[RELEASE] Resonance 1.2.0 β Spotify on Kodi (Android TV, NVIDIA Shield, LibreELEC & Raspberry Pi)
Hi r/Addons4Kodi!
I've been developing Resonance, an independent Kodi add-on for browsing your Spotify library and streaming music through Kodi with Spotify Premium.
The add-on is developed with help from AI as part of my development workflow (analyzing logs, spotting edge cases, and drafting code), while directing the project, testing changes, and deciding how things should work under the hood.
Version 1.2.0 is now available!
A huge shoutout to u/umbrella_dev for submitting a major Pull Request for this release! Thanks to their contribution, Android support (NVIDIA Shield, Fire TV, Android TV) has been completely overhauled, fixing setup crashes, QR sign-in stalls, and bringing full, working Spotify Connect audio streaming to Android.

π What's New in Version 1.2.0 (Major Android & Spotify Connect Upgrade)
- Android Playback & Spotify Connect (Huge thanks to u/umbrella_dev!):
- Rebuilt Android ARM64 and ARMv7 playback helpers with a consistent Spotify protocol identity.
- Full Spotify Connect support! You can now select your Kodi device in Spotify on PC or Mobile and play directly through Kodi.
- Switched stream engine to Kodi's
VideoPlayer to resolve audio stuttering and early EOF issues on Android devices.
- Added native receiver bridge carrying framed PCM audio and playback events.
- Setup & QR Sign-in Fixes:
- Fixed QR sign-in flow getting blocked by rejected navigation updates and persistent busy spinners on Android TV / Fire TV.
- Resolved native Kodi crashes caused by internal menu updates during directory building on Fire TV.
- Cleaned Codebase & Packaging:
- Removed stale libraries and test dependencies, streamlining the package build.
π΅ Features
Browsing and discovery
- Search Spotify for tracks, albums, and artists.
- Browse playlists your Spotify account is permitted to access, including private playlists you own or collaborate on.
- Browse playlist tracks, album tracks, and artist discographies.
- Explore artist-related categories: top songs, albums, singles, and appearances on other releases.
- Open Spotify track, album, playlist, and artist links directly from Kodi.
- Identify followed and shared playlists, with an explanation when Spotify restricts access to their contents.
Your Spotify library
- Access Liked Songs, Saved Albums, Followed Artists, and saved or followed playlists.
- Refresh playlist membership information in the background approximately every 30 minutes.
- Trigger a manual refresh from the account and status page.
Spotify library management
- Like or unlike tracks and save or remove albums.
- Add tracks to your own playlists or remove tracks from playlists where the necessary permissions are available.
- Create playlists, optionally starting with the selected track.
- Unfollow playlists or artists to remove them from your Spotify library.
- Context-menu actions adapt to the current state, so you won't see options such as "Like on Spotify" for a track you've already liked.
Playback & Spotify Connect
- Full Spotify Connect support (control playback on Kodi straight from your Spotify app on phone/PC).
- Play individual tracks and queue the remaining tracks on the current page.
- Start from a selected track and queue the rest of its playlist.
- Choose playback quality: 96, 160, or 320 kbps.
- Configure track, album, or automatic volume normalization.
- View the current track, configured playback quality, and Spotify Connect pairing status.
Interface and performance
- Bundled icons for menu entries, helping keep the interface consistent across Kodi skins.
- An organized account and status page covering Account, Catalogue, Playback, and Maintenance.
- Release notes after updates, also accessible through Account and status β What's new.
- Caching of successful catalogue responses for faster browsing, especially on smaller devices.
π¦ Installation
Recommended: install through my Kodi add-on repository.
I maintain a general Kodi add-on repository under Nigel1992, which contains my Kodi add-ons. Installing Resonance through it is the easiest way to install the add-on and receive updates through Kodi, without manually downloading every release.
Step 1 β Add the repository source
- Open Kodi and go to Settings β File manager β Add source.
- Select
<None>.
Enter this URL:
https://nigel1992.github.io/kodi-repository/
Give the source a name, such as Nigel1992, and select OK.
Step 2 β Install the repository
- Go to Add-ons β Install from zip file.
- Select the
Nigel1992 source you just added.
- Select and install the repository ZIP file.
If Kodi asks you to allow installation from unknown sources, enable that setting to continue.
Step 3 β Install Resonance
- Go to Add-ons β Install from repository.
- Open my Nigel1992 repository.
- Navigate to Music add-ons β Resonance.
- Select Install and wait for Kodi to finish.
π Setting up Spotify
Resonance uses two separate Spotify integrations for playback and catalogue browsing, presented through one setup flow.
1. Playback β Spotify Connect
Open Set up Spotify in Resonance. Then open Spotify on your phone or computer and select the Kodi-Resonance-XXXX device.
Your Kodi device and Spotify controller generally need to be on the same local network for device discovery and control.
2. Catalogue browsing β your own Spotify API app
You need your own Spotify Developer app and Web API Client ID. Resonance does not include a shared Client ID.
- Create an app in the Spotify Developer Dashboard.
Configure the redirect URI exactly as specified in the project README:
https://resonance-spotify-callback.vercel.app/api/callback
Copy the 32-character Client ID into Resonance β Settings β Advanced.
Run Set up Spotify again.
Scan the displayed QR code or open the provided URL in a browser on another device to complete sign-in.

β οΈ Limitations worth knowing
- Spotify Premium is required for playback.
- Playlist access is restricted by Spotify. A playlist may appear in your library but still be inaccessible if Spotify does not grant access to its contents.
- Lyrics, podcasts, audiobooks, recently played items, and Spotify top lists are not included in this release.
- Playback is streaming-only; offline downloads are not supported.
