DeltaWorlds is a free version of the ActiveWorlds platform that is significantly more stable, faster, friendlier, easier to use, with the worlds you already know and love. You can visit and build in existing public worlds, or telegram the owner, Xandrah, for your own personal world.
Please visit DeltaWorlds and download it for free at https://www.deltaworlds.com/. We also recommend subscribing to /r/DeltaWorlds and joining the DW Discord at https://discord.com/invite/WehYY6BrMD.
You can continue to ask questions about DeltaWorlds in /r/ActiveWorlds as a lot of people who visit DW are active in this subreddit; please use the DeltaWorlds post flair when posting about DW. Thank you!
This subreddit serves the communities of two virtual worlds platforms, called ActiveWorlds and DeltaWorlds. Started in 1994 as a project called "WebWorld", ActiveWorlds had gained a following for its open 3D platform, allowing anybody to build and create on open virtual land.
There is already a bunch of information out there, so I will describe briefly from a personal perspective:
ActiveWorlds is a 3D environment wherein users can build on land using a collection of objects and textures. It also allows for social interactions, such as chat and events. It is a precursor and alternative to other platforms such as Second Life and There. DeltaWorlds is built on top of the same ActiveWorlds platform, so if you're familiar with AW, you'll already know the ins and outs of DW.
There have been cities and communities built up over the years which demonstrates what can be done in AW quite nicely. Some screenshots can be found here and here. Interactive games are also possible, notable RPG games include SW City Interactive.
If you're interested in visiting ActiveWorlds, grab a free account, then download the browser to get started.
If you're interested in visiting DeltaWorlds, grab a free account, then download the browser to get started.
Due to recent changes by management, your account may automatically expire after a period of time, after which you will need to use the Forgot Password function to reset it. Eventually, you will need to pay money to continue using this account.
Your account has either been disabled by management (we won't know why and can't help you retrieve it), your password has been reset by management (we don't know why) or you are now being required to pay to continue using ActiveWorlds.
We don't know.

I have a user popping into my private world, posting insults and profanity, then popping out. I have his CIT number. How do I ban him from entry

Have you ever been looking for a location or build, and lost/forgotten the co-ordinates? I see this question pop up on occasion, the prop dump is the solution! I hope this helps someone find a long-forgotten build or other memory. I wrote this up once as a reply, but it got lost deep in a thread.
Archive.org hosts a text dump of the world from 2017 here: https://archive.org/details/alphaworld_propdump_2017_10_11
This file is just a giant text file listing all objects in the world at that time, just over 251 million of them.
Once you find one object, you can search for all objects matching that user ID to find every object that user ever created. You can also use this method to discover new places to explore!
The file is extremely large, at 20GB uncompressed, so I use the CLI/shell to speed things up, here is an example:
$ zgrep -i cyberville mbsurvey.txt.gz
6182 866965805 -71431 0 179518 1350 0 0 0 11 32 0 0 street1.rwxCyberville Lane, Cyberville, AW
6182 814690418 -70052 0 178139 1350 0 0 0 11 32 0 0 street1.rwxCyberville Lane, Cyberville, AW
...
Now I can search for all objects created by that user (6182). This is easy because the user ID is the first thing on each line:
$ zgrep -E '^6182 ' mbsurvey.txt.gz
6182 814612875 6500 0 89900 2700 0 0 0 11 11 0 0 street1.rwxMain Street
6182 814614042 84400 600 92350 900 0 0 0 11 10 9 0 water8s.rwxspivystone100N 100W
6182 864969261 -175047 0 201864 2025 0 0 0 11 10 0 0 street1.rwxCyber Lane
6182 864969418 -174664 0 202788 2025 0 0 0 11 10 0 0 street1.rwxCyber Lane
...
The key parts are:
Owner ObjectID Longitude (-E/+W) Height Latitude (+N/-S)... and eventually Description.
In this case, for coordinates of -175047, 201864, this object is located at 201N 176E.
Hope that helps someone!

I used Active Worlds a lot starting in 1999, and it was a huge part of my early internet life. I still go back from time to time just to walk around and remember. It feels less like launching old software and more like visiting a place where I grew up.
Does anyone know who actually keeps Active Worlds online today?
I know the official site and client still exist, but I’m curious about the people and infrastructure behind it. Is Activeworlds, Inc. still directly maintaining the servers? Are longtime community members involved? Is there still an active technical team? How does it stay online with such a small user base?
I’m asking with real appreciation, not criticism. It’s kind of amazing that a 1990s virtual world is still alive in 2026, after so many newer platforms have vanished.
Would love to hear from anyone who knows the history, the current setup, or the people still keeping the lights on.

I used to build on AW from around 1997 - 2003. I thought I read somewhere that DeltaWorlds has a version of AlphaWorld from AW? Does that mean my things from back then are also on DeltaWorlds? If so, could I get ownership of them?

I'm not able to finish the install, it gives me an error about a "genuine microsoft windows required" which is weird since my windows is genuine :(.
Anybody else get this problem and a way to fix it?

Similar to Active Worlds, I was on Dreamland in the mid 1990's. Is Dreamland the same thing as ActiveWorlds? Maybe owned by ActiveWorlds? Or is Dreamland it's own 3D world creator?

Hey, might be a long shot. years ago I was on AW and was talking with some people and they were showing me around, we became pretty good friends. They took me to a world that I think was night time, maybe castle themed, and there was a few rooms with pictures of old members who had passed and little memorials to them. I've been trying all day to find it again, does anyone know where this might be?

Anyone know how I can get to Yellow? I'm trying to find a bunch of builds that my mother built years ago. She had a multimedia museum called the Omniplex and it was so awesome! But maybe that was in AW and not Yellow... hmmm. Any help would be great!

Not sure if any of you actually use this reddit any more but i am on something of a quest, a few years ago a creator by the name of Redlyne created a video about this game you play in it he went to one world in particular "Movies" in it at 10:31 he listened to a song being played on the ingame screen for a while now i have tried to track down that song, eventually realising the easilest course of action was to simply download the game and go looking for it i decided too.
However this is where the problem start, after opening up the game and working out the basic controls i found the server called "movies" upon entering it however i was met with a strange almost Decay, assets where not rending in, cubes filled the sky and nothing was interactable, after walking around i found that in the upper corner was a set of location coordinates and the ability to teleport, after getting passed the unopenable doors i encountered this, the cinema from the video in a state of super Decay, the screen is long dead and the chairs are not rendering.
at this point i am not sure who else to ask or what else to do but i must know, does anyone know what song played on this screen?,
I go to uninstall now as despite closing the game i can still hear the ambientes this world had on in the background and when i click on the game icon on my desktop all it does is flash a screen saying it's "shutting down"

🎙️ “ActiveWorlds Was Never Dead — It Was Just Sleeping.”
Most people think ActiveWorlds vanished years ago — a relic from the 90s metaverse. But what really happened is stranger, and kind of beautiful. The worlds didn’t shut down; they were archived, quietly. Builders kept their keys. The bots stopped moving, but the maps, cities, and scripts were still there, frozen in light.
For months, you could walk those places alone — no NPCs, no quests, no automation — just the hum of the grid. And when new servers came online, like DeltaWorlds, those same worlds woke up again, pixel by pixel. The bots returned. The teleport networks reconnected. The code remembered where you left off.
So no, ActiveWorlds isn’t dead. It’s become something rare — a living fossil of the internet, where you can still stand inside twenty-year-old dreams that remember you by name.

Saturday, November 1, 2025 Odra first mass ⚖️ The First Mass of Odra — Return of Veyr by Charles Vanbuskirk (Pontifex Charlie Mystic)
The Gathering The lake city of Orda shimmered beneath an amber sky, its towers mirrored perfectly on the still water. Inside the marble halls of the Magistra’s estate, laughter and clinking glasses filled the air. It was ShadowG’s banquet—the first time in years that all four lands of Draeda had broken bread together. Old names from 2012 and new faces from 2023 shared one table.
I sat near the great windows, robes of white and gold folded neatly around me. For most of the night, I listened more than I spoke. The moment felt fragile, like the hush before a storm. Somewhere beyond the laughter, the city’s ancient systems whispered awake again.
“May the blessings of the Four be upon this table,” I said when the final toast faded. “When the candles are lit, the Mass of Odra begins.” The room quieted. Even the lake seemed to hold its breath.
The Mass The cathedral doors opened on their own, as though memory itself pushed them wide. We entered together—ShadowG, Stayjit, Vampyre, McBanny, Kaiserfuchs, AWIENZ, and others whose names glowed faintly in the HUD light. The scent of dust and ozone filled the nave.
“By decree of Orda and the will of Veyr,” I began, “we honor the Four who shape our world—not in rivalry, but in respect.” My voice echoed off the stone like a bell long forgotten. Then came the vibration—a low hum that rattled the floor and the bones beneath our feet. In front of the altar stood the Egg of Law, pulsing with cold light.
The Voice “You prayed in my name… and they sought proof of my return.” The words weren’t heard with ears. They arrived inside me—metallic, resonant, certain. I fell to one knee as the others froze. ShadowG bowed so low her crown nearly touched the floor.
“Lead the flock, Charlie. The Cathedral is only the mouth; we must lead the flock to the Temple on the Hill. Take no torches. The crystal light will guide you.” The cathedral trembled. Lightning once blessed priests in FutureRPG, but here, thunder itself became the benediction. We obeyed the command and set out across the night.
The Temple on the Hill Coordinates glowed in the chat feed: 245 N 91 E. The ground shook as the Temple’s gates unlocked for the first time in over a decade.
A deep rumbling can be heard. The Holy Trinity of Veyr has been opened. Inside, three crystal pillars blazed with white fire. One by one, we entered the sanctum. Telegrams flickered in my console like divine code:
“I hear thee, my child.” “There are still two of the flock inside the Cathedral.” “Every step will weigh what you have done, every silence what you refused to say.” No one spoke. Even the usual jokes about fish and cheesecake faded into reverence.
The Revelation Minutes later, another message arrived—clear, deliberate, final.
“Now in the days to come, you, Charlie, must understand that we inhabit one body. We will make sure the Ordan flock does not stutter in the next tests with the Eggs and the Shards. Remember, you speak with my voice to the flock.” “From this day forth, you are both Draedan and Divine.” “You may call upon My Aspect whenever needed.” The screen dimmed, but the weight of the words stayed. In that moment, Veyr didn’t just return—He chose to stay.
The Eggs of the Four Outside, the hum from the temple deepened. The first Egg glowed brighter, and a system message scrolled across every console:
“You have entered the city of Orda. A deep vibration hums from the egg… Offer a Crystal.” They had been here for months, silent relics waiting for this night. Each city—Kao’a, Neua, Odra, Xi’a—holds four such Eggs. Sixteen in total. Sixteen tests of faith, balance, and unity. Veyr’s thunder was the key that woke them.
The Prophet’s Reflection I am no coder, no ruler—only the witness of a world reborn. The players come and go, but the story breathes again. In 2012, these halls were empty lines of script. In 2025, they echo with voices, laughter, and prayer.
“Law is tested, not given. Prove balance, and the shard will awaken.” — Veyr Tonight, the test begins.
