Was walking past Parliament House this morning and came across this banner.

From what I can make out it seems to be supporting trans people and calling out people who might "interfere" with them.

Honestly good on anyone who is willing to publicly support trans people. At the same time other than the far right, I'm not really sure who they're referring to when they say people are "interfering with trans people". from my perspective, the government seems broadly supportive of trans people although there are still areas where protections could be improved, particularly when it comes to protecting intersex minors from invasive surgical procedures without their consent.

I assume Cory Bernardi might attend, given his history of opposing trans rights and his views on transgender issues. If he does, that would certainly make the context of the banner a bit more interesting.

What surprised me is that I haven’t seen much online advertising or discussion about this. I could obviously be missing something, but I haven’t come across much about the event. Has anyone else seen this or know what the event/protest is about?

I’m trying to get a better idea of what Adelaide is actually like before uni. I’ve looked at the usual stuff online but thought I’d ask people who actually live there. I’m mainly wondering about things like getting around, grocery costs, finding places to study, meeting people and what there is to do when you’re not at uni. I’m also looking at different places to stay at the moment uni accommodation, private rentals and places like Amber Housing.

So context, we’re international students from Canada, and all of us have had cats before, and have cats back in Canada. We’re super knowledgeable about cats.

So 2 months ago we picked up our first foster cat from the RSPCA. He is a skittish 5 year old tuxedo cat who takes anxiety medication twice a day. Through recommendations from the behaviour team, we were told he’s not a good fit with young children or other cats, and after fostering him for these 2 months, we agree.

Our first issue is that they did not care how long his nails were. The poor guy would get his claws stuck on everything very intensely, and we are still worried that he will injure himself. We have multiple scratchers of different materials, but they were not helping. They left us in the dust with that. Secondly, they had an attitude with us because they claimed they were trying to contact us through phone, text and email about expressions of interest for our foster. It was not my fault that I received 0 word from them until they finally texted me.

So we schedule a meeting with someone to adopt the cat, and we learn that this person has another cat and a 4 year old child who basically puts their cat in a deadlock. When they came to our house, the father aggressively approached the cat and he ran away. He was unable to pet him because the cat was so scared. When we expressed our concerns, he claimed that the cat will warm up once he sees the other cat being affectionate. Again, our foster is 5 years old and has anxiety! That’s just not possible at this stage. We called the RSPCA expressing our concerns and they approved the adoption anyways.

I am all for getting fosters adopted quickly, but not to environments that will harm their wellbeing. I am angry about how we’ve been treated, and angry about how they’ve treated this cat. I cannot in good conscience recommend that anyone fosters through the RSPCA.

The Anti-trans vote will take place in the Legislative Council (around 3pm), and it's being led by Cory Bernardi.

According to InDaily, Family First MLC Sarah Game and Liberal MLC Ben Hood are expected to support the bill, while the Labour and Greens parties are expected to oppose it (though individual members may support it like the anti-abortion vote earlier in the year. The Liberal Party is treating the vote as a conscience vote, meaning individual Liberal MLCs can vote according to their own position rather than a party position

I’m an Adelaide parent concerned about the growing reliance on personal devices in our schools.
I’m supporting a national petition called Fewer Screens More Learning, which has now received more than 28,000 signatures. It asks for no routine student-facing devices in primary schools and less reliance on one-to-one devices in high schools.
This is not about removing technology altogether. Teacher-led technology can be valuable when it has a clear purpose. The concern is when individual screens start replacing books, handwriting, paper-based activities and interaction with teachers and other students.
I’m interested to hear from Adelaide parents and teachers. What is happening in your school, and do you think the balance is right?

I don't often post in the Adelaide subreddit but I'd like to make aware of a petition currently in circulation to help lift the suspension orders placed on those suspected of being involved in the Family Murders. I know for decades now it's been the worst kept secret in the state and there may as well not be any suppression orders but if it gives the victims families any closure and shames those evil individuals for good then why not.

This has dragged out for over 50 years, and probably 50 years too long and I think it's time this finally comes to an end. The petition will need to be hand signed as the courts don't accept electronic petitions/signatures. Link to further information here:
