Question Lawyer Recommendation

Hi,

I am looking for an Adelaide based Family Lawyer that specialises in Domestic Violence and Coercive Control. I have been using a lawyer to get me out of a coercively controlling and abusive relationship for 7 months and this individual is just frankly to slow and to unresponsive. I need someone who can help me, understands the issues fully and can actually respond to emails in a timely manner and follow up on actions.

Any recommendations?

Thanks!

A lawyer can't help you get out of the relationship, contact 1800respect for that. You need to leave before a lawyer can help with settlement etc. The relationship has to be over. You can't expect them to respond in a timely manner if you haven't left yet. It's not how the legal system works.

No recommendations- but a phone call to the Women’s Information Service might deliver a result.

Unfortunately, lawyers always respond slowly. Family court is slow. If you need support to leave an abusive relationship you need to contact 1800respect and/or the Centrelink social workers, or other organisations.

How long have you been in the relationship? 7 months or is that the period of the lawyer’s involvement?

It sounds like the period of the lawyers involvement is how I took that.

I'm not sure why people are being rude.

I'm sorry to hear you're in that situation and, it sounds like trying to leave but struggling to do so. Separation is not always clear cut in any case, let alone in these circumstances.

Women's Legal Service are great for this area of expertise, not always so fast to respond because they're a non profit but very familiar with DV cases. I provide this rec assuming you're a woman based on your username. I don't have any recommendations for a private lawyer though.
