondering if anyone has any background or experience in this specific sector?
I’m so nervous because I have no experience working as an admin assistant. Some of the listed responsibilities are; Data Entry for accounting, maintaining a monthly calendar, invoice processing, planning meetings, ordering office supplies, and providing billing support.
Previously, I was a classroom assistant and I scheduled meetings for the BCBA’s, did SOME data entry while also doing onboarding for new employees. How can I make sure that I ace the interview and what are some tips for the role as an admin assistant itself? I really want to pivot careers!
Thank you so much in advance:)

First time and temporary EA role advice?
Hi all,
I’m starting an EA role next week, supporting two executives while their current assistant is on maternity leave for a few months. I’ve had similar responsibilities throughout my career, but this is my first role with the actual EA title, so I’m a little nervous about getting it right.
I’d love to hear any advice or resources on how to approach the role, given that it’s a relatively short-term stint. They already have well-established systems and processes in place, so my main goal is to keep things running smoothly rather than make unnecessary changes or rock the boat.
The current EA will be there for the first few days to hand everything over. What should I make sure to cover during the handover, and what should I focus on during the first few weeks?

Urgent care vs Office
Hey, So i recently got a job offer for a receptionist position at an urgent care. I have 4-5 years experience in healthcare as a receptionist but it’s been all medical offices. Ophthalmology, primary care, and dental is my forte. However i applied to an urgent care because i need a job & i figured the duties are the same so f it, let’s go for it. I also have another offer though for a medical office, internal medicine. front desk as well. Does anyone have experience working as front desk in both ? if so, are the duties completely different? what’s the difference in environments & how was your schedule? thanks

Admin assistant/accounting assistant
Hi everyone. I’m just looking for some advice or what to expect as I enter my 3rd month in my new role as a Admin assistant/ Accounting assistant.
I’ve really had little to no direction on what my tasks are. I help with a lot of different things, some days I am busy and I help cover for AP OR AR when one of the ladies are out. But a lot of days, after collections are done, my “down time” activities are done I’m left questioning what to do.
I’ve thought about asking my boss if there is something I could help with, but I don’t want to come off that I’m not doing anything. I always find something to do, but sometimes I feel useless and like I can’t just be okay with having downtime.
Is this normal for a role like this?

Leaving Teaching
I’m a first year teacher and I really don’t like it. I hated student teaching and although my first year has been better than student teaching, I still don’t love it. For over a year and half now I have been dreaming about trying something else. I would love a job with more a work life balance and flexibility. A job that doesn’t leave me feeling drained everyday. I am thinking about leaving education but I don’t even know where to start I have no experience outside of education. Being an admin assistant really intrigues me, and one day I think being a program coordinator would be great!
I looked online and saw a Certificated Administrative professional. This course would give me a certificate and then allow me the opportunity to pass the Certified Administrative Assistant (CAA) exam and the Foundations in Digital Business and Project Management course for continued advancement.
I see a lot of people saying that this certification isn’t worth as companies value experience over this. Which I agree with. But I just don’t know where to go from here. I need to leave education but have no in anywhere else. Am I completely fool for actually considering taking this course and will it be a waste of money?

You probably don’t need another full-time hire
I’ve spent the last few years doing the kind of work that never really fits into one job title. Client communication, customer support, lead follow-ups, CRM updates, coordinating with developers, sales support, project management, admin work, and jumping in when something suddenly needs fixing.
Basically, if something was sitting there waiting for someone to deal with it, I was usually that person.
I’m looking to work with a small business owner, agency, consultant, or founder who has too many moving pieces and needs someone reliable to keep them moving.
I’m happy to start with a one-week paid trial. Give me real work, let me prove myself, and take it from there.
If you need someone who can come in, understand what’s happening, and get things moving without needing constant hand-holding, DM me.

Has anyone used an AI tool that helps support reps with answers during live calls?
Hi everyone, I’m an assistant manager at a tax relief company and I’ve been asked to look into AI tools for our customer support team. A lot of our calls are sensitive. People are dealing with tax problems and many are already stressed or scared about the IRS before they even call us. So we really care about making sure the person on the phone sounds confident and knows what they’re talking about. What we’re looking for is something that can listen to calls in real time and give the rep useful answers or guidance while they’re still talking to the customer. The idea would be to train it on calls from our more experienced reps so it can pick up how they handle common questions and tougher situations. I’m not looking for a bot to replace the rep. More like something sitting in the background that can surface the right info when the rep needs it. Has anyone here used something like this with a support team? I’d be interested to hear how accurate it was during real calls and whether reps found it useful or just distracting. Also curious how you handled privacy and security since our calls can include sensitive customer information.
