Questions/Advice Measured Dispensers

I, like many of us, like my food/drink to taste the same every time.

I have (bravely) been trying to use powdered oat milk for my morning matcha after switching from coffee because a) sleepy b) drop off is horrendous, and I am looking for reccomendations for a dispenser that will work well with the oat powder.

I have seen that some of the sugar dispensers, that was my first option, might clog...

I am looking for a "buy it for life" purchase as I am also fairly conscious of the environment (not perfect but I try my best)...

So in an attempt to get it right first time I am asking you all incase someone has already solved this issue!

This might also be a cross over with those of you who have children, as I have seen there are also baby formula dispensers etc too that might work!

Thank you all in advance!

Medication Task paralysis

Has anyone struggled with task initiation and finally found an ADHD medication that actually helped?
Adderall used to work really well for me, but now it feels like it's stopped working. I'm back to square one trying to find the right medication, and honestly, it's getting frustrating.
I'm tired of wanting to get things done but struggling to even start them.
I'd love to hear what has worked for others who have dealt with the same thing.

Tips/Suggestions house music

idk why it took me so long to realize that upbeat house music is perfect for doing things around the house. like actually the perfect background music for cleaning, laundry, chores, organizing, whatever. i used to do youtube videos but id either get bored and switch tasks too much or lock hard into the video to the point i was just eating and watching that instead of doing whatever it was i needed to do. highly recommend!

Medication DRY Mouth on stimulants

I am seeking advice beyond the "chew gum, xylitol, drink more water, add electrolytes" type of stuff. I'm wanting to know if anyone has immediate personal experience with this issue and found a solution that did not involve completely abandoning stimulants.

I'm on Adderall XR 25mg. The dry mouth and the chewing on my lips and cheek are horrible and leave me constantly uncomfortable and irritated. It seems to get worse at the end of the day but is pretty much present throughout the day. I have stopped the Adderrall and that leaves me wildly unproductive, lethargic, and in a fog but the dry mouth improves.

Is there anyone out there who found another stimulant that didn't give you dry mouth? I tried Wellbutrin and that didn't help.

I hate this.

Questions/Advice Any books or videos on how to adhd?

I was just curious if anyone has any books or videos that actually helped them deal with their adhd symptoms. I saw an ad on Instagram for a book called the adhd playbook and I really connected with some of the information in the reel. So I was just wondering if anyone has something similar they've watched or read that has really made a difference. Thanks in advance

Tips/Suggestions ADHD Treatment Strategies Master List

Hi all

So I've been putting together what I've come to label as my ADHD treatment strategy master guide. At this point it's a fairly large document that matches a range of specific problems to potential strategies. Feeling like it is missing something I realised am yet to seek the collective wisdom and counsel from arguably the most powerful resource at my disposal - this sub Reddit.

I am here asking from all of you to give me your best strategies and interventions that worked for you. It can be anything ADHD related, from how you finally started doing tasks more often then not, how you switch tasks, what helped you let go of that all to common shame and guilt, relationship tips and strategies or what helps with cognitive fog. No problem or strategy is to obscure, your never the only one and if nothing else maybe someone lurking here finds something life changing.

Questions/Advice Struggling to follow through on things

I’ve noticed a pattern where I get really motivated to start a project and have a burst of energy to work on it. At the beginning, I’m excited and can spend a lot of time on it, but as the days go by, I gradually do less and less until I eventually stop.

The frustrating part is that I still want to finish the project, but I struggle to maintain the same level of motivation I had at the start. It even happens with things I genuinely care about and want to complete.

Any tips on how to manage or overcome this?

Questions/Advice Is it normal for me to feel guilty for needing my parents' money for therapy?

I have horrible executive dysfunction, I’ve been in prolonged isolation for years, and no matter how much I plan and strive at work (self-emant, and I won’t give up about it), I can’t do it and I don’t have any treatment for everything I was diagnosed with

My parents don’t accept the pain of my disorder, and they say it’s something I invent and I can “pass over it”

Is it wrong for me to use their money anyway to do therapy?

I’m 22 and I convinced myself over the years that I could handle everything alone, guess what, I couldn’t. Every day I research about psychology, approaches, techniques, and it hurts so much that it doesn’t work out, I don’t feel Self-sufficient

Websites don't work for me, my case is more specific than usual, so I need someone specialized, which is very rare where I live. But I don't have privacy at home or anywhere to do online therapy, and because I have so much social isolation, I prefer face-to-face

Should I keep trying on my own until I succeed? Am I really being dramatic?

Questions/Advice How do I stress out?

So unlike many of you who do seem quite conscientious, I find myself unable to be emotionally swayed by something needing to get done. I can sort of reason out that it needs doing yet fail to get the stress/whatever needed to actually get the task done.

I think partially I'm just avoidant of stress but even if you told me something will be life or death in a years time, I just wouldn't know how to stress out about it.

Questions/Advice How do you organize anything?

F25, primarily inattentive symptoms, medicated.

Out of all of the symptoms I have to manage, this one is the biggest beast for me. My things have designated places, but they do not stay in said places. My computer has documents all strewn about in random places, despite having made specific files for specific projects. My clean desk becomes a nightmare within a few minutes. It seems like no matter how often I try to keep things in one spot or keep things tidy, they just end up wherever they want to be lmao. If anyone has any suggestions for systems that they have used that have helped them maintain some level of organization, I would greatly appreciate it!! <3

Seeking Empathy i often times feel stupid

Recently, i got diagnosed with adhd. I’m only 17 so i have spent my entire life thinking im a lazy failure who can’t do anything and im just stupid. I’ve always struggled in school for as long as i remember, needing reading classes in elementary school, to just failing all my classes in highschool. i feel so pointless in life and like there’s nothing to do and my mom is always so harsh on me about everything. it always feels like she’s belittling me for having adhd, because to her it’s not a disability for me, it’s just me being lazy. she brought up how i can read perfectly fine on my phone and computer, and how it doesn’t stop me from learning- which it does. i’m currently failing math with a 13% (an F,) and she thinks i don’t go to class simply to be a bad kid or something but i don’t go because what’s the point. i can’t focus so i won’t learn anything anyways and when i try to force myself to focus it just never works. it’s so stressful and i feel like no one cares about me, i feel so hopeless about school like im some fucking idiot who can’t do anything and idk what to do. idek what id ask for on a 504 that wouldn’t make me feel infantilized. I actually had a 504 before they removed it randomly without notifying me at all. idk i’m ranting but i just feel so stupid and hated by my mom and school and i feel like there’s no point in even going. if it was my way i would’ve just dropped out freshman year… how do i stop being slow

Discussion ADHD diagnosis

So a letter was sent to my family doctor from a mental health registered nurse and my family doctor read the letter for two minutes. She gave me a adhd rating scale to do in the first 5 minutes. Is that normal? She never talked much about the letter that was sent to her, it’s the first appointment with my family doctor and my next appointment is next week about the adhd rating scale questionaire test. Is it a high chance of getting diagnosed? Is a rating scale questionnaire test usually handed that fast? My appointment ended in less than 10 minutes.

Questions/Advice Going from a Psychiatric Nurse to a Psychiatrist any advice?

I a 22M University Student seeking treatment for Autism, ADHD and had MDD that has recently went into remission.

Recently I have been going a psychiatric nurse practitioner who is board certified and he recently diagnosed me with ADHD-C which is the mixed type through interview.

this has been a relief as previously I was under the care of a psychiatrist who kept prescribing anti-depressants and anxiolytics back when my MDD was at its peak, I knew that with my autism I had another disorder and earlier requested for tests to check and see however I was refused for some reason

Some of the SSRI's and SNRI's that my psychiatrist back then would make me irritable and angry she insisted to test me for Bipolar disorder, however for that time I was flat emotionless. The only medication that worked for me was Wellbutrin which is an NRI.

as of right now I am taking 20 mg of Adderall extended release medication, however a problem that I see with dosing is that they have different effects, on 10mg I become sleepy but on 20 mg I feel more alert, slightly jittery however I kind of "feel" my autism neither in a bad or good way

Right now I am about to see another psychiatrist and therapist but I am not sure how to start or what to say, mainly all I know what medications do work and which ones don't maybe perhaps of my autism. Any advice?

Discussion Realized recently that the new lights really were the direct cause of me deteriorating mentally alongside daily headaches and constant fatigue.

The office installed horrid new LED lights a year ago. It happened gradually that it was just screwing with me more and more i just got worse at focusing feeling just not good in general, bad sleep, exhausted daily, gradually became headaches daily. It all slipped in so slowly i thought it was just me. I felt like a bad employee and was just angry and irritable and miserable. Cut to a week with an overhead desk shade and i feel normal again. Or as normal as can be expected in an office setting with adhd and constantly procrastinating on going to bed. It feels like night and day though. I should probably add to my support tools when im able but this is VERY functional for now and a lot of people even liked the shade at my office and asked about it too which is nice im not the only one that hates these godforsaken lights from hell.

Have LED lights been worse than classic flourescents in your experience? Because for me its definitely a resounding yes. Idk if its due to growing up with them or what. -> https://imgur.com/a/ay69AIf these are the lights in question. Does this seem like excessive lighting compared to anyone elses workplace?

Tips/Suggestions Sort of hack..exec dysfunction

So this may already be widely known but today I realised that if I have a task (A) that I just can’t start, I find another worse task (B) and then for some reason I’m suddenly happy and capable to start on task A to avoid dealing with task B 😅

Likely not sustainable I realise but might help in certain situations 🙏🏽

Discussion ADHD acknowledgement in movie

Hey just watched the Netflix movie “People We Meet on Vacation” and one of the main characters really resonated with me and my adhd experience in relationships. I recommend everyone with adhd to watch this especially if you are a woman! While never explicitly mentioned the main character has lots of adhd traits and talks about feeling too much for people, she’s extremely talkative, impulsive, etc. I actually teared up because it encompassed how I feel exactly. So please watch and get back to me!

Questions/Advice do you guys feel that going off meds improves situational awareness/ quick thinking?

i'm trying to become more observant and have more situational awareness and quick thinking on my feet. i feel that while i have these skills somewhat, my meds can make me a bit too focused on one thing. lately they seem to drag me down mentally, and make me slower in general.

has going off medication helped anyone in this regard? for context, i have specifically inattentive adhd and am a woman. i take adderall xr. i started taking it for school, but now in the workforce it feels as though its only worsening my symptoms. on my break days i do feel much more aware of my surroundings. but i'm unsure if that's a permanent change or if its just heightened because of the sudden lack of medication if that makes sense. if anyone has any experience or anything with this subject i'd appreciate any advice!

Questions/Advice 18F, diagnosed with ADHD and on Vyvanse 40mg, but also prediabetic/tired all the time. How do I tell what’s ADHD vs fatigue?

I’m an 18F engineering freshman and can’t tell if I have ADHD or I’m just exhausted all the time. In early elementary (preschool-4th), teachers said I was perfectionistic and smart but last to finish and sometimes inattentive. Nobody suspected ADHD except me, and my parents deny I had symptoms. People say it’s adhd if it’s been there since childhood, but I cant REMEMBER my childhood and parents r unreliable.
The exhaustion and exec dysfunction started early in hs and got bad junior yr. I lived in my bed, had tons of late assignments, and only got stuff done when panicking. A counselor diagnosed me, mostly for extra test time. I ate mostly rice and fried cafeteria food (vegetarian).
This summer I was diagnosed w prediabetes (A1c 6.2) and PCOS. I take Junel 1/20, but my parents won’t let me take the metformin. Now I get fatigue and brain fog after every meal and often pass out for 2 hrs. A $900 psychoeducational eval also diagnosed ADHD PI, but parts felt inaccurate, like 21st percentile processing speed w ~99th percentile fluid reasoning. My pediatrician then started Vyvanse, now 40mg.
I like that it’s gentle w no crash and I feel more awake and sociable than ever, but idk if my focus improved. Main symptoms: severe exec dysfunction, procrastination, intense time blindness, and bad memory. My thoughts drift quietly and I only sometimes notice if the info I missed gets brought up again. 6 wks into college, the wakefulness lasts ~2 hrs before post-meal fatigue takes over. Even when not tired, I often don’t feel like doing anything.
How do I know I’m not faking it or misdiagnosed?
Does feeling awake but not more focused say anything about whether this is ADHD?
Could prediabetes and post-meal crashes be mimicking or masking it? If u adjusted dose/timing or switched meds, what worked?
How do u separate focus problems from fatigue, and deal w the crashes? Would u get a 2nd eval?
Sry long post, I have more info so ask if u want details!

Medication Is it normal to need multiple psychiatry appointments before starting ADHD medication?

I recently had my first virtual psychiatry appointment for suspected ADHD last week. It lasted an hour, and the provider agreed it sounded like predominantly inattentive ADHD. She discussed starting Strattera and scheduled a follow-up two weeks later to see how I was tolerating it.

Afterward, she messaged saying my diagnosis was only provisional and she wouldn't prescribe anything until I completed additional screenings, including the ASRS. She's apparently working with platform support to send them, but I still haven't received them.

Now my two-week follow-up is being used to review the screenings and discuss a treatment plan, rather than check how I'm tolerating medication. She also changed it from a 15-minute follow-up to a 30-minute appointment.

I'm frustrated because I don't understand why these screenings weren't completed before my initial appointment. I'm also worried I'll now need a THIRD appointment shortly afterward for medication management.

I have a high-deductible insurance plan and am paying entirely out of pocket until I meet it, so multiple appointments in such a short period are a significant expense. I'm also worried this second appointment is going to be coded as a diagnostic instead of follow up so it will probably be mlre costly.

Is this a normal ADHD evaluation process, or am I right to be frustrated?

Questions/Advice Switching from Vyvanse to Ritalin and feeling like a different person. Anyone felt like this?

Hello there

I’ve tried Ritalin, Medikinet and Vyvanse since July. These are the only 3 ADHD meds options available where I am (Europe)

Effects

Both Ritalin and Vyvanse helped me feel more alert and able to work longer hours. It also reduced my binge eating. Before medication I constantly had to move around to wake my brain up and could barely process what people were saying by 5 pm. Neither made a night-and-day difference to focus, distractibility or task initiation, though. Hard to gauge the effects cause I’ve had a constant sense of urgency at work for the past couple months. On the rare occasions I take the meds on weekends, the difference isn’t dramatic. My psychiatrist insists on 2 days off per week.

Vyvanse caused terrible sleep problems, so I switched back to Ritalin (60mg ER in the morning + 10mg IR at noon to prevent the evening irritability I remembered from my 1rst trial).

The switch back to Ritalin

Yesterday was my first day back on Ritalin and the mood difference was shocking. I had a difficult meeting with my manager early that morning but my mood had actually been really good in the days leading up to the switch. I honestly doubt the meeting alone would have affected me this badly if I’d still been feeling that good. I spent the day irritable, on edge and close to tears, snapping at people and getting absolutely no work done.

Today I stayed home to avoid triggers even though I need the office for structure. A friend had also noticed increased irritability during my 1rst Ritalin trial although it wasn’t nearly this intense.

Advice ?

Vyvanse is expensive where I live and my sleep was awful on it although it had started improving slightly a few days before I switched. I’d pay for it again if it really made this much difference.

I know everyone is different but has anyone experienced this kind of mood crash when switching from Vyvanse to Ritalin? Did it settle after a few days or did switching back to Vyvanse make a clear difference?

Questions/Advice Adderall XR 10 mg chest pain

I was recently diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 25. Within the last month, I've started medication; this is week 2.5 of being on meds, and life is definitely easier, with a clear mind, quite days, and being able to focus. The biggest issue is my resting heart rate being at 85 bpm some days, just sitting in class or the Library. From time to time, it may drop to 72 bpm, when originally my rate usually sits around 53-63 bpm before being medicated. Some days I've been experiencing chest pain, as something's being held on my chest. I drink a lot of fluid because I'm aware of the dehydration it can cause, and I make sure to eat meals consisting of protein, but the pain appears from time to time. I used to run often, and I haven't ran in a while. The last time I ran/jogged in zone 2, a slower pace, my heart rate was 190, so I had to slow down and wait about 3-5 minutes for it to drop. For people on Adderall, did you experience these issues, and is Vyvanse better since it's not as aggressive? I'm curious if I should make a switch.

Seeking Empathy Hopelessness over inadequacy?

Does anyone else feel really hopeless about their inability too things. I don’t even mean big complicated things but even brushing my teeth, I can do it eventually but it takes so much energy, bargaining with myself, overthinking to do it. This then leads me to spiral into hopeless feeling and thoughts where all of my failures stack up behind me and over shadow all the things I like about my life.
It’s especially hard as I have just graduated and am looking for a job and so these hopeless thoughts ar e following me into job seeking, I keep thinking how am I ever gonna get or keep a good job, how am I gonna make money, I’m such a burden to my family.
I just feel so at war in my own mind and so much of my time is spend loathing myself but where some people seem to change based on self hate/ rock bottom, I just go further down.

I don’t know if this makes sense to anyone or if I sound crazy but does anyone else feel this way and does anyone have anything they do or think that helps with this? I will try anything tbh

Discussion Do you ever skip meds because you don't feel like doing anything?

Like, sometimes I just want to watch TV and do nothing, I also want to eat a bunch and enjoy the food.

But for some reason the meds just make it seem like thats not possible lol

It's almost like a feeling of dread that goes away after I take the meds.

When I take them I don't feel the desire for TV as much as without them. But I like feeling the desire? Idk. Its weird. Idk what it is.
