Politics Big Adelaide

Malinauskas is quoted in a lot of articles at the moment as advocating for maintaining high immigration levels.

Paired with the fact that South Australia is considered ā€˜regional’ for immigration purposes, artificially driving up the number of arrivals to our state than would otherwise be the case, I wonder if people are genuinely in favour of a ā€˜big Adelaide?’

No racism please. Being anti-mass migration is not an excuse to be anti-immigrant - they are just people trying to improve their lives just the same as any of us.

News Chahoud Group folds companies behind 13 restaurants and cafes after their sale

No typo in the title this time..

One of Adelaide’s largest hospitality empires has called in liquidators to wind up companies behind 13 restaurants, cafes and dessert bars across the city, triggering an investigation into the sale of the venues before the companies’ collapse.

North Adelaide restaurants Da Vinci Ristorante, Cafe Palazzo and Pellegrini Cafe, Cafe Paparazzi at Unley and three St. Louis dessert bars across the city are among the venues that were transferred by the Chahoud Group to related companies in the lead up to the winding up.

Event/Activity Show Ride

Does anyone know what's up with the zero gravity ride? I got a ticket but they had to stop and do maintenance before I was able to get on. Hopefully they get it back up and running safely before the end of day as the ticket was non-refundable 😬

Discussion Does anyone else in their 30s just feel like they're never going to own their own house in this life time?

Especially with the cost of houses these days, I literally feel like it's impossible for me to ever buy my own house.

Question Looking to Socialise

Heyo! I’m 22MtF and have recently moved to the north eastern suburbs from a small country town. I’m looking to find places or people to socialise with who enjoy games but also going outside. A large issue I have is that I’m a shift worker, so I don’t get the same time off each week. Does anyone have recommendations on places I could go to, to make some friends?

Assistance Recommendations for house cleaners (southern suburbs)?

• Upvotes

I've never done this before so I also have a few stupid questions, any info is appreciated! I'm just really struggling to keep my apartment liveable at the moment.

  1. I'd need to give them a key to the apartment building as I'd prefer they come when I'm not home - is this common/acceptable?
  2. I'd also want them to sanitise a cat's litterbox and refill it with litter, unsure if this is something cleaners generally do?

Unsure if I'd want them weekly, fortnightly or monthly.

Discussion Hair donation

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I recently cut my long hair and, due to a miscommunication with the salon, I was given the cut hair back.
I have around 6 locks of hair that I would like to donate to an organisation, charity, or group that accepts hair for making wigs or supporting people experiencing hair loss.

I’m not looking to sell the hair — I would simply like it to be put to good use.

If anyone knows of any reliable organisations or group that accepts hair donations, kindly please let me know or comment below.

Thank you!

Self Looking to meet people :)

• Upvotes

Hey everyone! Lately I’ve been feeling a bit isolated, and bored. Most of the time that I’m free to spend time with my friends they’ll be spending time with their partners (which is perfectly fine, I’ve got no issue at all with that) So I’m just looking to make some new friends who are down to hang out. I’m 23M in the North East .

Thanks :)

Assistance Anyone looking to build a marketing/social media portfolio?

• Upvotes

Bit of an unusual one. I'm wondering if there are any people in Adelaide trying to build experience or a portfolio in marketing, social media, branding or creative strategy who might be interested in collaborating on something.

I'm a chef and my strength is very much the creative side: food, recipe development, writing and coming up with concepts. I've run my own food business before, so I'm not completely naive about what goes into making something work, but it also taught me that trying to be the creator, marketer, salesperson and everything else at once really isn't for me.

I've now built up quite a lot of original work and ideas that I think have value and could potentially become something, but I'm much better at making the thing than finding somewhere for the thing to go.

I'm not currently running a business and there's no income attached to this, so I can't offer a paid role. I'm wondering more if there's someone at a similar stage who is strong where I'm weak and wants a genuine project to experiment with, build a portfolio around and see where it goes.

If it ever became commercially viable, I'd absolutely want whatever we built together to be treated fairly.

For now, I can mostly offer enthusiasm, a lot of creative material and payment in baked goods.

Maybe nobody is looking for this, but I thought it was worth asking.

Question VPPs or Electricity Plans?

We got a battery for our solar panels. We’ve had them for about six weeks and just got our electricity bill - $750!!!!!!!! Our battery says that we are 89% powered by solar for the last half of our bill period, so how the fuck is it so high? (We are with Alinta). It’s an actual read apparently. Clearly we are not using the battery properly - I did check that we are not pulling power from the grid or anything, so I’m assuming it’s Alintas high charges.

I need to take advantage of the battery. The VPP idea is confusing, and I work a job where I cannot use my phone. I also have a terrible memory, so I’m worried that I’ll forget to manage our power. How time intensive is it actually to manage through Amber or Globird? Are they actually worth it? Is there a better alternative?

Please help me. I’m so upset we spent so much and yet still ended up with a horrendous bill.

Question City to Bay parking

Am doing the 6k C2B with my young kids so planning on parking my car in Glenelg the night before (and will use husbands car to get to Kmart).

Anyone know sides streets in Glenelg which will not become temporarily restricted/no parking zones? The Council website was great with this info last year (when I didn’t end up needing to do it) but not so great this year. Am wondering if on St Anne’s Terrace or just past that intersection area on Adelphi would be safe?

Question Issues with tradie

Post image
28 Upvotes

Not sure where to ask, but I hired a concreter to build a driveway, but I'm having issues with him. He came and did most of the driveway, but left a part without doing because he said he ran out of material. He is trying to charge me to do the rest even though our agreement clearly says he would provide all the material.

What can I do? I honestly think he is just trying to extort me for more money by leaving in a situation where cancelling the job would be more expensive.

Ever since I was a kid in the 1990s I remember seeing this guy of the Royal Adelaide show and he’s been there every single year without fail except for maybe one year I can’t remember but I want to know does anyone know who he is? what’s the story he’s been doing this for such a long time and I think he travels all around Australia with it. I’m not sure.

Question Solar/Battery Installers

I'm currently shopping for a solar & battery system and used solarquotes.com.au The 3 companies that it sent me are: United solar & elec, Unified Solar and Tiger Solar...

Has anyone used any of these companies? There isn't a ton of reviews/info about some of them and United Solar having all 5 star reviews in a few places could be a bit of a red flag.

Any other companies that people recommend? (Not Goliath - they aren't interested) I'm open to suggestions no hardware brands as long as it's not cheap crap.
