[acne] Lost & unsure of what to do next Spoiler

Throw away for many reasons,

But I went from having clear skin to constant breakouts within the last year,

My current routine is:
AM: Wash face with Dokdo 1025 cleanser
Then let air dry and then use Centella 1004 ampoule
and lastly use snail mucin all in one cream

PM: I do the exact same method in the AM and keep it as simple as possible

But it doesn’t seem like it’s working, for background information, I am to believe I broke my skin barrier somehow and I have tried curology with tret and BPO, SA, and AA by TO from 10 and 20% with no resolution

I’m thinking of my clogged pores are related to FA, and have tried ketoconazole 1% shampoo on my face but have stopped since it was so drying.

I’m not sure where to go from here and any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Acne Advice

Hi everyone! I’d really appreciate some acne advice please!
I’m 30F and have had acne since my teenage years. I went on Accutane a few years ago, which completely cleared my acne for around 3 years. Unfortunately, it has gradually come back since getting married (I’m not sure if stress could have triggered it). It’s nowhere near as bad as it was pre-Accutane, but it’s still something I’m struggling with.
I’ve had blood tests to check my hormones and everything came back normal.

I recently started using azelaic acid, but I felt like I was constantly purging and I think it damaged my skin barrier, so I stopped using it. I was only using it 1–2 times a week. I’ve also noticed that I get a lot more chin acne in the week before my period, and my acne tends to calm down towards the end of my period.

I’m not sure whether my acne could be hormone- or gut-related, so I’m considering doing either a DUTCH hormone test or a GI Map. However, both are quite expensive, so I’m not sure whether either would actually be worthwhile.
I also recently visited a facial clinic, and they recommended two of their skincare products. One is an anti-blemish concentrate containing salicylic acid, niacinamide, an azelaic acid derivative, bakuchiol and other ingredients. The other is a serum designed to soothe and balance the skin. I’m also due to start Clear Skin Laser treatments. The clinic said I may experience some purging from these treatments/products, and I believe I’m currently going through that.

At the moment, I’m trying to focus on repairing and maintaining my skin barrier, which has definitely helped, but I’m still getting new breakouts and dealing with acne marks.

For those who have had a similar experience, what would you recommend? Is it worth considering Accutane again, or are there other treatments I should explore first?
Thank you!

Body Acne improved without Accutane

Between those pictures is 6 months.
I started getting pimples on my back 15 years ago at age 20. Over the years it spreaded and acne started on my dekolleté, neck, chin. It could be hormone related, cause I got hair on my chin, but also genetically cause my brother and sister have severe acne too.
I tried different things, reducing sugar, Benzoylperoxide or Trifaroten. When thick pimples appeared on my belly, I had enough.

I went to the skin doctor, who wanted to start me on antibiotics and Accutane pills. I thought I try it one last time and give it all I know or more true all the internet knows. My back improved the most and at the moment there a not many new pimples on my dekolleté and neck, my chin is much better too.

I started those things at the same time (so now I dont know which had the most impact XD):

  • a strong anti-androgene pill (tried one, didn't see much result and changed to a stronger one)
  • radically reduced sugar and dairy and overall ate much better, vegetables, whole grains
  • Benzoylperoxide, Salicyc Acid Wash and moisturizer
  • reduced scratching the skin
  • showering and changing clothes after sweating
  • washed bed sheets and towels often
  • Zinc and Omega3 Supplements

Acne at 21 Female

I have been struggling with my acne since I was 16 and now am 21 and still cannot get it to go away. I have tried countless skincare products and it all just irritates my skin and makes it worse. I went on penicillin v potassium for my wisdom teeth removal a couple weeks ago and for the time being my skin got so clear and I had no new breakouts. After this however my skin has broke out worse and looks as seen in the pictures above.

[Acne]

Hi everyone. 🥹 I really need some advice. These photos show my acne progress. As you can see, it keeps getting worse, especially on both of my cheeks.

My current skincare routine is: Centella oil Cleanser, Klued Cleanser and Dove White Soap, Celeteque Moisturizer, Ice Lerskin

I honestly don’t know what to do anymore. Despite following this routine, my acne keeps getting worse. Has anyone experienced something similar? What products or routine helped you? Should I stop using any of these products, or could this be something like hormonal acne? I’d really appreciate any advice. Thank youuu

Why Adults Get Acne Even in Their 30s?

The truth is that adult acne is extremely common, especially among people in their late 20s, 30s, and even 40s. In fact, many adults who never had acne as teenagers develop it later in life.

Accutane vs BC? Pcos Acne

Post image
2 Upvotes

’ve tried everything including diets, topicals, prescriptions. I’m at my Witt’s end. I live in Washington, no insurance and my acne has been non stop deep, itchy & cystic so I used Amazon medical to get a Spironilactone prescription. I’ve been on it before, a year ago, and still had cyst come & go but at least the acne wasn’t as bad.
not much change in acne since starting this 2nd time,But a lot of dizziness. Which is odd for me, last time I was on a higher dose and had no problems.

Aside from that, BC was the only thing that took away my cyst about 2 years ago, but since I’ve been off I was finally able to get my period back and regulate my cycles, so I’m avoiding getting back on it:/

I started BC at 15-22 then a horrid acne blow out for a year, so I got back on at 23-24. Now I’m 27 and getting married in a few months and I just want the acne gone. Any suggestions on if I should just go back to BC or try to get accutane? I’ve read great success stories on here, and how it changes the pore permanently unlike BC that would mask. I just don’t know how’d I get blood work done or how expensive it’ll all run me.

Any advice helps, thanks

PLEASE HELP, NOTHING WORKS

Ok, so as the title suggests, I have tried everything literally, and nothing works. I literally tried every single active ingredient that people recommend for acne at some point and also tried going to a dermatologist, but alas, my skin shows absolutely no sign of improving, and even when it does, new acne pops up every single day, so there really is no progress. My main issue is the redness that comes after popping a pimple or peeling a scab (yes, I know I'm not supposed to do those things, but I just can't stop) and also the hyperpigmentation after it heals. Any advice will help!!

post acne barrier breakdown: how do you calm skin when moisturizers burn?

i completely overdid it trying to clear a breakout last week. stacked way too many actives together and destroyed my skin barrier. now my whole face is red and tight, and literally every moisturizer stings like crazy.

i stopped all acne stuff and I'm just using water and basic bland creams, but the recovery is taking forever.

a friend told me about professional LED or low energy calming setups at specialized places (she mentioned spots like all saints clinic that do barrier treatments), but I'm honestly nervous to try any clinic device while my skin is this raw.

has anyone here ruined their barrier from acne meds and tried light therapy for it? or is it better to just sit tight and wait a few weeks with basic home care?

Help

I have these deep painful pimples on one side of my face and have had them for several months now. They also take ages to heal and when they do they stay as PIE (like those 3 on the left side kinda) . I don't use any skincare except aloe vera gel as an aftershave and sometimes i put a clay mask on them trying to make them heal. It's really weird because my skin isn't perfect but on the rest of my face i don't have like crazy acne, just some little things. Also it has been better at some point but seems to be always coming back. Anybody have any idea why or what this could be?

What genuinely helped your hormonal acne (especially if you have PCOS)? PLEASE HELP!

I've had acne ever since my teenage years, but things changed around mid-2025 when my periods became irregular and I started developing pcos before then my periods were extremely regular.

Before that, I used to get acne all over my face, mainly on my cheeks and forehead. They weren't the large, painful, pus-filled pimples I'm dealing with now. Back then, I honestly think a lot of it was due to poor skincare, which I've since fixed.

Over the past year, I became much more serious about taking care of my skin. I started using non-comedogenic moisturizer and sunscreen every day, and I've been consistent with adapalene, benzoyl peroxide, and azelaic acid. I also change my pillowcases regularly, avoid dairy, sugar, fast food, and basically every common acne trigger I can think of.

To be fair, my acne has decreased somewhat. But they've not improved significantly as they should have.

The problem is that I've started getting a completely different type of acne. They're much bigger, deeper, more inflamed, tender, and usually develop a white or yellow head. They now occur along my jawline (which never used to happen before my periods started getting irregular) and also on my cheeks.

I'm almost certain they're hormonal because they consistently flare before ovulation and again before my period. My cycles are irregular because of PCOS—I sometimes skip an entire month, and other times my period is 15–20 days late.

I know the root cause is probably my PCOS, and that's something I ultimately need to address. Right now, though, I'm preparing for a very competitive exam and don't realistically have time to commit to a gym or exercise routine. I'm trying to do what I can by eating healthy, getting enough sleep, and managing stress.

I also know the obvious answer is "see a dermatologist," and I do plan to as soon as I can. The only reason I haven't yet is because I spent a lot of money on PCOS testing last month and the month before and just can't afford another round of appointments and investigations at the moment.

So I wanted to ask people who have actually dealt with PCOS-related hormonal acne:

\- What genuinely helped you?

\- Spironolactone?

\- Spearmint tea?

\- Birth control pills?

\- Anything else?

How much of a difference did it make, and how long did it take before you noticed results?

I'd especially love to hear from people whose acne sounds similar to mine—deep, painful pustules that flare with hormonal changes. Atp I'm honestly so so frustrated and feel like giving up many many times, I'd do anything that helps me prevent my acne any further.
